I know it's an anomaly as there are odd and even numbers adjacent to each other. I know that exact identical set up i.e. D7 and D8 is in place at the entrance to the Phoenix Park at the streets I mentioned. It's gotta be the near the park. Somewhere along the Coyningham Road?

I was wondering if this one was unique. I guess not -- thanks!

Finally someone fires up Streetview! :P

Yes, what everyone including Google thinks is Benburb Street is still Parkgate Street, according to the signage.

So where does parkgate street stop and benburb begin. As Collins barracks is listed as benburb street. Although the entrance is a good bit from that junction. Not having a go at you but its interesting.

The modern OSI streetmap certainly calls that sign a liar. It's in a bit of a no-man's-land on the 25" from c.1900: Benburb Street might start at the far end of the mobilization stores (the buildings the signs are stuck to). There were no addresses on that bit east of Temple Street so the point is kinda moot.

I was very careful to ask for the sign text, not the names of the streets, though :D

JD's mightclub was always said to be on parkgate street even though I just thought it was benburb street- quality nightclub back in the day and all the brassers along that street -change days now

I wonder if, when the then mobilisations stores (now Civil Defence Depot) were built, the alignment of Temple Street West (or whatever it was called at the time) was changed. It seems to have previously been in what is now the yard of the depot: http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,713880,734414,7,7

It might be possible that the boundary between Parkgate Street and Benburb Street is the boundary between the barracks and Judge Darleys. There may have been a public lane there.

Judge Darleys appears to be 1-3 Parkgate Street https://www.google.com/search?q=Judge+Darleys&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a

Good spot, It's Stanley Street though, not Stable Lane, was Stable Lane the old name maybe?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,700 ✭✭✭tricky D

Yup, Google Earth says Stable Lane and OSI says Stanley St. OSI wins! Looking at the old OSI Mapviewer, it has been Stanley St for a loooooong time. I've a feeling Stable Lane might refer to the courtyard entrance a few yards eastward where the entrance to the Elbowroom yoga space is.

The Setanta Wall, in the yard between Setanta Place and Nassau Street.

I'm out of pictures, so someone else can go.

Arrah jaysus, I thought that would keep people stumped.

Weirdly the grey-brown aggregate it's stuck to is more distinctive for me than the fancy ceramics. I used to work just opposite the Setanta Centre.
