Was looking forward to treating myself to the new iphone 5 as I needed an upgrade from my current phone.

Got an email off apple this morning to say that it's now available to purchase :D:D:D

Went on to apple and nearly fell off my chair

    €679 for 16GB. €789 for 32GB and a whopping €899 for a 64GB

Personally I love the iphones and think they are worth what you pay for them but this time I think the price is just a bit to steep, any one else agree?

Got my free 64gig one yesterday, no problems as of yet. Quite happy with it to be honest, but little difference from a 4s running ios6. Wouldn't pay for one, but it's better than the free Galaxy S3 i got two weeks ago...

Hmmm, please do explain how it better? I'm not questioning it being a good phone, but better. What is better about it?

iCloud storage has been shock reduced from 20 gig to 5 – putting back-ups at serious risk! Suddenly users are warned they must pay Apple another €30.97 a year extra for what they were previously giving for nothing in sales talk!

    Quote from this link.
Has this just happened to new owners of the iphone 5? Or has all iphone owners been hit with this reduction?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,147 ✭✭✭PizzamanIRL

Thankfully I only use my phone for calling and texting.

    My laptop does everything else.

I wouldnt pay 700+ for all the little extras.

As I have said on here before(with regards to an S3 vs 4s), yes the S3 has better technical specs etc but i find the UI clunky at best, it's significantly slower and far less user friendly. Too many sub-menus. the email is not as user friendly(if you're on MS exchange and have sub folders you need to manually refresh each one to see if there is mail, terrible), and the apple approved apps tend to be of better quality than the open apps on Android.

S3 is probably better for people who want to share their whole life with social networking sites, but for those of us who don't, the iPhone just feels a better fit.

    Just my opinion though.

*EDIT the S3 is just too bloody big too. Mine will be gathering dust along with my Galaxy Tab for the foreseeable future.

Horses for courses and all that jazz guys, but do some folk not realise there are much cheaper, far superior products on the market, that restrict you a lot less than the iPhone?

I find the above to be the complete opposite tbh. All I ever see in any social networking site is "sent from my iphone".

I do keep wondering about this. How exactly am I restricted on the iPhone? I can make calls, listen to music, browse the web, download tried and tested apps that won't kill the thing, take photos etc. What else would I want to do?

I'd need to have myself sectioned if I spent €679 on a fùcking phone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,012 ✭✭✭Plazaman

I've got three of them. I like to rub myself with them.

iPhone 5 has a maximum vibrate setting so switch that on then set the first phone to call forward to the second and the second to call forward to the third then sellotape them to yourself and then call the first phone for a three way vibrating extravaganza. It's great.......ahem......so I hear.......

    Here's a few:
Can't borrow some music from a friend.
    Cant drag and drop files.
Can't put some music and videos on the phone without itunes without jailbreaking.
Can't play all audio and video formats, only what Apple allow.
    Can't change keyboard.
    Can't add widgets to homescreens
Can't charge anywhwere, miicro usb is everywhere now, I can go to anyones house and they have a means of connecting to and charging my phone.

Maybe with all your freebies, you're not giving enough time to fully explore each thing you get? Have a look at this thread I started, looking for a tablet for my complete technophobe parent. The obvious choice was the iPad, but I was convinced Android, given it's customisation could actually be made easier to use than an iPad could be. The results speak for themselves. The Android was instantly adapted to much more so than the iPad.

The same can be done with a phone of course, I've my phone set up as simply as possible. I don't have facebook linked to my phone at all so there's certainly nothing social about my phone. It's a business phone and I believe it can be better adapted for business use than the iPhone can be. It's all about choosing what's right for the end user. Android allows this, IOS doesn't really.

Also, I'm using a 3 year old HTC desire. I've no need to upgrade and I agree with you the phones coming out are getting too big :)

It's just plain incorrect, iCloud never had 20GB storage for free, it was given to some mobileme users when they were migrated to iCloud.

Biggins's blog could give the Daily Mail a run for its money in terms of incorrect facts and sensationalism.

The anti-Apple hysteria tbh is sadder than the people queueing up for their phones. If you've no interest in the products, ignore them!

My mate works in Vodafone (on phones) he's not looking forward to the hundreds of idiots calling in asking for an IPhone...

Many of who have already called in during the week and have been told they would not be getting one. They'll be calling in again though...because obviously the rep they talked to doesn't have a clue and someone else will obviously give them an IPhone... :pac:

While I slightly agree with the above, I'll argue that the iphone is a lot faster, more easier to use, offers a wider and better range of apps then any android phone I've ever used.

I don't want to be dragging and dropping files. A simple download and sync does it for me :)

Not if you enjoy it. My justification to myself on buying things like this is that I used buy newspapers daily, but now all my media is consumed on my phone. And the beauty is it does so much more than just phone and media

I've had a mac book since 2006 and two iphones (both of which I lost but how and ever). But I won't be buying any Apple products for the foreseeable future as long as they keep this arrogance stance they've accustomed. The iphone still can do things my old nokia could do, bluetooth wise.

Also the whole "let go nuclear war on andorid" speech from Steve Jobs, no thanks. Let's no let them dominate the market when they over charge, over protect and tell people what they want from a phone. Apple must be the worst for listening to their consumers.

    I'm out.

Its hard to tell if you're taking the piss... or you have never used a decent android phone, of which there are loads of different makes/models some good, some bad.

Again, it all depends on how well you've set up your phone. I'd be quite confident I could get a multitude of tasks completed quicker on Android than I could on the iPhone. By this I mean say I get a phone call about a job, I believe I could check a location on the map, check free dates in my calendar and when the call is ended, save the contact, add the job to the calendar, text details and send a confirmation email quicker on a well set up android, than I could on an iPhone.

Apps wise, Apple was of course ahead but Android has pretty much caught up at this stage, there's quality apps available for almost every application, just check the reviews and recommendations online and you'll be grand.

No not taking the piss. Each to their own but I really don't find android phones easy to use. I am not into widgets , and file dropping and dragging and they are slower then and iphone imo.

My iphone broke a while back ago and I used the Samsung Galaxy S2 for a couple of weeks. Couldn't wait to get my iphone back. I just found the phone hard to use. Maybe it's cause iv always really used and iphone, but as I said each to their own.
