There's no contest, free weights. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong

Can you explain why? And is this the same for a woman who wants to develop lean muscle?

Even more so for a woman as machine weights are less likely to fit a woman's frame comfortably.

They are better because they require more work, not only are you using the muscles you are focusing on but your using other muscles to stabilise your body. Oh, btw all muscle is lean.

Machine weights have their place, they're safer for people that don't have a clue what they're doing & are great for rehab ,IMO anyone that disagrees is completely wrong!

If your healthy & have had good instruction from a competent trainer who is happy with your technique then free weights win hands down. It's nowhere near as black & white as people make it out to be.

It's the same for anyone wanting to build lean mass. Eat big, healthy & lift!

What's this?! A sensible, balanced approach, on the Internet?!! Surely not.

    ...dead right too.
