When you apply to become a bus driver when do you get to drive a bus first?
Do they test you first to see if you can drive it or do you get training?

Also when you finish a shift can you just park the bus anywhere and head home?

Do you get to pick what routes you work?

What are the typical work hours/days?

Once you pass the driving test, or if you have your licence coming into the job, you do a company test which is kinda similar. Then there is a few days up in the training school getting a talk about the by laws and stuff, a guard comes in telling you what to do if there is trouble on your bus. You choose your union, either SIPTU or NBRU.

After that your allocated your garage. Once you get there your shown all the routes over the space of a week, then the next day your out in your own.

    It's not that scary. :)

At the end if your shift you either bring the bus back to the garage, park it in town for the next driver, or change drivers mid route. You don't get a choice, it's on your board which one you do each time.

You are meant to check the bus at each terminus. Lots don't but to be honest it's good to get out of the cab and when the passengers are waiting at the terminus looking in at you and banging on the doors or windows to get in it looks like your doing something.

They don't seem to noticethat you have after driving a good distance with all sorts happening from stupid questions, mad people, mad drivers and the usuall aggresion so honestly it's nice to have a few minutes to yourself.

Look up DB site for bye laws.

I myself do clear some rubbish especially bottles as they fly all over the place and end up smashing when flying down the stairs also the danger of hitting someone.

You are supposed to check the bus for lost property. Most don't go it every time but it is good to get out and stretch your legs. If somebody got sick or if there is broken glass either from a broken window or a broken bottle, call your Controler and they will get you a change if bus.

All you do is drive it.

When the bus is in the garage, somebody else drives it through the wash, cleans the inside of the bus and empties the safe.

That's got nothing do to with the driver.
