So is anyone interested in dinner and drinks?

It would be nice to have a big crowd which is why I am giving plenty of notice by suggesting the weekend of Friday/Saturday 12th/13th of October.

So if you are interested please reply here with:

Dinner and/or drinks and what date suits you.
If you are going for dinner maybe post what kind of food you like?

For me it's dinner and drinks on either day.

I like everything except fish but my favourite would be Indian or Thai.

I will sign up for that! Could be due to the fact I am starving hungry while writing this but what the hell - any reason is good :D

Any day, any restaurant good for me at this stage.

I'm up for this. I work Friday nights so Saturday is best for me.

The food I like? Lobster and caviar :D

I'm not sure if I'll be in town that weekend but I'd be up for drinks if I am. I'm supposed to be going somewhere but it's weather dependent, so given Irish weather, I'll probably be around. :)

I'd be on for dinner and drinks. The Friday night maybe. I prefer general restaurants like the Club Brasserie, Soho, etc, don't like Indian!!!

My Mrs is off that weekend...So either night would suit.

If a definite plan and venue is sorted,,We'd like to be added to the list if that's ok?

Would be Our first Boards meet.

    My Mrs is a Vegetarian.

But if the food can't be sorted,,can always meet after for drinks..

Put me on the definite list (pref Sat but either night is fine).

Kinda a newbie, have been lurking this forum nearly 3yrs, haven't gone to any of the meet ups but always have good intention too - this sounds good.

Any type of food is fine with me.

    See you all then.

    .

Well it will be somewhere in the city centre.
Right now as two people said Saturday preferred and nobody else cares it would make more sense to go for Saturday ....

As for food maybe we can go somewhere that is not too 'niche' if that makes sense? i.e. only serves fish, only serves curry....

I know Soho is often a popular choice ... any objections to Soho ? (We went there before as a group and I think everyone liked it ...) there is also a big bar downstairs where the people who are not eating could meet us ?

    Soho Menu is here:

    http://www.soho.ie/assets/PDFs/SoHo-Dinner-Menu.pdf

Mr. Frisp, you said that your partner is a vegetarian, maybe you can show her this menu and see if there is something she would like?

If anyone has any other suggestions for good places to eat then please share them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,257 ✭✭✭MrFrisp

    Hi KingTut..

No sweat there....There's a few Fish options,so she defo won't complain.

We'd have no complaints with the venue,,but still open to other suggestions.

I can vouch for Soho, very extensive menu which would mean everybody can be catered for. Have eaten here a few times. Club Brasserie is also very nice, but Soho may be a better bet for the reasons given above.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,516 ✭✭✭Outkast_IRE

Can i get added as a maybe at the moment and i will confirm nearer :D

Im easy going either night will suit and any type of food

I will chime in and say soho is a good option if we need a wide variety menu to suit everybody , they literally do a bit of everything.

Have been to only one boards night 2 years ago and havent got a chance to go again things kept croping up everytime there was one on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,302 ✭✭✭Cadyboo

Soho has gone to the dogs. Its really not worth the money. The last two times I have been I was not happy with the food at all. Tasteless. Thats just my 2cents. The only thing that is nice are the wings.

:o And because I have slated that choice I will throw in some options. Have never been to electric and would like to try it. Or the bierhalle (know ye went there last time though kingtut, but id love a krombacher ;)) Or somewhere nice and big like luigi malones? Or......hillbillys:D

Yummmmmmmmmm Bierhalle , have been there 3 times and was always happy.......... Beers and food thats nice with beer whats not to love.

If the number going all pan out it would be like a private function that night ... a boardsies night taking over the place.... im sure they would cut us a nice deal if we asked nicely

Im glad you said it about soho as i used to go there more often a few years ago and i went 6 months ago and they have left the quality slip in the kitchen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,302 ✭✭✭Cadyboo

Definitely. And it is so overpriced. Last time I was there they had a prawn dish on the specials and it was 26euro!!! I ordered the wings and got a big rigmarole from the waiter about the sauce not being very hot (i wanted insane) and they couldnt help it as it was the suppliers told them that the peppers at this time of year are not that hot. I was like WTF!!:eek:
Anywho it all depends on what day ye decide on as I have an engagement party I might have to go to on the saturday night.

So Soho has gone downhill ? Well I'd be happy with Bierhalle also.
For anyone curious the menu is here:

    http://www.thebierhallecork.com/_downloads/Bierhalle%20Main%20Menu.pdf
    (opens a pdf)

Based on previous posts I think that we can settle on the date of Saturday 13th of October unless there are any objections ??

    Well,,the Bierhalle really looks tempting...

And,not that I was going to complain,,but the prices are nearly half that of SoHo. Talking about overrated.

Saturday night wouldn't be any problem to Us..

Was at luigi malones last week and the food was amazing, and the prices aren't that bad anymore thankfully! There's also Curran's, haven't been there in a while. Or Amicus/Scoozi's or any of the yummy italian restaurants off oliver plunkett st :D

Also Market Lane very nice or Gambienis is very good price wise. Lots of room in Gambienis upstairs too.

    Hi
Thanks for the invitation and would love to join you all, I'm definitely a newbee but see some others are around too!
The only place I have eaten in cork so far is the Soho when I was doing the Ladies mini marathon and did think it was overpriced... but I'm happy with any choice... (though not a fan of very spicy food)

    Thanks
