    Hi everyone,

I spotted this today on Pigsback.com & was wondering if it is worth buying.
My bfs bday is coming up. He was saying he wanted some tablet but I forget which one.. I am not very up to speed with technology but we both have HTC Sensation smartphones.. Would this be any good do ye reckon? Or am I better off buying something else? I have never even used a Tablet so I have no idea of the usual size or the specs. Thanks!

Its coming from outside the EU, so you'll likely get charged VAT/customs on top of the €89. And will probably take a couple of weeks to arrive.

It is being shipped from outside the EU so you will have to pay about another €27 once it arrives. Plus it will take a while to be delivered.

Personally I'd go for this. Have one myself and can't fault it.

Or if you have more money I'd recommend the Nexus 7.

Oh ya I forgot about Vat & Customs..

Has anyone heard of Asus Transformer? sorry I have no idea..

Yes, the transformer prime infinity is probably the best tablet you can buy, although you'd be looking at about ~€700 for it with the dock. It all depends on your budget really.

Because I don't know your budget, here's a quick summary of good tablets for the price:

    <€100
    <€250
    <€500
    >€500

These are just examples of tablets in these price ranges but they're all really good for their prices.

Pigsback offered a tablet before that got caught for customs, but they refunded everyone that got charged.

Direct quote from the Ops link
This product is being shipped from outside the EU and an additional VAT charge MAY apply. This is payable to An Post on behalf of Customs and Excise. We estimate this charge to be €20.47 plus a handling fee of €6, payable on delivery of the product. These charges WILL NOT BE refunded by Pigsback.com or by Dino Direct

The Nexus 7 is indeed a very good option. It'll get updated to newer versions of Android before other non Nexus tablets will, for the first 2 years of its life anyhow.

However some (like me) are put off by its lack of sd card slot and hdmi out. If this is the case then I'd recommend considering the new Acer Iconia A110 7" instead. Quad core, camera, sd card slot, and hdmi out. Price is about £180 in the UK so definitely a consideration under €250.

i would add galaxy tab 2 to the list

    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5088735/Trail/searchtext%3ESAMSUNG+GALAXY+TAB+2.htm

it was much better deal with €30 cashback offer, but it still is ok for the price

it don't have nexus power when it comes to 3d gaming & screen is slightly less packed with pixels but unlike nexus it has microsd slot, rear camera and there is optional 3g

in my opinion - nexus for home use - gamers that want 3d, geeks that can use nas or samba and beginners that don't have too much files to store on it

galaxy if you travel a lot, want either to read, listen and watch plenty of locally stored content or you plan to use 3g

If he wants an Asus Transformer, Amazon have £140 off this one this week only. £359 reduced form £499. Delivery will be free and there will be no hidden charges. If that's the one he's said he wants, you probably won't get it cheaper, and it probably means he wants a 10.1" tablet and not the likes of the one on pigsback which is a 7".

Dam you, would love a transformer but with already having a laptop and 7 inch tablet cant justify it,

    with £140 off though........

I know what you mean. I just got a Galaxy Tab 10.1 yesterday and I'm tempted to sell it already and get the Transformer.

Windows 8 on the horizon does make me want to delay though

I have had one of them. Was playing with it, and had put a custom rom on it. Waiting for it to load up, went to the bathroom, came back, put on the kettle, answered my phone sat down.

    CRACK!

    :mad::mad:

    Now i am looking for glass. I know if i find it, it'll be about €60 - €80 :(
Anyway, i found the W70pro for a decent price, (€87.86 Landed After Duty paid)

    W70 PRO from Pandawill = €71.46 + Free shipping Duty = €16.43

W70 Pro has 1GB instead of 512MB RAM.

    Cheaper HERE

If it gets past Duty, i'm laughing.. About 6 in 10 are caught for me, so i'm going to try a friends address.

I was very interested in the Eken W70 as posted by Aristotle until I saw the Eken W70 Pro posted by Allyall above.

However when I compared specs it seemed the Pro was inferior in some ways. Although as Allyall says the Pro has 1GB RAM instead of 512MB, the processor is listed as slower (1.2GHz instead of 1.5GHz) and the camera on the W70 Pro is only 0.3 Megapixels instead of 1.3 Megapixels on the W70. Also the battery on the Pro is 2300mAh whereas on the W70 it is 3000mAh.

I don't understand why they would bring out a Pro model with inferior processor speed, camera and battery? Can anyone comment on the value of the extra RAM on the Pro? Would it only make a difference if you wanted to do a lot of multitasking? My own feeling is that the extra processor speed should make the W70 more responsive and I would have thought the 0.3 Megapixel camera on the Pro was just a toy whereas I might get some use out of the 1.3 Megapixel camera on the W70? Again with the smaller capacity battery on the Pro I would expect less use between charges?

It shouldn't have any difference. From the EKEN website, the Pro Model is the same, just with 1GB instead of 512MB
    DDR SDRAM ▄ DDR3 512MB (1GB Optional)

    LINK

Some of the chinese websites misquote a lot of the specs in a lot of the tablets. I thought it's because they were clones. But a lot of the time its just tardiness/laziness (For lack of a better word)

Check it out on all the Chinese sites. Some say 1GB and in the spec say 512MB, also they say the camera specs are different etc..

It's the same tablet - I only know the one i linked to is okay, because i have found people who have bought it from that link (Pandawill) and are happy with it. I purposely put the Umitablets link after, as i don't know anyone who has purchased from them.
If you want to chance it.. (I probably will buy from them closer to the end of November) I believe them to be safe enough.

I personally believe many factories make these tablets, and they are not all made in the same place, by the same people. The Link i gave is the same stock (Currently) as the original spec w70 pro.

It gets messy with China because they clone so many products, but generally you get what you expect, in this case a 1GB version of the W70.

Thanks for the Eken website link. It seems that the manufacturer Eken don't actually list a 'Pro' model, just a basic model with some optional items (storage, RAM and battery)? Based on that I can see your point that the Chinese sellers are misquoting specs and my concern about camera pixels and processor speed are probably not relevant.

The UK site does list the larger 3000 mAh battery on their model. I presume that their spec is correct? Would you happen to know how easy it would be to change or upgrade the battery in the future if I purchased from a Chinese seller?

Finally I notice that although Pandawill say 'worldwide free shipping' the other supplier Umitablets charge $16.86 for registered airmail. Mind you it still works out about $10 cheaper.

I was thinking of trying Umitablets but I found this:
    www.thewholesaleforums.co.uk/threads/umi-tablets-are-they-legit.157047

Maybe for the sake of $10 It would be best to go with Pandawill!

The battery itself isn't hard to change at all, but it wil be expensive..

Umitablets, are pretty well known, but as you said, it's only $10 (€7.70), and you have safer piece of mind (For now) with Pandawill.

Thanks for all the info. I'm under a bit of pressure to buy for a present so now thinking I may go with the UK supplier Aristotle referenced (Futeko) initially to get quick delivery. If it looks good I will buy another from Pandawill or Umitablets for myself for Christmas!!:)

Fuetko will have the W80 in on the 23rd Oct. It's snazzy, the same size as the iPad, definitely 1GB SDRAM, 5000Amh battery. Seems to be down a USB port though it still has the mini-USB

They should have a price up soon enough

I hummed and hawed over what 7" to buy for ages- eventually settled for the ainol novo 7 crystal- great spec, cheap, good community support and reliable quality by all accounts- really can't wait to get my mits on it! Anyway, I found it for $109, free shipping. They also do a novo 7 flame, which is even better spec and about $150 on most sites- but there have been a good few reports of bugs and hardware issues so I reluctantly steered clear!
Anyway, after weeks of timewasting reading forums etc (Instead of studying!), I thought the crystal was def the best value and peace of mind for my 80 quid!
Good luck with your purchase OP!

What do yous think of this. Don't know to much about tablets but looking to get one for me and th girlfriend for general browsing, watching movies, reading books. It says mini hmdi, so can I connect it to my tv?? Or is there a better one than this for around the same value? http://www.pandawill.com/freelander-pd20-olympic-gps-tablet-pc-7-inch-android-40-dvbtmpeg2-1gb-ram-8gb-dual-camera-black-p63692.html.

The Crystal has a better screen and processor and has lots of support on slatedriod. One thing that drives me nuts about ainol product though are they are useless for skype, they create an echo on the call, so you have to use a head set.

I do think that the crystal is a good buy for the price just letting you know the issue with Skype. I have a ainol novo fire/flame myself and it does feel like a quality product but has some small issue.

    I really don't know frown.png

I would choose the Crystal there too..
But for an extra €7 you could buy it from HERE making it €97. Main reason i suggest them is, in the (un)likely event you get caught for VAT in customs, they promise to refund you.

Maybe THIS - It has 1024 x 600 Resolution, but mainly because it has a USB 3G Adaptor which will allow it to work with less hassle, outside the house. Rather then having to hunt down a wifi spot.
