New Trailer Regulations

Saw this ad from the RSA in one of the papers about the trailer regulations coming into force at the end of the month. Basically what it boils down to is if you buy a new trailer after this month it will not be road legal unless it's EU type approved and you get an official Certificate of Conformity. It will also be illegal to sell a trailer without one of these and according to the RSA there's some fairly hefty fines if caught.
While it doesn't (yet) cover trailers already on the road, it's the first step towards trailer registration and roadworthyness tests. Anyone who tows regularly knows the guards have become a lot more eagle eyed and savvy about trailers recently so expect a bit of extra attention from them once this comes into force. Cover your arse lads and don't give them an excuse to pull you over for a proper check.
