Yet one more reason not to watch them.

I don't get all the hate for McFarlane.

The guy is funny, charming and a great singer.
He looks good & is at ease in front of the camera.

I think he will do well.

Besides.... it can't be Billy Crystal forever.

I think he's unfunny, arrogant and an annoying singer.

He also gave a platform to Rush Limbaugh on his bull**** cartoon program, which is enough for me anyway

They've really outdone themselves in finding someone who has potential to be even worse than the woeful dynamic duo of Hathaway&Franco.

I really hope he nails it. I'm a big fan of his work and he is a very talented guy.

Not too fond of awards ceremonies but I may try to watch this in full now.

Seems like a strange choice alright - his humour doesn't seem like the right fit for the Oscars. I'm biased anyway as I find Family guy about as funny as an enema.

The last hosts I really liked were Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin a few years back. That Paranormal Activity sketch was hilarious :D

as long as they make the hosts stick that wooden plank up their ass, they will always be bad,

im surprised they didnt try and get justin bieber, although in saying that id say he was a contender knowing these people,

    Never heard of him.

I don't understand why they won't give Seinfeld a shot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,048 ✭✭✭Da Shins Kelly

Not a big fan of his. Always thought Family Guy was basically Simpsons and South Park-lite, but did have its moments. It hasn't been funny in years though, and not sure how I feel about him as a host anyway. I will never get used to his actual speaking voice. It sounds put on, or something.

McFarlane is a very nice guy.
Met him in a restaurant in LA a few years ago. Hadn’t a breeze who he was and asked him if he would take a photo and me and my wife.
He happily obliged and then chatted with us for the next 10-15 minutes about where we were from and a bit about our holidays and whether we were enjoying ourselves.
His female companion also joined in the conversation and it was all very pleasant and they then finished up their meal and left.
Turns out his companion was his date for the night – Amanda Bynes. Hadn’t a clue who she was either. The waiter had to tell us who they were ... after he had picked his jaw up off the ground after watching me ask for the photo! :D

I am really glad Seth has taken on the role of host for Oscars 2013. I think he will make a great host and at least we have an actor who knows how to act this time round.

I really can't stand Billy or Ricky when they host.

The reason I'd love to see Gervais hosting the Oscars is that even when they're trying to be tongue-in-cheek, they still play it safe. Gervais would change that completely, though he was a lot more subdued his second time around doing the Golden Globes so maybe he won't be.

Rest assured, McFarlane will play it safe...might as well give the job to Ryan Tubridy!

McFarlane is so deep in the pockets of corporate America, I guarantee you he won't say anything remotely controversial in fear of affecting the McFarlane brand.

The problem with hiring comedians essentially is you have an instant split into camps of people that love them or hate them.

Critically, MacFarlane is one of the most respected and successful comedy writers in the U.S. He regularly consults and writes for other shows and movies, aswell as creating and owning the IP for two of the most successful animated comedies in the last decade.

I'm sure he will do well, and I'm sure it will be enjoyable.

Its similar to Gervais, he splits audiences down the middle, yet critically, he's the most successful comedian in UK history...

So Argo takes a dive over the boring history lesson that was Lincoln. That clown announcing the awards should consider acting lessons to avoid needing an autocue and spotting bad jokes - even the girl beside him was embarrassed.

At the moment it seems to be pretty much down to Zero Dark Thirty or Lincoln. However, I can't see either of them actually getting it. I reckon Beasts will swoop in and nab Best Picture.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,502 ✭✭✭omerin

This really is a poor list of nominations-

    BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Mark Boal – Zero Dark Thirty (made for tv movie)
Quentin Tarantino – Django Unchained (nothing original)
Michael Haneke – Amour (haven't seen)
Wes Anderson, Roman Coppola – Moonrise Kingdom (haven't seen)
John Gatins – Flight (nothing original)

For the most part a very poor list of formulaic films which offer nothing new. I hope the ones I haven't seen are of a better quality

I'm still finding it difficult to take Bradley Cooper seriously, for some reason.

The Master not up for Best picture??

I hope Joaquin Phoenix wins Best Actor, but I won't be holding my breath....

Also a shame not to see Affleck nominated for Best Director. I haven't seen Lincoln, so I can't judge whether it deserves as many nominations as it has, but it certainly does seem to be popular with the academy this year.

Strange to see The Master not up for best picture either, its flawed, and tbh its more of a great character battle than a great film, the plot is pretty much nonexistant and it meanders all over the place, but the three main performances make it worth watching and it looks gorgeous.
