Anyone know where I'd pick up a dock for an iPhone 5 in Dublin?
    (City centre or SCD, preferably...)

Need one for my Dad - can be one that just uses your existing lightening cable, or fancier. Whatever's available!

    Thanks :)

It wont be available but I did just receive the Elevation Dock for the iPhone 5. Its very nice!

It keeps the iPhone 5 in place a bit too tight, but thats due to the nature of the lightning connector

Got my wife to get me one of these as a christmas present. Waiting impatiently for it to arrive. How long did it take to get to you?

Just bought a second Lightning cable for work/car etc on Deal Extreme for €4 if anybody is looking for one.

Just to follow this post up.
Received the cable this morning and it charges my iPhone 5 and iPad 4 no problem.

Also got a 30 pin to lightning connector from http://www.cellphoneshop.net/ for 9.99 US dollars delivered!

I assume the 30 pin to lightning connector works fine ??

If your looking for a 30pin to lightning and you use a case or bumper you're better off getting something like this (the original apple 30pin/lightning adapter usually doesn't fit without removing case/bumper): http://dx.com/p/usb-30-pin-data-charging-cable-30-pin-female-to-lightning-8-pin-male-adapter-for-iphone-5-white-170095?utm_source=dx&utm_medium=albums&utm_campaign=8-pin-lightning (this one actually comes with a usb/30pin cable as well, but weirdly it's the cheaper option on DX).
Ordered a couple of things for my iPhone 5 and iPad mini of dx.com and they arrived within 2 weeks (free shipping on any order, no minimum spend). Seems smaller parcels arrive quicker than big (more expensive) orders...
    Here's a load of lightning options (cables/chargers/docks/adapters):
    http://e.dx.com/collection/201212/pin-lightning/index.html?utm_source=dx&utm_medium=albums&utm_campaign=8-pin-lightning

Being buying from dx for years now. Average shipping time from order to delivery for me is 3-4 weeks. Great site :D

    3-4 weeks?
If I don't have it within 3 days off Amazon I get pissed.

You'd want to check the price on dx.com first, it's worth the wait. Like I said they ship anything for free, no matter how cheap, it has to come from china though so yes it takes a while...

I wouldn't order anything I need ASAP, just bits and pieces tbh.
The price is worth the wait IMO.

Went with 3 cables and a dock for the same money as one apple cable.

Should be good when they arrive

Just went onto DX to check out the "lightening" stuff... bought a basic dock for my Dad and somehow managed to spend another 20 quid on random, non-iPhone stuff!

    Mmmm torches.

Just received my 3rd dx torch (with 3 Cree XM-LT6 LEDs, you know what that means if you're a torch nerd), think I might need help...

Bought me an Otterbox Defender from Amazon last Tuesday, it arrived on Wednesday! I expected to have the phone on Friday but there's been some delays so I haven't had a chance to use my new case yet but it looks good :D

I have a defender on my 5 and its good, a lot better than the iPhone 4/4s defender.

Does the Defender make the iPhone very bulky? I need a good case as I am very clumsy but I don't want it to be too bulky either.

It's very big yeah, if I didn't work on site I wouldn't have one but it is a great piece of mind having it on while working. My pockets always get gritty and dirty so the covers for the charger and headphone jack are great

I have 2 iPhone 5's - one in a defender and one in a commuter and I have a moshi ivisor on the one in the defender and find the commuter perfect for non site work.

  • Registered Users Posts: 947 ✭✭✭Shzm

Ive been researching both recently, and went with the commuter in the end. Seems like it'll provide great protection while not adding too much bulk like the defender. Theres some good youtube vids comparing the two.

I have the case mate tough case and I find it protects just as good as the otterbox commuter but its not as bulky. I got it in Carphone warehouse and is recommend it

Ordered the bookbook for my ip5..really wanted the black as the white ip5 looks well but you can only get it directly from 12south in the US so I'd be hit for customs as well bring the total to over 75-80 euros.
Bit the bullet and got the brown from apple.ie
I decided against a standard case as I love the feel of the iphone 5 and just intend to be a bit more careful with it..plus as this guy was saying..putting a case onto the iphone 5 is blashemy in his opinion :D probably has about 20 of them though ;)
so basically the bookbook is just a means of transport for my iphone and cash etc.. anytime I need to use it I'll just take it out

    Hey

What is the cheapest place to get iPhone 5 covers?

    Not online.

    Tks

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,427 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

You pay well over a tenner in any of the shops from what I've seen.
There's a few guys selling them on ebay from Ireland and I've ordered a few that came the following day..very happy with them and gotten 3-5 for 2 or 3 euro. There's no shop going to match that :D

Monoprice seem to have confirmed that they'll be selling lightning cables. For anyone not familiar with them, they sell their own, high quality cables. I've seen a few places break them down and say that their 30 pin iPhone cables were at least as good as Apple sold, though I wouldn't have a clue whether that's true. I will say, though, that I've never had a single fault with a Monoprice cable, which is a good start.

Great deal on Lightning to 30-Pin Adapter and Three-Metre iPhone 5 Charging Cable - 13€ for the two.

    http://www.livingsocial.com/cities/1677-national-ireland/deals/586534-lightning-to-30-pin-adapter-and-3m-charging-cable

Just ordered mine, you do have to pay for shipping but its only 4euro.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,196 ✭✭✭flyguy

www.dx.com seem to have lowered some prices, you can now pick up lightning cable or a 30pin-to-lightning adapter for $3.30 (=€2.45) so less than €5 for both with free shipping (don't tell me the living social are genuine apple cables 'cause they're not). Also I wouldn't go for the adapter if you have a case cause it won't fit in 99% of the cases. You're better of getting the adapter with the bit of cable in between the connectors like: http://dx.com/p/30-pin-female-to-8-pin-lightning-male-data-cable-for-iphone-5-ipad-mini-ipod-touch-5-black-177325

I also LOVE this case. It's classy and it is really nice as a way of holding the phone while reading it and texting etc. Fold it back to talk. Love it.
