Draw! Fairly mild in Donetsk tonight so Chelsea lucky enough with timing of group game.

Going to be a tough game, Shakhtar have been tradionally strong at home in the UCL.

I'd take a draw but would love a win going into the game against Man Utd Sunday.

Talks of JT playing tonight, I personally hope he doesn't play, Cahill & Luiz need to get another 90 minutes under their belts before Utd and this will be a tough test.

    Terry is captain tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

I'd rest Luiz so if JT's playing.

Luiz played with Brazil during the international break and did a bit of travelling so missing tonight should make sure hes 100% for Sunday.

    Cech
    Ivan Cahill JT Cole
    Mikel Ramires
    Mata Oscar Hazard
    Torres

Didn't realise quite how strong Shaktars form has been, only game they haven't won this season is away draw in Turin, 15 games 14 wins is formidable!

    Still think draw though!

Gonna be a though game but with DiMatteo talking a fighting talk away from home in all our games should be a good game. I think if we respect Shaktar too much then can punish us simular to Juve but we should be going there looking for 3 points IMO.

Man for man we have a better squad and we should beat them. IOl take a draw but we should be looking for the win, with or without their unbeaten record!

If they win this game they'll blow the group wide open.

    Currently its :

    Chelsea 4pts
    Shakhtar 4pts
    Juventus 2Pts
    Nords 0Pts

Juventus are playing Nords home and away so they should get 6 points putting them on 8 points from 4. I hope we can get 4 points from our double hearder with Shakhtar Putting us on 8 points.

So after 4 games the group could na dprobably will look like :

    Chelsea 8pts
    Juventus 8pts
    Shakhtar 5pts
    Nords 0pts

We then have to play Nords at home and Juventus away, hoping to pick up at least 3 points which should see us through.

Juventus have to play us at home and Shakhtar away and the away game in Shakhtar could decide who goes through.

Very interesting group so far. :)

Yeah could go down to the wire, Juve might have to play Shaktar I'm subartic conditions which could be a tipping point in the Ukrainians favour.

Shakthar will need to take at least a point from tonights game with us, anything less and they'll be out IMO.

They're more then capable of taking all 3 as we didnt play well away to Nords in our last away UCL game so this will be a huge test.

Agreed on the shakhtar v Juventus game, that could easily be a winner take all game.

As a United fan, even I'm tempted to watch this game. Great piece on one of Shakhtar's key players here by Jonathan Wilson if anyone is interested...

best time to concede really .....

plenty of time to get back into this ..

If we keep allowing the time and space that we are currently allowing Shaktar to have it'll only end up with one result, a Home win, regardless of how much time is left on the clock. :(

Chelsea yet to show anything really attacking wise. I fear a quick breakaway when we do too.

Utd behind after 2 mins and Celtic have just taken the lead against Barca!

    Night of shocks?

Is there another reason why I dislike this ref other than his home bias so far tonight? Or am I imagining things?

Would really prefer to see danny on instead of torres in this game, we need someone who gets into goal scoring positions and not someone who only wants to get involved in the build ups (torres).

Where do they get these spanners from?
Nigel Spackman, former Chelsea midfielder in Ukraine for BBC Radio 5 live
"I watched the teams warming up before kick-off and Shakhtar really had the bit between their teeth. This is probably the biggest game in their history tonight, hosting the Champions League champions."

This is the same Shakhtar Donetsk who won the UEFA cup in 2009.

Torres is like a woman you meet on a night out who you think is stunning with a class body (bear with me :pac:) you bring her home only to find out she has a corset on and has chicken fillets in!

All glitz and glimmer, lovely to look at initially but when it comes down to the business end you find out they ain't got the good's!

We need to retain possession, pass better and torres get yer finger out!

Reckon RDM will throw Bertrand on soon to keep the ball
