Hope it's a good one, think the Americans have some real momentum going into this years event though, some of the European team are not playing well at the moment

My waters are telling me a US victory....

Can't see past the US team at the min. Still, this is why we love sport, anything can happen!

Bring on the Rory and Tiger showdown!

When asked a week ago i said Europe had no chance!!

1 week on i have convinced myself the complete opposite. They haven't a chance of beating us. This is our game, our tournament, Seve's tournament (Do it for Seve i say).
Anyway they couldn't possibly beat us with 4 rookies!! Maybe I'm delusional in anticipation.

Wouldn't be the first time we shocked as under dogs!!!

Looking forward to see who Rory and Gmac end up playing on friday?

We should have a few polls on how many times we here "Get in the hole" or You're the man"

I don't mind the cheering extra loud but fk me them 2 sentences do my head in. Especially get in the hole when teeing off on a par 5.

I think it will be close. 1st day will be big. Weather looks good for the week

We should have a drinking game! We'd be hammered after watching 5 holes!!

I think Europe can do enough to retain it, as for winning it I'm still not sure. My head and heart are telling me different things!

It amazes me how the players can block it out and ignore it. I sit on the couch telling them to shut the **** up so to be within ear shot of it must be very annoying.

If (when!) I am a pro and some flute shouts "MASHED POTATO" when I tee off, I'd don't think I would be able to stop myself from sending him down the fairway after the ball with a kick in the arse.

They had 6 rookies in 08 and won easily.

Think the US will win but it will be close, can't see Kaymer beating any of the US team on current form and think big Nick Colsearts will find the going tough in the US as a rookie, will be easier for the US rookies as they are on home soil. Paul Lawrie is also technically a rookie seeing that he hasn't played in this event since 99 and also plays hardly any golf in the US. We are lucky though to have 3 very good pairings:
    1. Rory/Gmac
    2. Westwood/Donald
    3. Rose/Poulter
These 6 players will play all 5 matches and I would put a bet on that so will Sergio but not sure who you'd pair him with.

Or maybe bring back the old Westwood/Garcia pairing and put Donald with Colsaerts or Lawrie.

Wouldn't be a fan of Westwood and Garcia as their strengths are too similar but Donald and Colsearts might work, Donald would find himself in places he would never be in the golf course, approx 40 yards ahead of his drives! But still think the 3 pairing's I have outlined will be definites and then I personally would go for Hanson & Lawrie so as to get our strongest out first and get off to a good start!

Same table I did on the other thread but with the Fourballs and Foursomes separated out.

A lot of the US team have very poor records indeed. Sergio has to be the all time best with only two losses in 19 matches!

    Team EUROPE|Total (W-L-H)|Fours (W-L-H)|Singles (W-L-H)|Win Ratio

I think he'll mix it up a wee bit more than that; Day 1 Foursomes I would expect those 3 pairs with Garcia & maybe Molinari
After that I think Olly will look to give everyone a game which means he'll have to rotate quite a bit to keep his strongest 4 (Rory, Donald, Rose & Westwood) out as much as possible. That said Westwood was in shocking form at the tour Champs last weekend so he might not play all 5.
Colsaerts is a good matchplay player, I think he'll see action in the Fourballs especially, pair him with someone conservative so he can let fly.
Kaymer is the one everyone is worried about.

I think we need a 3/4 point lead going into the Sunday, I think the US will blast us off the park in the singles

Tiger's record isn't as bad as everyone makes out is it? At that rate he is a guaranteed 3pts over the course fo the event, I would take that for every player!
    endabob1 wrote: »

Again, both are poor putters so that's why I reckon we have seen Garcia paired with Lawrie for practice as Paul has been in fine form on the greens!

Think the days of rookies not knowing what to expect are gone, certainly in America.

Previously players(mainly European) may never have played in the States and may not be used to the crowds but if you look at the 4 American rookies:

    Bradley: Major Champion
    Simpson: Major Champion
Snedeker: Fedex Champion and 2 wins this year
Dufner: 2 wins and a runner up this year, also in a major playoff

When you look at who they have left out it is clear they won't have an issue with rookies standing up to the test

I calculate his stats at 2 points. His win ratio is about 45% and if he plays all five matches that's just over 2 points. His halved matches are too small to be statistically relevant.

I think I see another column being added to that table :)

My apologies, I was looking at the loss column as being the halved matches, so in actual fact for the No. 1 golfer in the world when he was playing all of his previous Ryder Cups, his record is not great is it?

    Add another column, I love stat's :p

    Column added :)

Pretty impressive stats when looked at that way. A lot of the European guys are well over 50%, and only a handful under that. Rory McIlroy!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭JCDUB

Westwood and Donald shot 59 in the fourball practice yesterday lads, superb shooting, surely they'll get a look-in together?

Also Gmac and Rory will be out together, and with a bit of luck we might see Rory and Tiger in a singles show-down.

Americans have set themselves up as favourites, which suits us. Also, fairways are cut wicked wide apparently, which Olly was happy about.

I think they'll do it for Seve!!

12:30pm on Sky (or so the almost omnipresent ads on Sky tell me )

Predictions are always going to be difficult with so many rookies on the USA team, but I feel that with Europe's singles record, we have to be at least 3 ahead going into the singles.

He did play great in '99 but it's been so long for him that I reckon it'll be like a new experience. He also had a semi-final at the volvo world matchplay. I hope he does well because he is a likeable character.

    Skysports coverage @ 12.30 Foursomes & @ 6.30 for Fourballs

Looking forward to this so much. Had convinced myself all year that the USA would walk it but now I really do think Europe can do it. I really feel if we can go into Sunday with a 3 point lead we can at least retain the cup.

Going to be a great few days either way, set up for an excellent few days of golf.
