Is it safe to use expired milk of magnesia? the expiry date is february 2012. It has been kept in the fridge since it was bought.

I don't think anyone is going to recommend that you consume something that is 7 months out of date. I know that I would rather spend a couple of euros buying a new bottle than suffering the potential consequences.

If it's 'best before' you could use it.
If it's 'used by' bin it.

Had Gastroenteritis during the week and even though i'm over the worst if it now the tummy still seemed a bit "acidy"to me so i thought some Milk of magnesia would settle it down but after visiting several pharmacies in Cork i was amazed to discover that it's not available at the moment and won't be for some time. I was reccommended the next best option, gaviscon, but was stunned that MoM seems to have been discontinued.
My mum always swore by it, basically as a cure for everything, coughs, colds, allergies, you name it, there was always a bottle in the house.Hopefully it will be back on the shelves in the near future.
