The most shocking thing about this story is that the bigger guy in the article is only 26

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,814 ✭✭✭TPD

The article doesn't mention if it was 5 bowls each or 5 between them - I'd say I could still be hungry after 2.5 (reportedly quite small) bowls of stir fry, if the case is that it was between them.
Fair bit of pigging out, but that is exactly the type of diner attracted by an all you can eat restaurant.

He only weighed 7 stone when he arrived with his garden fork and spade for a quick snack.

So, they were eating too much and are not allowed back!!!

Five bowls appears to be all you can eat.... ever.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-19817457

Two men barred from an all-you-can-eat Mongolian restaurant in Brighton say it was because they ate too much food.

George Dalmon and Andy Miles, both 26, have visited Gobi, in Middle Street, twice a month for two years to take advantage of the £12 deal.

But when they each ate five bowls from the buffet at their last visit, Mr Dalmon said they were called "filthy pigs" and barred by the "rude" manager.

The restaurant's owners said they were fed up with their lack of manners.

They accused the pair of pushing out other diners in their rush to get to the food.

But former rugby player Mr Dalmon said: "As we were eating the last bowl, the owner came up and said never to come back again, we're disgusting, and we're eating him out of business, so we're nothing but filthy pigs.

I'd say that restaurant will be dining out on the publicity for a long time.

Mr Dalmon is probably their marketing manager :-)

When backpack traveling myself and friends used to satisfy our immense appetite by eating quantities of food, now I would deem impossible, and relish it. This is what all you can eat is about. Similar to a casino, over time the house always wins even if someone gets the jackpot. From the link just wondering if these guys were just bouldering pricks"pushing people out of there way". There was one place that used to wait in horror for us to arrive but were polite enough(for ex-military itching to show themselves(France)) with confusion and distain on their face. Used to make a point of going up and thanking them personally for their great service before I left.

I was in a chinese buffet place in France once where the menu said there was a €5 charge for unfinished plates. Great idea I thought, until I took a big plate of "chicken skewers"...except they weren't, they were frogs legs. They looked really similar though. It was kind of like greasy chicken so wasn't too bad, better than paying €5 to not eat them anyway!

Fat people go mad for this ****. Two fat people I know had a contest to see who could eat more because they thought it was a sign of manliness.

    Fat people disgust me.

Well, those two should, but why fat people in general?

People love to moan about the Daily Mail, as much as they love chocolate.

In fairness, the Daily Mail is an awful rag.

All tabloids are rags, DM is no different.

Would safely say, more threads are started on AH with DM links, than any other newspaper, yet it's frowned upon like no other also.

That's the thing, how high were they piling their bowls?

The food in all-you-can-eat places is usually terrible. Gloopy congealed sauces laden with MSG and sugar to mask the lack of taste from the cheap meat and vegetables used. False economy as well. All-you-can-eat rarely means good value.

If the place is anything like the Mongolian Barbecue just off of Dame Street in Dublin, I'd be in complete shock if they could eat more than one bowl. I can't even finish one bowl in that place and I'm not skinny!

To be honest, it sounds like the manager didn't have much of a problem with them eating all they liked, as he allowed it for 2 years. If somebody was pushing customers/diners out of the way in order to race to get more food, I'd sure as hell kick them out, too.
