as per the thread title, arived back in dublin tonight, the battery in my car is dead, my uncle doesnt have jump leads and his micra wouldnt start my car anyway!
dont have any form of breakdown assistance either.

anyone know anybody in the coolock/clonshaugh area that I could contact who would give me a jump start for a reasonable fee?

    Do you have dash lights?
If so a push is worth a try.

Good thinking, but I don't think op has jump leads.

Suppose he could ask if the driver does...

If at an option, I could meet you out there about half ten or so in the morning? Drop me a pm if I can help.

There is another option, not a good one in my opinion, there is a breakdown service in the airport who provide services for drained batteries.

    It is ridiculously expensive iirc.

But a micra(Great car!) would be plenty for a bump start. Simply put bumper to bumper and give her a gentle nudge for coast. Turn her over and pump it
Keep it running for awhile to recharge the battery a bit.

If your in a car park sometimes they have those starter packs/battery booster things to get you going at least.

If not im sorry i cant help! Are you sure your insurance doesn’t have breakdown assistance might be worth ringing just to double check.

Too far from me, otherwise I couldve helped!

On a related note, this shows that everyone should carry jump leads with them, and even a battery booster/starter pack!

The car is in my uncles front garden, so impossible to get out to push with my 65+ aunt and uncle helping ;)
Might just go buy a new battery, might be cheapest option.

Have you tried any of your neighbours? Fair chance one of them might have a set of cables or a charger.

Thanks to everybody who was willing to help, even those who would have helped were they nearer!

To make my day more exiting, it was low on diesel too, had to give it a decent drive to charge the battery, decided mayfield would be the optimum place to stop. Just before the mayfield exit the bloody thing started a dpf regen:eek:
Didnt want to stop during the cycle, so I said Id get juice in portlaoise half way through the regen the limited cruising range comes on:eek::eek:

For the first time ever filling my car cost more than€100 63L

And to the driver of the concrete lorry that pulled out in front of me in prtlaoise, you sir, are a colossol prick! I slowed with inches to spare!
And now im home:D my sky system isnt working and there is a fcucking bird stuck in my chimney:( and my boss just called to tell me my holidays in october have been cancelled:(:(

    I give up!

For future refence, phone the local Taxi companies. There is usually a few drivers who carry jump leads and will jump start a car (locally) for between €10 and €20...cheaper than joining the AA on the spot.

    ppfffffft - some chance!

I tried this before...walked to the Ranelagh village rank, offered €10, then €15 to be told by 3 drivers that it wasn't worth their while for that money - they could loose a fare.

I was 5 minute walk & damsel in a (clearly not short enough) dress distress.

I did for years, and never used them.

Anyway the uncles micra would have **** itself trying to start my tractor;)

Special thanks to Chuck norris who was willing to come over with the jump leads!

Well actually, it may be be able to do it if you left it connected for a while before trying to start it, or leave the car running for a bit too.

You dont really have a tractor though do you?:p.If you did it would be able to start it for sure:)

Ah its easy, just beware of sparks and this diagram shows how to keep any potential away from the battery. The battery on the right is the booster battery.

I know how to do it from an E46 to an E30. I have a severe fear of electricty also which doesn't help matters!!

Would not have killed the micra's battery, not the best for it though, often started a truck off a car whan it wouldn't start of a sunday lunchtime after been sat there since the friday night, just kept the car ticking over and connected across the fcukd battery, didnt take much of a swing to start the truck. Was told by a mechanic that it was bad for the car battery but the car always started the next weekend.
