    Hi All, first post here.

Does anybody know when the air france 747 does be in dublin? its a regular route? Also, do any MD DC-10s ever go through dublin any more?

    Cheers.

Usually around 10am every few Saturdays, but I think it's been replaced with a 777.

you can see it on schedule on Flightstats.com, flight number is AF 6735, and yes, its pretty much 777 all the time now

to save your time - arrives 8.30, departs 10.40 Saturdays only, as usual - these flights are subject to delay so check flightstats.com before leaving your house to see it

They used to regular a regular visitor , it's a cargo flight.

I think now it's often another type.

I have seen it pretty often along with a Singapore one ( also cargo )

Well in fairness to dancer14......they did state last '10 years' so can't really include the EI B747's.

Over the last 10 years the only scheduled B747 services into DUB were the Singapore Cargo flights and currently the AirFrance Cargo flights which alternate between B747F/B777F.

There have been a small number of charter/ad hoc services (including AF1 last year) as well a quite a number of diversions over the year. For the record the snow diversions 2 years ago were 2 B747 and a Virgin A346 (an an AA B777 or B767?)

In the photo section there is a picture of an air France 747 cargo at EIDW as recently as the 13th of this month.

Okay I know the 744 is a spoof but the 738's look real, look at the reflection on the wet apron. So question is why are FR at T2?

This photo was presumably taken last year when EI suspended 1/3 of their cabin crew for working to rule.
You can see a European Airpost B733 at the end of the pier. I assume the B747 was operating a T/A charter for EI.....not sure who it coudl be though.

    Wasn't that 74 really a British Airways one ?

Looks like a doctored BA B744.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,576 ✭✭✭lord lucan

That was a BA 744 that had diverted to DUB due to snow at LHR in December 2010. The FR 738's were just parked up as Pier E hadn't begun full EI ops at that time so in effect it was acting like extra remote stands.

    Here's the original.

And this was during Feb 2011 during the EI industrial action.

What are the two Royal Brunei planes doing in Dublin? Some sort of charter? As they don't do TATL op's. They are a long way from home.

Indeed, you can see it when you zoom in, they have pretty similar liveries especially when viewed from a distance though!

I remember seeing a Saudia B747SP make a visit here, a good many years ago. In the old colours.. Oh, and the Qantas B747 classics made an appearance for maintenance. I have also seen the State of Qatar bring in a B747SP, athough that was about 5-6 years ago!

I saw that , now you come to mention it.

I remember back in the70's / 80's , I was a spotter at LHR , we used to catch the EI 747 at Xmas for the rush home , along with virtually anything that had wings and engines , this was pre FR.

I also remember seeing a 747 depart from dublin i'd say about 15 years ago. Im almost certain it was a DHL one in the old red/white livery. Does that sound right?
That visit to the airport is what kicked off my interest in aviation so i wouldnt have known much at the time.:)

What was the purpose of the 747 SP ?

High density short haul in Japan i believe.

Sorry for the vague questio,n what in most peoples opinion is the most impressive airplane that flies in and out of dublin on a regular service? Work not far from the airport somedays and might get along to see one of the bigger ones.

I take it the best viewing spot is along the road that runs parallel to the runway? Seems to be plenty of space to park

Probably the Emirates 777-300. Saying that though its not as big as you expect it to be when viewing it from the Old Airport Road I thought when I first saw it.

Otherwise the 757's. Always had a thing for them.

What was the purpose of the 747 SP ?

The SP was Special Performance. It was a lower passenger load, but ultra long range. It was a stubby fuselage, but slightly (about two feet) taller at the fin.

The high density for the Japan commuter market was the SR (Short Range).

It's first customer was actually South African Airlines ( and Pan AM of course ) IIRC , the reason being they were not allowed to fly over ANY African nation at the time . So the route from LHR to South Africa was quite a challange.

( well off thread sorry )

How far in advance do you know if a 747 is due to arrive in Dublin? Would like the kids to see one landing (and taking off).

This Saturday's Air France freighter is likely to be a 747F, as today's westbound service CDG-ORD is showing as a 747 (F-GIUA). This link will show the ORD-DUB flight's status tomorrow morning: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AFR6735

It normally is an early arrival. Possible that the aircraft went tech in ORD which delayed its departure. It's currently over Cavan as i type.

FlightRadar Pro (the iPhone App) has it as ORD to CDG but it is descending and slowing so looks like it is coming into Dublin alright.
