Just got an email from the fees office there that they have kindly disabled all my logins temporarily until I "settle my account". Has anybody else received a mail like this? I am a part-time student doing the M. Eng course, it's a continuous course so you can start it in either September or February each year, I started in February this year and so this is technically my second semester. I didn't get any request to pay fees when I registered for this semester, so now have to take time off work tomorrow morning to go over to fees office and sort this out

I got the same mail. I'm a regular undergrad but this is my first year getting a grant and despite the fact that I went into the fees office with the grant letter and told it was all sorted, just pay the 35e or whatever it was etc. etc., I'm now being told that I haven't paid my fees.

I too will be making a trip to the fees office tomorrow. An absolute pain in the arse.

If you're working, you could just try ringing them? Their contact details are here: http://www.dcu.ie/finance/fees/index.shtml

Just got the same thing as well which means I can't book my robes for graduation. I'm meant to be graduating in November, ffs! Why would they think I need to pay the registration fee?!

I've already had to take half a day off work to visit registry to figure out why I was getting emails telling me that I was a repeat student despite having passed everything. I am getting so sick of having to run around after these people to get them to fix the numerous mistakes they've made with regards to my accounts over the last few years.

The first thing you learn in DCU, all those offices are badly run. They are not good at their jobs, at all. There is always some kind of problem.

Got the same Email, paid my fees when I registered, showed them receipts to get my student card. I'll be talking to them in the Fees office too tomorrow, I imagine the queue will be out the door!

Cheers lads, seems like I will be in good company tomorrow so, don't feel too bad now. Only thing is, in the meantime, I can't get into moodle so can't do any of my studies remotely

I'm not alone so :) i'll be there in the morning myself. I've applied for a grant but have paid the first installment of the registration fees myself although i'll be showing them a copy of the letter from susi as proof of application in the morning. The only other reason I they could have blocked my account was for the student services fee of 38 sheets but as far as I'm aware thats included in the registration fees... bastards :( they should have told me this when they printed my student card.

The 38 euro isn't included in the reg fee. Once it's been confirmed that you'll be getting a grant then you have to pay the 38 euro, people who don't get the grant just pay the reg fee with no additional 38 euro.

Had to go to registry last week and there was a long enough queue, hopefully it'll be a bit quieter this week!

Got it sorted this morning but there was a nice queue of people outside the fees office this morning before it opened, I'd say they are in for a busy day.

I got the same awesomeness. no moodle/email/internet acess.
Physics Lab was pretty hard without notes.

I showed them my SUSI letter, I paid the 38 euro and got my student card.

All of this red tape is making me miss SO MUCH UNI.

SUSI requesting every peice of paper in existance which i have to keep collecting. Still waiting on a birth cert from Australia. Surely my Guarda stamped passport copy is proof that I exist?

That is wrong. Everybody pays the €38 regardless of whether they get the grant or not.

    That's very smart of you.
I am guessing you are studying a B.A. Most likely in business or languages.

Want me to work out an equation of your likelihood of employment over your course graduation rates?

    Lets say:

    X = Jobs going.
    Y= Students in DCU alone.
A= The jobs you can get with your qualification.

I look forward to ordering my books from you in Waterstones next year.

    Do the math. :)

I was just onto the fees office in relation to my blocked account. They have informed me that I have to pay 2860 to get my account unblocked, this includes the late registration fee :(

I have no way of getting this amount and so have no access to anything until I hear from SUSI.

So annoyed with the whole SUSI situation. I got the FCA email on the 21st of September and sent it off on the same day..

    Grrrrrrrrrrrr

My son is still waiting for his grant confirmation letter and is stranded up in Dublin with no money. He's been told he has to pay a late registration fee of €170 instead of €38 because he hasn't had the money to pay for anything. A big thanks to the local authority for dragging their feet and an even bigger thank you to the staff of DCU registry for their complete lack of sympathy and refusal to back down. Well done, rich boys' college

Well, it looks to me that it's the students without means that are being targeted, my own family included. I assume all the well off ones have paid, so basically if you're not from a financially stable family and have already paid you can cough up more of your paltry means to reigister with DCU. Thoughtful.

I paid my fees myself, and I wouldn't consider myself well off. I think the administrative staff are just terrible across the board (as many others have already said), I don't think it's a conspiracy against students on grants.

If it's any consolation they're not as bad as NUIG. My point is that there are people who can't pay fees out of their own pockets, that's why they're given maintenance grants, which don't get processed on time so the students are kept waiting. The college has then penalised these students, who cannot pay through no fault of their own. Well done for paying your fees, but if you're in receipt of the maintence grant it was your local authority's job to do that.

Ahh yes nothing has changed in DCU then. I graduted in 1994 and had the same problem re Fees. Got a letter week before Grad that I couldn't Graduate unless I paid fees my final half of final year even though the fees had been paid in March. Had to take a day off work to sort.

Great to see it is still happening 18 years later.

Yes that's right .. The college where you 're penalised when your grant authority cocks up.

That doesn't justify it being the 'rich boys college' sure in Maynooth we call it 'The poor man's UCD'

    'The poor man's UCD'

Thats wrong. UCD is DCU for dyslexics :-) (Yes I know thats a bit insensitive of me)

Sorry about my comment. Iv'e had a bad 5 weeks.
I have had to miss so much of Uni due to red tape and bafoonery I kind of lost it.
I got an eviction letter the same day. Its very hard to go back to Uni when you are independent and older I have now found out.

I find it very ****e of DCU to cut off students moodle accounts that dont have the money waiting on grants.
There is basically no point in me even going in. I cant get the notes or the assignments. OR hand them in.

So I am fighting to stay in Uni but spending time away from Uni to stay in Uni.

    It's a bag of balls.

After a good start to the year, I get the feeling this course is going to turn out like my first, especially as I've now been cut off for the past two weeks since no-one here can afford to pay the money while I wait on SUSI...

No access to Moodle means I can't check my notes or assignments, no access to eduroam forces me to rely on my old login, and no access to my e-mail means I can't communicate with anyone and can't check in on the status of my group assignments or even to double-check how much that I owe the fees office because it's in an e-mail inside my locked out account

Oh, and the final blow - being unable to access my portal page means I wouldn't be able to pay the fees online if I were somehow able to get the money!

How's things going antkeane? I still have no access.. I have also been missing classes due to no access. I am thinking of dropping out at this stage as SUSI are now looking for more documentation which means ill probably be another month at least waiting for grant approval. Its a joke.

I missed most of last week. And today. (my own fault today tbh, for once!).

I got my moodle re-instated. I enquired at the fee's office today for the sake of all you guys with this issue.

It turns out, probably most of you are mature students and/or international students and you didn't hand in the previous education form to the fee office.
Get the form filled in and they will reinstate your account.

Now I have damn late library fees. Things looking up though.
I am so far behind. F@%k.

This email was sent out to first years today.

    "Dear Students,

SUSI Applicants – First Year Students

DCU is very aware of the delays in the processing of grant applications this academic year and realise the pressure that this is putting on students. In order to minimise the disturbance to your studies, the University will not be penalising any student who has paid their €38 and provided confirmation of their grant application to the Fees Office. Your access to all facilities (including Moodle, library etc.) will remain open until February 1st 2013. We hope that, at that point, your grant applications will have come through.

In order to ensure that your application is processed as quickly as possible, please ensure that all correspondence from SUSI is followed up by you immediately.
Once / if your application is approved by SUSI, both you and the Fees Office at DCU will receive notification of this.
We do hope that this helps you continue your studies with us here at DCU.

Wishing you the very best with your assignments over the coming weeks
    With kind regards
    Claire

    Dr. Claire Bohan
Director of Student Support & Development
    Dublin City University"
