Brendan's guests this week are as follows:
80s heartthrob Nik Kershaw will be in the studio. Kershaw is set to talk about how chart topping success never brought him happiness along with performing a track from his new album.

Brendan will also be chatting to architect Dermot Bannon about the future of the Irish property market and the return of Room to Improve for a 6th series.

Almost 15 years on from the death of Father Ted actor Dermot Morgan, his sons Ben, Rob and Don join Brendan to remember the legendary Irish comedian and share their memories of their dad.

Following the loss of their High Court action over the medical treatment of their 10-year-old son Mark, Linda and Anthony Duffy share their feelings about the judgment and reveal to Brendan what the future holds for them as they now face legal costs of up to €500,000.

I'll tell you another fact about Nik Kershaw - he only co-wrote Chesney Hawkes' iconic hit 'The one and only' :)

Here's to Dermot, Scrap Saturday and those voices. ;) he'd walk all over any comedian alive today ( but of course in a nice way:P) if still present on this planet.

Well said. I think he might have gone on to do something like a satirical 'Scrap Saturday' style show in the UK after Father Ted. I think it would have been a huge success. At least he left a legacy in Father Ted which will be enjoyed now and for generations to come. RIP.

I loved Nik Kershaw! - He will be affectionately know to me always as the man who had the "Readybrek Glow"........all yellow and psychedelic.....:):):)

Didn't that about NK and Chesney, Skid - Poor Chesney is cleaning carpets with Vanish nowadays!....

Poor Chesney, his star shone briefly but brightly, like a shooting star. But sure, it's better to live a moment in the sun, than a lifetime in the shade.

One hit wonders will be wonders forever !!

I remember that tabloid headline when Chesney was in jail...

"Call me by my name or call me by my number"

(edit: all of the above is false, but wouldnt it have been funny :D)

So, what did y'all think of the 1D interview last night?

They're no good, but fair play to them. ;):D

He wrote this song by accident, he had the melody in his head for ages but could not work in lyrics to suit.

One day while messing around with random sentences it all came together and the Riddle was born.

    True story.....I think:)

Is Dermot Bannon not a repeat interviewee?? Wasn't he on either the LLS or the SNS last year??

A clip was shown of him on Blind Date... Which, apparently he then sold his story (kiss & tell) about the girl to the tabloids - what a sleazy slime ball.

Two further things I'd like to point about Dermot
    (a) he reminds me of DLB for some reason  Anyone else get this??
    (b) he makes a fair old mess of some of the jobs on that Room To Improve, but has this big old arrogant "I'm always right" head on him.

It may have come across in my post above but for the record: I don't like him.

Fair play to them for not cringing under their chairs while "Uncle DLB" played parlor games with them..........

It was like watching your dad trying to entertain the teenagers to stop them going "missing out to the back shed" while keeping an eye on the daughter........

And you go into school on the Monday and everyone laughs at you......:eek:...

No. I never had a party. (Well I did but not like last nights!!!!!........:D:D:D)

Yes, he was on the LLS on October 7 last year, in what I remember as one the worst shows ever. He was probably called in tonight when Melanie Verwoerd got sidelined due to legal problems. I doubt if he has anything interesting to say this time either

If they have to have an RTE Reality show presenter on as a guest, they should go for a more likeable one, like this man ...

Skid that's a really good point!!!

But obviously if they rang Francis he'd be like "Jesus Mary and joseph, on a saturday night, would you stoppit sure isn't Kenmare far too busy for me to be dropping everything to head up to Dublin just to get my head on tv"

Whereas Dermot Slimeball-on probably said "how much?"

Seriously I think the fact that he sold a story to a tabloid needs repeating. How low can you go??

I'm reading between the lines here, but I'm getting the impression you're not one of Dermot Bannon's biggest fans, am? :p

Francis was on Craig Doyle last season, he was game for a laugh, I think even might depressed with the current line of Mr. T's questioning lately......

"So tell me Francis, how did you get into hotels??????"

"And why do you not like the colour of the front door/duvet cover/tiles in the toilet???"

    zzzzzzzz

Always fascinates me is that he gets away with it. Half way through the build usually both the builder and client want to kick the head off Dermot, but yet once build is complete they are all mad about him

    Good evening All:)

Is this really what people want on a Saturday Night?

I really feel for them, it must be really awful to have a €500,000 legal bill hanging over you on top of having a child with severe special needs to care for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

This poor couple - my heart goes out to them........what an emotional burden let alone a financial one also......

    And people moan about sh***...........

    Makes me feel sad.

Not particularly, but it would be nice if they received some help or financial support following their appearance on the show.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,873 ✭✭✭Skid

There must be a better way to settle negligence claims than the High Court. The legal fees are massive.

WEll, put MrsD, it is a pity that organisations like the JacknJill foundation are needed to fill the gap the state can't/wont provide.

Medical card out of date words fail me............

they must be under constant pressure...heart breaking...oh God the nappy/fluid intake qts break my heart

I think people like this Skid would probably rather be a home not dragging themselves out on TV....It's a sad indication of the HSE that they are begging for a medical card......

Like the Professor from Holles Street begging for money for equipment.......

Brendan has a young daughter with Downs Syndrome so I'd say that he has first hand experience of how poor the services are in this country for children/people with special needs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,873 ✭✭✭Skid

The Medical card system is messed up.

Take them off wealthy pensioners who can afford to live without them, and give them to parents of sick children who do.

Very true, but having said that at least we have the luxury of switching channels, this is their life, there is no escaping the nightmare for them and their son.

I wonder what Dermot thinks of Priory Hall, given that he is such an advocate of apartment living.
