Coors light, (muck) has far fewer calories than Heineken.

But TBH, it's not a beer gut, it's from a lack of eating right and working out, one intake of that amount of beer a week isn't giving you a gut, it's the rest of your lifestyle. I'd go as far as to say you don't technically need to change your drinking habits. Just your eating and workout habits.

If you're the type to go for deliciously greasy amazing food after a feed of beer, maybe leave that out.

But overall, it's not (just) the beer giving you a gut.

Changing the alcoholic drink you consume on a Saturday night is going to do next to nothing to the size of your gut. Especially by christmas.

Cutting out the crap from your diet and ensuring you drink enough water, along with some moderate exercise is your best chance of success. Let us know if you're willing to do that much and if you are, give details of what you would typically eat in a day so we know where to start.

    Ok, here goes :)

Usually get about 6 hours kip a night

Wake up 7am, coffee and 3 slices of wholegrain brown bread with full fat Dairygold butter and a banana

    Another coffee about 10am

11am some crambled egg on 2 slices of brown whole grain bread (never take salt with anything)

1/2pm some sausage rolls from deli and a mars bar

    3pm coffee and a banana

4.30/5.pm dinner (usually speghetti bolognese/irish stew/oven baked cod n oven chips)

7pm more wholegrain brown bread and butter (addicted!) and banana, maybe 2 petit filous kids yoghurts

8pm corn flakes n full fat milk

    10pm bed

I would eat take away maybe once every 3 weeks, usually only drink once a week and drink maybe 4 or 5 litres of water a day.

I get zero exercise however save for walking to the bus stop to college and to work (work in a bar)

    Hope this helps :)

Yikes, that's a lot of processed food, carbs and bread. Belly food, so to speak.
Can you cut out the amount of bread you eat at least? Have an omlete for breakfast, a hearty salad with smoked salmon for lunch, maybe a steak, mixed veg and sweet potatoes for dinner?
Also, you seeem to eat a lot between meals, is there a reason for this?

Thank you so much for your reply :)

The thing with the snacking in between meals is, I work 6 nights a week,, so am at home during the day and through boredom I tend to nibble, a slice of bread here, a yoghurt there cos I seem to ALWAYS feel hungry, except when I'm in work.

As I said, I drink a ridiculous amount of water and don't drink alcohol/eat fast food that much.

Is there anything I can do exercise wise?

Have cut the daily chocolate bar and occasional popcorn/crisps out

Oh it's very easy to do, grazing when bored, I used to be a holy terror at it. I think a lot of it could be habit ( or certainly it was with me), and also the type of food you eat. It might be difficult at first, but if you could cut the bread out it would help hugely. Add more protein to your diet, it keeps you fuller longer. Cottage cheese, lean meats, chicken, fish, seafood that sort of thing, bulk up your meals with lots of veg, roasted peppers and so on. If you pepare your food in advance it helps cut out a lot of the snacking I find. Boil up a few eggs and have them handy; better than a slice of bread.

Exercise wise, you can start walking more, jogging, you can start doing body weights at home, squats, burpees, push-ups, lots of stuff really, if you're free during the day perhaps there is a swimming pool near you? If you have a bike, you could start cycling more. You know, get moving.

Habitual snacking is a tough one to break. The only thing that worked for me was having an approximate eating schedule. Planning out your meals a few days before helps you stick to any changes you make.

As said, cut out as much bread as possible. I'd recommend cutting it out completely, but there's a line that has to be drawn somewhere between being realistic and idealistic. If you can cut down the consumption of any grain food to one serving a day, that's a massive improvement already. The hardest thing would be finding something to replace the bread you eat to prevent you falling back into the habit. Even replacing a typical bread meal with rice cakes is an improvement,

As mentioned before, boiled eggs are a great snack that are both healthy and keep you full. Try snacking on nuts, preferably unsalted. If you have a sweet tooth, you could try replacing chocolate cravings with a handful of raisins, or some other sweet fruit.

Also, give green tea a try. It's a bit of an acquired taste but drinking it 2-4 times a day is a healthy way of passively increasing your metabolism, among other healthy benefits.

As for exercise; you don't need to join a gym to get the results you want, but aside from the exercises I mentioned, the easiest (if you have the time) is an hour walk 2-3 times a week. Just stick on your mp3 player, walk somewhere and if you arrive back an hour later panting and in a sweat, you've done good.
