As Beasty suggested, a place we can post without needing spoiler tags. Don't read any further if you're waiting for the highlights!

100km around the region then 10 laps of a 16.5km circuit containing the Bemelerberg and Cauberg climbs. Gilbert is favourite, followed by Sagan. Lots of big names, lots and lots of them.

    Rodriguez
    Voeckler
    Contador
    Gilbert
    Sagan
    Boonen
    Nibali
    Gerrans
    Boson Hagen

One of them will win it or make the podium. Can anyone think of any dark horses for it? Chris Froome and Dan Martin come to mind, though Moreno Moser has been flying all year as well

I'm really interested in seeing the Spanish team dynamics on the road. Dutch are on home ground - Ten Dam, Gesink, Terpstra.

    Ireland is
    200 MARTIN Daniel
    201 MC LAUGHLIN Ronan
    202 ROCHE Nicolas

Full list of riders available at http://inrng.com/2012/09/world-championship-road-race-preview/

Women's race was electric to watch, hoping the men's race can match it!

I think that was RMcL who was involved with Freier . I am watching on Rai and getting the junior race as well. All together in the juniors and the 3 irish in the depleted bunch. I think it will be a gallop.

ok its on Eurosport HD but will post anyway

Watching the Beeb ..but there is no commentary...just silence

    C'mon Dan, Nico and Ronan

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,679 ✭✭✭bcmf

The beeb are having major difficulties with commentary. Pity as enjoying listening to Millar

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,606 ✭✭✭MPFG

Cav doing a blinder at front

Sean Kelly says Irealnd will do no good as all too tired ...so that's that then

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,679 ✭✭✭bcmf

Rabobank The Dutch have hit the front and starting to light the fire.
Millar - 'You know when the Orange jersies hit the front its panic stations as they usually have info no one else has'
And with the coded signs on the road he may have a point.

Whats a realistic expectation of the Irish today?

What would be a good result

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,606 ✭✭✭MPFG

Don't want to jinx anything but we may be surprised ...in a good way that is

Dan Martin is the best hope as he does good at this distance ...a top 10 would be great

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,679 ✭✭✭bcmf

Cav's done. Worked his arse for most of the race.

Just tuned in, Froome, Cav and Wiggins already retired. They should have just stayed at home.

I'm starting to shout at the tv now. That Lativan rider has done nothing but sit on the rear on the lead group lap after lap now. Can't be playing a team card, as only one other Lativan in the race.

Dan and Nico both there in the first group at the end. Obviously had little left though as didn't feature in the finish.

To attack the Cauberg in the big ring after 265kms of racing  Awesome display of power! Great race and strongest rider and team won

Eddie will have his day in the future. Always difficult to beat the big teams when you are a minor cycling nation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,099 ✭✭✭morana

Great ride by McLaughlin to finish. The 2 "stars" did ok as well. much better than the Olympics.

Had the misfortune to watch a crime show from 1.30pm. Daylight robbery it was called but back over to the cycling and what a very good last few laps. stannard rode well degenkolb was excellent as well.
