    Hi

Myself and three friends would like to learn to sail as a group. Are there regular lessons available from October onwards or is it just a summer sport?

Any info about possible clubs to join, costs etc would be great. None of us have any experience.

    Thanks :)

Hi hopefullegal have a look here you might find something http://www.sailing.ie/Training/AllISACourses.aspx and here http://www.irishsailingacademy.com/sailing-and-powerboat-courses/sailing-courses/

What part of the country are you in, most sailing clubs have training day's so it might be worth calling into one near to where you live.

    Best of luck.

I learned to sail this summer so I've picked up a fair bit of the "learning to sail" stuff.

    Where are you based?
    What ages are you?
What sort of comfort level are you looking for?*

You can learn to sail at this time of year, but it'll probably be at the weekend.

*what I'm wondering here is really what sort of boats you're thinking about sailing, or if you have any idea on that. Small boats are fun, but you'll get wet and need a wetsuit. Bigger boats are also fun, but maybe less dramatic, and you'll get splashed rather than wet.

    Thanks for the replies.

We live in Ranelagh so Dun Laoghaire is probably closest to us?
We're all in our mid 20s.
We're open to small or bigger boats tbh. Don't mind getting wet :)

    You could try http://www.insc.ie/

No connection etc, but they have a good reputation.

From your description, what you're looking for is either

    1) A basic dinghy course
    2) The 1720 keelboat course (sportsyacht course)

The dinghy course is small boats which you throw around the place. You'll be 1 or 2 to a boat, in the water a bit, wearing wetsuits. You'll be in the harbour or close to it.

The sportsyacht course would probably have four of you on the boat with an instructor. You'll be in wet weather gear, get splashed and wet, throw the boat around the place, but you won't end up in the water itself. You'll cover a fair bit of the bay, depending on the wind.

Both will be a lot of fun and in both cases you'll learn a huge amount about sailing.

The INSC seems to have both on weekends in October if you're looking for a weekend course. Outside of that, I know the George are planning to do a 1720 racing course in October/November which will be five Sunday mornings. They also run regular 1720 adult courses, not sure what their schedule is for the next while. You can email Michael at sailing at rsgyc.ie to find out.

As far as I know the Royal Irish also do adult 1720 courses, and I'm sure their website has contact information. Not sure about the other clubs.

Just to add - the George have just sent out their winter course schedule:
