Match Stream Requests - Important PLEASE READ FIRST POST

    All,

As you maybe aware, due to a new law it is now illegal for anyone to publicly display information on how to by-pass Copyright or Encryption protection, match streams "could" fall under that category so it is illegal to post links or information on how to get access to games without paying for it, this is why we currently delete any requests/links/information that are posted.

In the GAA forum we have trialled a system where if someone is looking for a stream they post in a specific thread requesting that someone PMs them a link, Mods/The Public do not have access to your PMs so we don't know if anyone has shared information with you so we don't know if you are breaching the law or not, this system seems to be working at the moment so after discussing it with the other mods here we've decided to trial it here as well.

If you are in Ireland you will be able to view Rabo Direct matches on whatever channel is showing it, RTE or TG4 or AerTV or S4C

    Rules
DO NOT POST a link to any stream in this thread or any other thread, if you do you will be banned until after the game you have shared the link do.
DO NOT POST links that carry a charge, most pay channels have a direct pay option, this is the only pay option that will be available through here.
BE CIVIL, people are sharing information on how to save you money/time, if you ungrateful you will be banned.
BE PATIENT, most streaming sites only show what's being shown shortly before the game, don't go looking for a link weeks/days in advance, you will be better off closer to kick off.
This is the ONLY thread for stream requests, any threads started will be deleted.
When you have received a working link edit your post stating you are now sorted DO NOT post a new post saying your a sorted.

This is just a trial for now and maybe taken down at any time, I would suggest that if you do get a link of someone that you save it for possible further use. This thread is also being reviewed by the Admins/Owners so be nice, big brother is watching :)

I can't really remember if it really happened or if I was dreaming but I may possibly, unbeknownst to myself, shared that kind of information inadvertently via PM the day of the hurling final, or thereabouts ;). I remember waking up thinking "that went well, better than the last time I was in Kansas :p", that time I was following a strange road........to.......somewhere.........:D

Wow this is amazing. While I have no issue finding streams myself, its always nice to help others out. I would have expected a blanket ban rather than common sense being used. Well done

We don't like blanket bans or putting things in stone, but unforunately not all users can abide by these rules so that's why we have to seem a bit "harsh", always remember that Mods are just normal users who agree to help out, we normally have a big interest in the forums we mod and have a long posting history in them, being a mod isn't cause we want to have more work to do, but cause we just want to help out.

Please don't forget that this is just a trial and depending on how it goes it may be implemented across the site, please please please don't ruin it by having it descend into any kind of off topic discussion or posting of illegal links, that'll just ruin it for everyone and will leave us with no choice but to delete it and ban people.

This is a good point, many streams are fixed to a particularly channel so you only need to bookmark them once.

Would it be possible to mention websites by name without the link say for instance; search "boards" instead of boards.ie or boards.ie or is that a no go?

No, I think PMs only for now. That works for everyone as it stands.

I'm not a solicitor but I do have a massive interest in everything IT related, uber geek in other words, I believe that the legislation says that you can't host information publicly that can be used to bypass copyright/encryption, so telling someone to google "illegal site name" could be seen as sharing information, so please just keep it to PM.

I presume publicly pointing someone to the RTE player is legit?

Legit players are fine to point out, but I think we'll keep those to the match threads, this thread is just for people looking for specific match threads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,300 ✭✭✭freyners

any argument for stickying this so people will see it when they come on? might stop stream requests cropping up over match threads

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 24,028 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

Too many stickies mess up the mobile version of the site so we try to keep those to a minimum, hopefully this thread will be a "self bumping" thread so it won't need sticking while it's in trial, if the trial is successful we can review stickyness requirement

hey clareman - not being in any way confrontational, but which new law is that? I looked into this a while back and came away with the impression that a link is fine, but if you're hosting it, it's illegal. hence why sites like firstrow etc. all say they are not hosting the feeds. I thought it was illegal in the US (hence why theres a big homeland security banner on their us site) but legal in Europe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,681 ✭✭✭✭P_1

    Great idea lads.

Think it was sherlocks law that brought this up wasn't it?

It's the Sean Sherlock SI introduced earlier this year

Ok folks, Ulster Glasgow up first tonight, this is the only thread to post in if you are looking for a stream for any games, just post "Can someone PM me a link to the xxxx Vs. xxxx Game please" or something like that and we'll see how it goes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 164 ✭✭Legits

    PM for ulster Glasgow please

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

A good idea would be for people to edit their posts to say "sorted - thanks" when they have received a working stream to avoid people sending needless PMs. It also means they don't receive mails they don't need.

Could the thread be stickied for a while at least? Just to get exposure initially and then it will be more likely to become "self bumping"
