What gets you through assignments?

So, as the title says, how do you get yourself through assignments?

I'm stuck with three to do this week, and as you can see I'm doing my best to procrastinate as much as possible! :D
What I find helps me normally is to just stick a youtube playlist on (always youtube and not itunes for some reason) with the most ridiculous mix of songs, most of which I would never listen to normally! At the moment I have The Script, Nicki Minaj, Flo Rida, One Direction, The Wanted. T.a.T.u., Jedward, My Chemical Romance (of course!), 30 Seconds to Mars, Taio Cruz, Jason Derulo, David Guetta, etc.
I don't know what it is but I seem to get slightly less distracted and get a little more done with that.

Anyone else have some 'different' ways of getting assignments done?

as of the concentration malarkey, cant help you there cause i have the concentration of a flipflop but just when you get going and finally work up the strength and bravery to do something, try listening to some classical music (i know sounds gay as christmas) instead of all that **** and i do mean **** you've been listening too. recent studies have shown that too much one direction and flo rider makes your brain get raped by a turtle - hardly what you need when you need to get stuff done. (www.your/a/sac.com) And i find the classical music is perfect for shutting your stupid brain the **** up and kinda eases into the backround to soothing undistractive noise. im exstreamilng intoxiated ridgt now not even spell check can save me :(

Funny thing is, I love classical music and hate most of the stuff on my list normally - genuinely! but I seem to need to listen to pure shi*e that I hate when working on assignments! Maybe it's a need to get it done so I can stop listening! :D

Yo!! I'm currently working on a 5,000 word assignment due Friday and I have a few study/writing essentials I always use!

Music: generally doesn't matter, usually based on how bad my head is or may get (I get migraine a lot, particularly now!!)

Food: Constant supply of food, I get cranky and distracted if I'm hungry, so I eat before I start and have stuff I can snack on. I keep a pot of sesame seeds close at hand. Right now, I have a banana sambo, bag of crisps, go ahead yoghurt bar, teeny tiny mars bar and 2 toffee pops. That will keep me nibbling until dinner later.

Drinks: As I mentioned before, migraine is the devil so I drink loads, eg I have tea, glass of lemon and a glass of water all near me.

Warm: I sit with a blanket around me alá Peg cos I can't concentrate if I'm cold.

Post-it Note target on my laptop helps too! :)
    That's what works for me!

Cant beat the heating on, with a bag of bombay mix and a pre-prepared youtube/itunes playlist then just plough through it.
The easiest time to do it is just when I get home or stay in the library and do it.

I cannot listen to music at the same time as doing assignments so I need silence, or as close to it as I can get.

A bottle/glass of ice cold water for me to drink throughout. This is in case I start to get bored, the coldness snaps me back to reality! I think.

I give myself little goals - get to 500 words and I can have a 10 minute break to aimlessly browse the internet etc. This is if I find whatever I'm doing particularly tedious! I need the motivation of breaks to get me through! :pac:

When I was at NUIM, my simple answer - coffee and a strong will to get the damn thing finished! :)

One time, I just went to my room and 3 hours later I was done an essay, surprisingly it was one of the best philosophy essays I ever wrote while at university!

Usually, I read for about 2 weeks and then in the last few days or so wrote the thing up and cited it.

The sight of the deadline, at least that's what it has been for the past two years. Between now and Christmas I have...

    - a 2,000 word research proposal
    - a questionnaire to be designed, distributed 20+ people and a report written on the findings
    - a 3,000 word lit review
    - 6 x 2000 word essays

I don't think my old methods of getting through assignments are going to cut it.

I can't listen to music, way too distracting for me

I usually lock myself away or set up camp in the Arts Block PACR

Also, an IV drip of Bewley's hot chocolate would be immensely helpful too

It's really good to see other peoples' approach to assignments because I never know how to approach them. I just let them get to me and as a result I feel completely like shít and stressed out to the max. I know I'm only starting off and all that but they really do get to me.
    But ya, good thread! :)

    This is normally the song that goes through my head the night before an assignment is due;

Generally I make myself work on essays when I have plans for later in the day.

For example, I'm in work in a few hours; so I set myself a goal to write 500 words before I have to go to work. If I don't get 500 written by the time I have to go to work, then I have to do it when I get home (which wont be until very late tonight and I'll be exhausted).

It pushes me to get this bit done now so that I can relax when I need to later.I do little bits of essays every day but the biggest chunks get written all in one go with no breaks because I set these kinds of goals.

The largest amounts get done when I have social plans. Like if I have a cinema trip planned for the evening, I can write upwards of 2,000 words in a few hours because I'm motivated by the desire to have a huge amount of it out of the way so it's not on my mind when I'm enjoying free-time with friends.

I used to reward myself every like 45 mins with a short funny video(usually stand up or some parody thing) on youtube, while the eurovision was brought up

I'm currently rewarding each hour of work with one chapter of Game of Thrones 5. When I run out of Game of Thrones I'll be switching to the sequel to The Passage.

I finally figured it out. All I need to do my assignments are few cups of strong coffee, close deadline and lots of energy drinks (preferably Red Thunder from Aldi) :D
