    No news there.
We've known Ashley was a complete twat for years.

    Twats? An expletive?

    Really?

As a Chelsea fan I hope he does, England have Baines anyway.

As I said in the Chelsea thread, I wouldn't be surprised in the FA tread softly around Cole despite this outburst. They've pretty much accused him on lying to their panel and by extention, accused him of perjury in front of a court a law. If they try to come down hard on him, he could very easily push back and sue them for slander.

He is starting to slip a little and England have a few options for LB. I don't think he would have been the automatic starter he was anymore anyway. Likely still first choice, but not as clear cut as it used to be.

Couldn't Terry do the same seeing as he wasn't found guilty in court?

It is sometimes used as slang for that, but I've always thought its used more now as just a stronger word for idiot or fool.

    EDIT: Wiki thinks so too
Although sometimes used as a reference to the female genitalia, the word twat is more often used in various other ways:

As a derogatory insult, a pejorative meaning a fool, a stronger alternative to the word twit - 'He can be a complete twat' (often used in the UK)

Jordi Alba isn't even close. Average left back who is very fast.

Jodi Alba isn't even close to Cole and never will be.

He was a good winger who was moved to left full.

He's a good wing back but he will never be the best in Europe, he just happens to have zero competition in the spanish squad right now.

The only reason Barcelona signed him is because he is Catalan.

Haha, sure, thats the ONLY reason Barca signed him...

Edit..Anyway Alba isnt the topic here, personally, I think Alba is a better left back than Cole.

Aside from the footballing side of things, I personally do not think Ashley Cole is a nice human being, so seeing him less on TV is something I approve of.

    I commend the comment.
As much as I detest Cole, the FA are twats and always have been!

I hope he does retire, it will prolong his club career.

Best LB in England and Europe for the best part of a decade.

Easy to hate the guy but on the picth, where it matters, hes head and shoulders above the rest.

    Jordi Alba.........ya.

Agreed, completely unlikeable character but football wise is the complete left back. I often think if he was German or Spanish he would be recognised as the best in his position worldwide.

His game has deteriorated a little over the last few seasons but still a great player.

Thats the thing, the English have a tendency to overhype average players to the hilt but in Coles case iots not true.

The guy has won it all and played the best and rarely come off looking like a mug, he was one of our best players in our UCL campaign.

Yes, hes not a likeable character but TBh, I'll never know him in a personal capacity so as long as he does it on the pitch I'm not bothered what he does off.

What did the FA say about him?

What did the FA say about him?

Basically that he lied through his teeth during Terry's trial & FA hearing.

Page 46 makes interesting reading regarding Cole's evidence.

What did the FA say about him?

Not much I'm guessing but I figure he assumes his explanation in the court trial should have got Terry off the FA charges. Realistically all the FA found was that Terry used racist language which on the face of it was blatantly obvious. I'd never try and argue Cole is a smart bloke but he is a terrific footballer, his performances in the latter stages of the Champion's League were amongst the best i've ever witnessed, he has an incredible knack of putting in a big display in the biggest games.

He's being inside Cheryl Cole, that makes him alright in my book.

Cole is the best LB in Europe. Simple as.

    Has been for years.

Just curious, a lot of you throwing the "best in Europe" tag around... is there someone outside Europe you rate higher?

    I would say Marcelo,

Really, the guy is good going forward but not at Coles level defending, especially in his positional sense.
    Coentrao

He cant even dislodge Marcelo from the Real team even though I'd prefer Coentrao then Marcelo, both good going forward but Coentrao is less likely to get caught.
    Lahm

Hes a RB whos covered at LB when needed, very well but hes not an out an out LB.
    Baines

:pac: Ha, theres a reason Cole has kept Baines as back up LB for England, its becasue hes better then him and succesive English managers cant be wrong can they?

lol, let the hate flow through you.

Cole, dislikeable as he may be, is a warrior left back - one of the finest players in his position in European football. He would be a huge loss to his national side.

I think the fact that Cole plays for one of the top 4 clubs in England is more of a factor in his selection over Baines, than the fact that hes the better player. I think Baines is the better full back defensively and he's a set piece specialist who will score more goals than Cole.

The young German lad Schmelzer I never mentioned, he's up with the best in Europe too.

What ever you say about Lahm, the rest of your suggestions are just nutty. The fact you even bring Coentrao into the equation suggests to me that you are more of a follower of Football Manager and transfer fees than actual performances of a player.

Ah come on now lads, Ashley may be a bit of a twat, but some of the names ye are ranking above him are idiotic.
Alba, Marcelo, Contreao are ye for real none of them have a patch on Cole, Id have him easily the best left back in the world, Philip Lahm when he plays there is world class and Id have him second but never really threatening Cole.
Lahm is the best RB though, but all the other names ye have thrown out are just fad names, you have to think theirs a reason Cole starts for england and Baines doesnt.

It would hardly be a travesty for England, he'll be 33 in Rio and Baines is more than capable of filling his shoes.

There's no doubt he has been one of the best left backs in world football for the last decade though.

You have to ask why Baines isnt playing with a Top 4 club, the reason is simple, hes not as good as the options the top 4 currently have, with the exception of Man Utd, but Utd in buying a cheaper option in Buttner looked to have gotten a good player then the older and more expensive Baines.

City have 2 good LB's, Arsenal have Gibbs another Cole under study and while I'd rate Baines slightly higher then Gibbs theres no point replacing Gibbs with Baines as there is not much between them.

England are blessed with people that can take set pieces so between losing Baines set pieces or picking Cole I'd pick Cole everyday of the week.

So rating Marcelo higher than Cole is nutty?
