No obvious captain choice for me.

Cazorla, Ba, RVP, Hazard, Nolan, Michu, etc... all good choices.

    Pot luck this week IMO.

    Such as... Tevez/Aguero etc?

Can't have 20 choices each week, I reckon the above are the top 10.

Difficult week to pick alright, I've gone on a gamble of Sahin home to Reading.

Definitely a gamble! Great differential though.

Goin with Cazorla... RVP is probably the safer bet probably even Ba but need to have a bit of a differential to start moving me up the ranks! Hopefully it pays off!

Perhaps I should have just included all 600 Premiership players, just so as not to miss anyone out?

    Cazorla or maybe Jelavic IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

Sunderland v Newcastle is a big derby so I'd expect goals. And Ba and Fletcher will surely be central to everything, definitely worth a punt.

Same goes for Chelsea v Tottenham.

RVP could easily come out with 2 points, Stoke have been strong defensively so far. Same goes with Cazorla, Norwich haven't been great but a home game against Arsenal will definitely see them lift their game.

If RVP and Cazorla (the two captaincy favourites) both fail and get 2 points we could see big payoffs for those who gamble this week.

the last three tyne-wear derbies have only produced a total of five goals - although the game before produced 6... all the same i'll be keeping away from Ba and Fletch for the (c), i have a feeling it could be a tight low-scoring game. If anything i think the Spurs-Chelsea game could produce alot of goals, but that's a no-runner for me, as i have no players from either. Man Utd have scored 2 or more in all of the last 5 meetings with Stoke, so i'm going with RVP. Stoke often up there game against some of the better teams, but i've never seen that against Utd, if anything i think they have a bit of an inferiority complex against Fergies men. Cazorla will be my (v), but as already pointed out, there's many potentially good choices for the armband this week. Which of course could also be bad :)

Begovic is in some form this season though. Saw his games against ManC and Chelsea?

Nope. But i wouldn't place too much importance on it. United are usually pretty ruthless in front of goal with their chances, regardless of the goalie in front of them. I think with Rooney back and starting to look fit and on form again, and RVP, it will be a long day for Stoke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

    I echo manual_mans thoughts.

Sunderland v Newcastle and Spurs v Chelsea have been low scoring fixtures over the past few years with an average of 2 goals per game and usually end up being even games.

I'd predict a score of 1-1 in both those games.

United versus Stoke on the other hand has been more favourable in terms of goals over the years.

    Van Persie (c)
    Berbatov (vc)

Delighted to hear that we're reaching the stage of the season where people are starting to look at "captain differentials" in an attempt to claw back some ground.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

    Suarez for me.

Stoke notoriously hard to break down so no real surprise LFC couldnt score but were unlucky at times too.

Can really see them run riot this weekend.

Someone mentioned Gervinho above, thats a good shout too imo.

Martin seems to be helpful with the injury updates come the Friday Press Conference.

If he's fit to play, we should know well in advance of the Saturday deadline.

im pretty sure the moment i get in torres he wont score for 3/4 games.
hazzard still in my team but not for much longer. i dont have the funds for there defenders who dont look like keeping a clean sheet.

Also Nolan shouldn't be overlooked. Definite risk as captain but definitely a wild card.

3 goals and an assist and he's against the weakest in the league. At home.

Well said. I honestly think regular posters should have their position last season or points total in their sig so people know the actual history of those giving advice.

Absolute rubbish. Judge posts on their own merit. If you really need to justify taking someones advice then PM them and ask for their league position. I did well last year and am on a good run this year again but don't feel the need to have an online dick swinging contest to encourage people to take my advice.

Anyone that wants to know league positions keep an eye on this thread - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056774253

There's certain posters who's advice I will pay close attention to because they have been proven right more than wrong, but I wouldn't have a clue about their league positions.

What's absolute rubbish about asking people for their pedigree in the game? Would you find it absolute rubbish to read someone's qualifications re a subject before you read their opinion on it?

If someone has performed well in the past, I generally expect them to do well again.

Those of us who post regularly know the past of other users on here. There are plenty of people though who log on once a week to get a quick bit of advice and I think it'd help them to distinguish between those who know their stuff and those who don't know their arse from their elbow.

Re the current league positions being on a thread: I've said it a number of times. I'm more interested in where someone was after GW38 last season than where they are after GW8 this season.

/edit: and I'd suggest this conversation is moved to general chat if you wish to reply as this is the captaincy thread that is being dragged off topic.

It doesn't have to be a dick swinging contest though. And if that's how you perceive it to be does it not mean that the league positions thread is one giant dick swinging contest?

I'd very much welcome the details you mentioned above being in your signature and even better would be a link to your team (look at mine, I'm great).

This forum has come a long way within its very short lifetime. It's become much more valuable a resource over the course of a few months than I expected to be.

Adding a basic level of validation to contributors posts would be another step in the right direction imo.

Personally i think current league position isn't very relevant - I'm much more interested in previous seasons and when someone who consistently does well each year i pay more attention to their advice on here. Doesn't mean other opinions are invalid - i read all opinions.

Anyway can you please show who voted for whom, we're getting off topic :o

People take this game far too seriously.
It's Fantasy Football folks, it's not real.
Lads talking about perspective etc, take the whole fantasy issue into perspective ffs. It's not real, boardsies are not your real friends.

Get a girlfriend or boyfriend or whatever makes ya happy but the effort and seriousness people put into a fantasy game is pathetic.

Just my opinion of course :-)

Suarez for me, and no you can't have where I've finished previously or where I'm placed this year lol

Meh, if people feel the need to include their team/position in their sig let them.

As I said earlier, if i had Suarez I'm pretty sure I'd give him the armband. If he's on form he could run riot against Reading.

Could be an option. I'm still avoiding all Everton players as I do every season.

Their usual blow up seems to be a bit late this season but I'm still confident it will happen :)

Me too, but it's Baines. The only other two players with better prospects for this GW would be Jelavic and Cazorla.
I've decided on Cazorla for the Armband but looking for a differential captain. A lot of people are going to choose Cazorla.

I've also got Ba, Nolan & Michu. Nolan, maybe?

This is a fantasy football forum so a fantasy football related insult would be good.

As for derailing the topic, all my posts have been FF related. What is FF related about your tripe above?

There's a humour forum or even the Cavan forum if you want to insult Cavan.

Of course, it's hard for you to insult me on an FF basis when I've finished with a higher points total than you six out of the seven seasons we've both played the game.

Now, we'll leave it there before you embarrass yourself further and resort to calling people names like you did last season.

In a word: no. I think Everton will win but QPR have the makings of a decent team and I can see them scoring.

Don't forget Fellaini is out as well and Everton have struggled in games where he hasn't made an impact like the West Brom and Wigan games.

I'd go with Nolan before Baines.
