    Evening all,

Just wondering if anyone has used Dr Niall Hogan for an ACL reconstruction?
Im waiting to here back from him with the possibility of a meeting within a few weeks.
This will be my 3rd reconstruction so im looking for a change in surgeons.
Any other names people would recommend could you post them on here.

    Thanks.

Yeah, that's the man! He's referred to as the top knee guy in the country by alot of knowledgeable people! I've heard it time & time again from physio's,Osteopath's & other body work therapists. Also one of my best mates is the engineer/rep/territory manager for Smith & Nephew who supply the arthroscopes for the clinic & has sat in on his surgeries! He says his technique is flawless. If it's your 3rd reconstruction you should be looking for the best!

Cheers for that, just trying to gather as much info as I can before I make any decisions.

there is very little difference between the different surgeons in terms of how the ACL is reconstructed. Some like to use the patella tendon while some use the hamstring tendon but the general jist of it is the same. Id say the main difference is your rehab programme after so I would recommend good after care and a good physio. I dont want to speculate but if this is your 3rd ACL tear you may be doing something that predisposes you to injury so its worth bringing it up with whatever surgeon you talk to

    Thanks for the reply,
I wouldnt fully agree with you about little differences between surgeons, but anyway ive had iso-kinetic tests done after my last operation and my operated leg which isnt my dominant leg came out stronger, but i will be looking into my rehab to see if i can make any more improvements.

Just an update for anyone that is interested.

I had my operation to repair my ACl.

I went with Niall Hogan after i met with him.

Had the surgery 5 weeks ago and all is going well.

He had to use the patella tendon as i have previously had hamstring grafts taken from both my legs.

Knee cap is still quiet soar but that seems to be normal.

Back on the bike this weekend with no problems.

cold water immersion will greatly help reduce inflammation and improve flexion

in other words, go stand in a lake for 10 - 20 minutes everyday.

I was going to buy one, they were around 100 for the one with the knee brace.

I got one from my physio in the end.
