Hi guys, need a bit of advice. I’m thinking of getting a few weaned lambs next year to grow on. I’m looking at fencing off about an acre but have not applied for a flock number yet. What will a vet be expecting besides a secure fence, obviously water but would shelter be required? If so how basic could it be. Anything else I need to prepare?

Give your local department Ag office a ring and ask them. I think you will need shelter of some sort, but it can be as basic as you want it to be I imagine...

Yep that’s the obvious thing to do. It’ll be a while until I have any lambs, still trimming hedges and yet to fence. I’ll talk to them and it’ll give me plenty of time to find/make what’s needed

I got a flock number last year. It was fairly straight forward.
    1. Need some land
    2. A very basic pen - somewhere to catch a sheep
    3. He asked about a small shed if I have a sick animal

All in all it was a friendly chat over a cup of tea - we filled in the forms and a few weeks later I got my number along with record books and dispatch books.

Best of luck with your lambs

A garden shed is adequate for shelter requirement for sheep

Thanks for the input. I’ll be on the look out for a small garden shed or make something out of sheets of osb.
