    Ascot

    1.45

Opinion Poll correct favourite and hard to see anything beating him, even if Fame And Glory comes back to something like his best. Ile De Re, while I like the horse and think he's talented (I backed him in the Chester Cup) I think 7/1 is a ridiculous price at this stage. Sure he will like conditions but he beat Icon Dream and Crackentorp in the Northumberland plate ffs. Against Opinion Poll at 3/1 that's an insulting price. Bet of the race is Aiken to step up again with much more class than Ile De Re and more potential. Saver on Opinion Poll.

    2.20

Another one the bookies have got right with Society Rock but he is tough to get right. Not even his trainer expected the win at Haydock. He loves it at Ascot though. Slade Power is interesting but the bare form of beating Arctic getting weight just isn't doing it for me. Restidargent is a dark horse for me. Great run in the Diamond Jubilee (didn't even notice that until it was mentioned by a pundit) and I always respect Ascot form. The Cheka had Society Rock and Ortensia beaten on heavy in the July Cup so probably is the value. I still think Society Rock will win and Wizz Kid deserves a solid mention going so well last year against Deacon Blues but I see her as a 5f horse. Society Rock to win but don't rule out The Cheka at 20s

    2.55

I don't often pay a lot of attention to the f&m so I'm not very confident of picking anything like the winner here. Interesting that there is no support for Testosterone. She isn't a bad horse on form and with Frankie on board shouldn't be a no hoper. Foolish to ignore Great Heavens but her Arc run must've taken something out of her - or maybe sharpened her up? Not for me at 11/4 though. Is Sapphire that obvious that I'm suspicious? Short enough but has the credentials. Dancing Rain would be hard to have confidence in on her first run on this ground. Sapphire to win.

    3.30

Excelebration will win this. Cityscape is a good horse and so is Elusive Kate but Excelebration is a step above them. If he reuns to form he has them covered. Just looking back to the race in France confirms that and the ground should hold no fears for him. Not interested in odds on though.

    4.05

Same as the previous race - Frankel will win but Cirrus Des Aigles is an escellent horse. It would take a real poor performance for Frankel to succumb to Cirrus but stanger things have happened. If nothing else, this will give Frankel an opportunity to raise his rating above that of Dancing Brave. The on we're all looking forward to!

    4.45

I have a feeling I'm going to blow some more money on Atlantic Sport today...

This horse deserves a big pot and he ran very well at the Royal meeting in June, gonna throw a few bob on him and watch another horse Highland Colori. Looks like a combination of 7f and soft ground might see him eek out that bit more to get his head in front. Misplaced Fortune has good form on soft and despite his age should go well at a massive price but might just run out of steam at the end. Atlantic Sport and Higland Colori thanks and good luck!

I agree regarding Aiken being the bet of the race in the Long Distance, though I'm not convinced about the way he finishes his races.

One I like today is Handy Andy in the extended two and a half mile handicap hurdle at Cheltenham. Finally came good after a promising debut last season over course and distance. Last run from a break was too bad to be true and is interesting at 20/1

Frankel can now be backed at 100/30 on. Beats the 1/10 a few weeks ago ante post

Byrnes' mob are going for it in the 1st at Cheltenham

Great Heavens now out to 4/1 i'd definitely be backing her at that price, thought she ran a cracker in The Arc it just depends on how much that has taken out of her. Weld's horse Sapphire now 11/4

First time Our Vinnie has ground he likes. Connections will be very disappointed if this horse is not at least placed. Still an E/W bet.

Looks a seriously solid each way bet. 1.9 to lay for a place on Betfair

Had a nice bet on La Pomme D'Amour @ 9/1 in the Fillies and Mares race. A very underestimated filly. She flopped in Shareta's Vermille but had comfortably beaten the third placed Solemia in her previous run and had just failed against Pirika the second in the Vermille on the run before that after getting blocked in her run. It's as good form as anything in the race and the French are very good at winning these late season races. I see Dancing Rain as the main danger, Great Heavens has a great chance but she's a worrying drifter.

I'm nearly as excited as I am in March today. (Heresy?)

Frankels opponent Cirrus des Aigles makes this the most important race of the year. It's like the Cheltenham Gold Cup for me. Everythings come together today and I can't think of anything more dramatic than Cirrus winning. It's going to be a horrible time afterwards with everyone mourning Frankels record and Cirrus will be more or less ignored. Of course, it will be Frankels picture on the sport pages regardless of who wins.

I don't care who wins - I want an exciting race. I would hate to see Frankel win by more than two lengths.

    ASCOT

    1:45 RITE OF PASSAGE 15/2

2:20 JIMMY STYLES 25/1 (big price if takes to the soft, which I think will happen)

    2:55 VOW 16/1

    3:30 ELUSIVE KATE 6/1

    4:05 PASTORIUS 40/1

    4:45 AXIOM 14/1

    Long Shot Saturday
    3:40 Cheltenham

Exmoor Ranger sticks out for me as being overpriced in this race. He is proven of this mark has pleny of very good course form and has an excellent record fresh, so today may be the best time to have a bet at a decent price on this substandard renewal of this race. His jumping can be poor enough but whenever he does stay up he is generally very competitive and had a few very decent runs last year including 3rd in the Fluke Walwyn at the festival of this mark. 29 win on Betfair looks a good few points too big.
I’m also going to have a small saver on Knockara Beau as well, as on his day he is well capable of running a big race here given his course form, and I’d be jacking myself if he wins this of a big looking 20/1 without having a small bet.

1 Point win Exmoor Ranger 29 Betfair

½ Point win Knockara Beau 23 Betfair

    2:30 Cheltenham

Gilbarry has been a very disappointing horse since his novice days and as a result is down to a career low chasing mark of 130, which if he can recover some sparkle might just give him a small chance at a big price in this competitive looking race. He is still a young horse with hopefully plenty of potential and has won before on season reappearance. 40 on Betfair is well worth what is possibly a risky bet.

    1 Point win Gilbarry 40
    1:45 Ascot

Rite Of Passage has a lot to do on the face of it with so little racing since his gold cup win but, he is sure to go on the ground and his trainer is well capable of getting him ready for this with no prep run. His Gold cup win was one of the better ones in recent years and 9/1 in a few places looks a bit of value

    1 Point win 9/1 Various

    2:50 Catterick

Shoshoni Wind has proven form on soft ground, is well capable of running of a mark of 90 and has blinkers on and Philip Makin back on today. That’s enough signs for me to have a small bet in case she is going to get back to form here. 33/1 in a few places looks value

    1 Point win 33/1 Bet365/Coral/ Boyles

Oh Jesus! Doesn't god know how poor i am? He's taking the piss.

    Well done Rite Of Passage.

Ile De Re was a ridiculous price.

Dermot Weld can train anything. I'm more confident of Galileos Choice after seeing that. That was a Melbourne Cup missed. He would have won it easily

I want Frankel to thrash them and put to bed any doubts about his rating.

Our Vinnie's jumping was very poor. Cost him the race.

    2:55 Ascot

I’m going to have a small min bet of Vow here, as there is not a lot between the fillies herea dn although she was poor at Ascot and had a break, if her last run has put her right she is too big a price here at 20/1 . Has a little bit of form on soft.

    ½ Point win 20/1 VCbet

But who cares about his rating in fairness. We all know how good he is. Mick Channon put it best when asked if he was the best of all time he said, "... if he had won over 1 and a half miles I'd say yes ..."

When they get that good a pound rating either way doesn't matter. He's not going to be running against Sea Bird and Mill Reef in a G1 Handicap. I want to see him do something different, overcome a challenge.

Wizz Kid here for me :)

Not sure the fav will handle the ground. Maarek a danger if you discount his last run..

Didn't have a penny on but absolutely ****ing delighted Maarek won! Chuffed is an understatement!

The Cheka did too much in front and did well to keep on.

Maarek is an unbelievable horse. He's been fairly treated by the weather this summer and given the chance to show his ability. I never considered him until rossom started talking him up. He'll have gone up 30lbs this year. He's won an absolute truck load of money for connections this year. Fair dues.

Bit of aftertimeing - had Maarek but was hoping Hawkeyethenoo would catch him. The scattergun approach for big fields managed to work for once despite not making a major profit.

Might go for Shirocco Star in the next. Between that and Great Heavens.

great heavens for me in 2.55

if i hadent done great heaven id be on was

Not having a bet but Dancing Rain is a filly I really like in general. Tough front runners are always likeable

Edit she is an absolutely lovely looker too

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

Great Heavens far stronger now. Challenging for favouritism on the machine

I backed it each way at 4/1

I'd take it on too, I'd like to see Cityscape finally land a domestic group 1 but suspicions are he might be a wee bit below that level

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,368 ✭✭✭naughto

    Chicago Grey 3.40 cheltenham

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭rossom

I think Excelebration looks absolutely nailed on to land this. Beat Cityscape when taking Frankel on and barring his debut the only horse that has ever beaten him has been that machine.

Evens a good price if you think he's nailed on. No bet for me
