Certainly looks slicker, but it also resembles the more recent Xbox Live storefronts - which can be a nightmare to navigate. We'll see when it goes live if it's an improvement.

    Improved UI functionality - WANT

    Metro-like UI -

No mention if it fixes the download list so it's easier to find what you want. Like I know my list is a nightmare to find something in so I dread to think what it's like for someone who gets more use out of the store for DLC, themes, etc.

My download list recently messed up so the order is out.

Gah! Not again. I spend all this time getting used to their ill-designed store, and then when I get a fix on it they change it again

Cue several more months of trying to figure out where everything is again

Anything could be better than what it currently is. Even going into the Freebies section of PS+ gives you 5 of the exact same icons with no description!!

+1 on the download list too, i'm sure there's something in there that i didn't actually download, but it's such a mess i can't be bothered going through it. And it's getting worse thanks to PS+ giving me loads of goodies!

    Probably due to this redesign
PlayStation Network is offline for scheduled maintenance from 13:00 BST on Monday 15 October 2012 to 02:00 BST on Tuesday 16 October 2012.

A new store look, well that's a good thing in all honestly been the same bland blue for years now and it's become such an eyesore! Hopefully things will be arranged better

    looking good

The design, while not ideal is not really the issue. Download speeds are the real problem with the PSN store. Fix that and I'll be happy.

Got to say I've no download speed issues with the PSN store.
I get over 1 mb a second over a wifi connection. Maybe a local issue or would you consider that slow?

Is this gonna result in.psn being down for the day.. :-(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,493 ✭✭✭RedXIV

Well the store is as glitchy as ever. Little disappointed to be honest, was looking forward to playing with it

It takes me 2 hours to download a file on my ps3 that would take 10 minutes on my pc. It's always been terrible

is it true you can use paypal now in the store? Be great if that was the case since means don't have to go out and buy PSN credit in the shop if you don't want Sony to have your card details. But will also be dangerous as you don't have to go out and buy credit. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,983 ✭✭✭mystic86

Tried out the store earlier, it's better than the old one but still not good enough - seems you can't 'sort' and 'filter' your downloads list like you now can on the store. Annoying.

Is this new store automatically going to show up or do I have to update my PS3 and all that?

There were issues with the new store in Europe so they had to revert back to the old store.

Tried to get on last night to download a couple of games overnight. Couldn't get into the store at all, just black screen loading and then back to the xmb. Bit of a joke at this stage.

I never have any speed issues either.

So did Ireland get it and have it taken away?

Europe had it and it was taken away - being slowly rolled out.
No mention of when Ireland will get it.

New store up again , not a fan of it at

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,968 ✭✭✭aindriu80

i set up an Australian account to check out the new store and thought it was pretty good, I know there are some issues but by in large I was happy enough with it.

The only thing about sony is their web browser and general internet speeds both on PlayStation 3 and their TVs are very slow. I don't know why they are so slow but loading up any web page takes ages.

its sleek, its shiny, it looks futuristic how can you not like it?????

who am i kidding i hate it, im sure i just have to get used of it

I like it, much easier to use. I'm finding free things that were added weeks ago on ps+ that I missed. You can add avatars and themes to a shopping cart and then download them all at once, before you needed to download each one individually.

Sometimes I get speed issues. It took about 20 hours last month to download both Skyhawk modes, GTA3 and Hell Yeah on 60mbs broadband with UPC. Would have taken maybe 90 minutes to download files that size to PC.

but you could do that in the old one

Feels like one step forward, one step backwards TBH. Lots of wasted space (the autumn sale section, for example, has a banner obstructing half the screen). The menus generally seem cleaner and faster, although I preferred the fact that the old store had all the sub-menus on the homepage. Looks slicker - the moving backgrounds are a nice touch - although can imagine the clicking sounds driving me insane :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 698 ✭✭✭sin0city

I find the layout far better than the old one. Seems more intuitive and there's no dummy or duplicated links, particularly in the Playstation Plus section. It'll take a bit of getting used to but it's a big improvement for me. Now if they'd only fix it so you can filter and sort the download list. Being able to browse the store on anything with a browser would be good too...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 784 ✭✭✭Klair88

Im liking it, feels more advanced and the layout is perfect. Not sure i like how you can only view content up close and at max 6 per page. Color and background look really good too.

On the other hand, lads beware the latest system update (4.30) moves the trophy section on the XMB menu to under the network section. It also includes a big nasty terrible looking "Singstar" item on the XMB menu under "Game" which cant be deleted.

    :mad:I am furious!!!

Im already mad OCD about keeping my XMB clean and organised and now this crock of sh!t greets me everytime i want to play a game. :(

Bastards. Sits right at the top of the list of games too.:mad::mad:

I don't have OCD. I just think this is bull****.

    Who the **** plays Singstar?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,024 ✭✭✭✭ShaneU

That singstar thing has to go and fast, what were they thinking.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 30,020 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

Have to agree, the Singstar thing is absolutely ridiculous. I can see its purpose - $$$$$ - but surely the option to delete wouldn't be too difficult to add? Moving the trophy section seems absolutely pointless too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,439 ✭✭✭Josey Wales

I went into the new Store last night and thought it was terrible. I prefer the old design in every way. Also the speed still sucks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,785 ✭✭✭eddhorse

Finally, an easy way to get to my favourite game, one less click to get to Singstar.

I don't like change, this seems clunky and slow, blank tiles for me that slowly fill up, 25MB UPC hmmmm

Haven't been on the store lately but after trying it out i think it's far better than before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,382 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I think someone is going to lose their job (or, at least not be allowed "talk" to people again) because of the SingStar app:

    http://www.gamingbittervets.com/2012/10/this-is-what-horrible-pr-is-like.html

    She rightly messed up here...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,968 ✭✭✭aindriu80

I rate the new design and layout but don't like what they done with the trophies. The animation for loading and exiting trophies looks like there is a few lines of code missing somewhere.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,645 ✭✭✭Daemos

I don't like it. Finding the most recent games is much more cumbersome than it was. The SingStar idea was absolutely terrible but doesn't bother me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 TomWalkingDead

I like the new store layout but it feels slow starting it up... I guess that's because of all the images it now loads..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,997 ✭✭✭Mr.Saturn

It seems to have introduced a bike-lock search function, which is a bit tedious.

More than a bit. It's an utter pain. Also not liking how they seem to have removed the categories seperating different themes, avatars, etc.

It looks and feels a lot smoother, which I like, but the bike-lock search and (unless I missed it) lack of categories is frustrating. Took 15 minutes to dig up an avatar I should have found in two on the avatar page.

Just out of interest, what's a bike lock search function? Did google but didn't help.

You scroll down through the alphabet until you find the first letter, then you move across and do the same for the 2nd letter and so on.

Edit: The bike lock is the type of one that you might have a 4 digit number to open the lock. You rotate each digit until it's the right number and then the lock will open.

ah, thanks for that, perfect description of it.
