Increase in size of legs from training

    Hey all,

maybe the ladies of the forums might be best placed to answer my question, or maybe the fellas, not sure!

Basically, I'm at the gym 4/5 times a week, mostly 5.
I do boxing, spinning, a pump class (bar weights and core work) and my own stuff in the gym with weights and a bit of cardio. Also jog 1/2 a week.

I'm also watching my diet (calorie counting)

My main aim is weight loss but I know with the amount of gym work with weights, tonight is the most likely result.

    So... my actual question.

What I've noticed lately is that there hasn't been a huge shift on the scales but my clothes are looser in places. Which is great.

But I find when I take my measurements that my thighs have gotten bigger by like 1/2 inches! :O

My waist on the other hand has lost about 2/3

I'm wondering has anyone else found the same?

DOn't really want my legs any bigger, they're a bigger part of me anyway!!! They look/feel more toned but I really notice the few inches in the legs of my jeans! While the waist is hanging

maybe substitute the spinning for something else non-legs?

im surprised theyre growing, usually the fat lost balances out any muscle gains.

Hmm maybe. Only started the spinning 2 weeks ago though.

I had just done weights that morning so perhaps it was swelling from that but they were tight in jeans today too!

    Curiouser and curiouser!

It's not going to be 1 to 2 inches of muscle anyway, more than likely if you only recently starting training your legs that its just more water being drawn into the muscle because its being targeted. Keep up the exercise and if in say 4 weeks your legs aren't to your satisfaction drop the calories.

If you're someone who is predisposed to storing fat on the thighs then it will be the last to come off. Don't be afraid of exercising your legs, that exercise is going to be what shapes/tones them etc

Depends who you ask. Depends on the thighs too.

How long are you training? What do you do in the gym?

If your weight loss has stalled a while, maybe reduce calories further.

I think my cals are as far as I can push them. I probably need to eat more realistically with the training- more protein etc... but I;ll keep at it and see how I go. I'm maintaining my weight anyway which is a plus.

If people remember Gladiators back in the 90's.

I remember a training montage piece and Diane Youdale or Jet was there and they said she had 23/24in thighs and she was 5ft6/7 and about 9st.

The clip showed her doing near 300kg leg presses.

It is only half an inch on the thigh so IMO I would give it time and see what happens as things will balance out.

If your legs have gotten slightly bigger but are now leaner and better looking then that is a good thing.
