It's that time of year again :D

Sprinter Sacre to start off in the Tingle Creek according to Chemical
"He may well take the conventional route of Tingle Creek, Victor Chandler, Game Spirit and, all being well, the Champion Chase," Henderson said at his open day for owners.

"The way he travels and jumps is testament to his pure class and the only problem is curtailing his enthusiasm in the early part of a race when the opposition simply does not go fast enough for him.

On a sadder note looks like Spirit Son may not race again after a neck injury. The lay money was being hoovered up on Betfait 2 days before the announcement

Also reading OJA I read that Great Endeavour was killed over the summer :(

Cant wait for it lads, the flat generally bores me bar the Arc and Champions Day.
Very sad about Spirit Son and Great Endeavour.

Any news on Master Minded or is he totally finished?

I thought it was case that he'll live to enjoy his retirement but will never race again

Not sure if it's been officially confirmed though

    Thanks be to fcuk!

Sad news about Spirit Son though. So many great young horses never get to reach their potential. All signs pointed to him being a bit special. That demolition of Cue Card at Aintree certainly was

+1000. It's been a boring 'summer'. Hope they don't put KS out again this year though.

    Thank god its nearly back.

Chepstow is the generally accepted start of the proper jumps season, isn't it?

Some say Chepstow. Some say the Charlie Hall. Personally, I regard the Open meeting at Cheltenham to be the start of National Hunt proper.
The cold crisp air, the last race at dusk, the cross-country, the wooly hats and tweed jackets, hot-whiskeys and sausage baps...cant wait :D

Not a bad maiden hurdle at Listowel tomorrow

Pique Sous takes on Mumbo Jumbo, Ted Veale & Our Vinny

Kerry National on too of course!

I wasn't going to attend the Open this year but after reading that description, how could one not attend? My Mrs will be delighted when I break the news this evening....:)

Seriously considering going again this year myself because of this post. It sums up what I love about racing.

Back In Focus the 1st serious prospect to be unleashed this season

I don't mind watching the flat but the buzz of a horse going to the last hurdle/fence not knowing what there going to do when they get there is something flat racing will never have. Good to hear Weapon's Amnesty and Solwhit are back in fitness and back on track for this season.

On the other hand Alan King has lost a couple of decent horses for the season in Invictus and Batonnier.

    Bring on the Open meeting:D

It's a hard one to call, but for me it's the start of the P2P. This year, 29th September.

I would love to se both those horses get back to their peak but dont believe it will happen.

Alan King has really declined in recent years. Been overtaken by McCain, Hobbs, Sherwood and others. Can barely think of a decent horse he has....Montbazon ?

The two he lost are no great shakes either tbf.

Will Sprinter Sacre / Quevega / Big Bucks get a race this year? Exciting times lie ahead !

Cant wait to see Sprinter Sacre. Although i think Sanctuaire will put it upto him.

    I'll post this here too:
    Hennessy on Hidden radar

Hidden Cyclone could make his first appearance of the season in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury.

Trainer John Hanlon reports his exciting prospect to be in "savage" form ahead of a second campaign over fences.

The seven-year-old had just two runs last term, making a winning chasing debut before finishing a close third to Sir Des Champs at Leopardstown in January.

Hanlon then put Hidden Cyclone away with the idea of bringing him back for an ambitious programme that he hopes will culminate in a crack at the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup.

"He's been back in for about six weeks doing bits of work and you'll probably see him at the end of October or November," said the County Carlow trainer.

"He's in savage form. He got very strong towards the end of last season and I'm very happy with him.

"We are playing it by ear and something like the Hennessy at Newbury (December 1) might be an aim for us. I would say we might go straight there.

"We won't be 100% for it, but we just want a nice run and hope he will be a Cheltenham horse in March. Hopefully everything goes to plan."

What about grumeti and balder success ?

Can't wait to see solwhit over fences...very excited to see what he has..one of the most underrated horses of recent times in my opinion.

Also I have no doubt in my mind cinders and ashes and darlan will be mixing it flawlessly with the big boys this year.

C and A won the supreme after absolutely flattening 2 hurdles...I can only imagine what distance he would have won by had he not .

I can see Donald McCain having a cracking season.

Gigginstown horse going In the bumper up north tomorrow, taking on one of Willie's

Sea Of Thunder entered in a beginner's chase Sunday but surely won't run if the rain keeps coming

I dont think he will murder him. Sanctuaire is a brilliant jumper and will go flying off in front. If he gets Sprinter Sacre off the bridle you dont know if he will find. Hope Sprinter Sacre wins but i dont think he will murder him.

    Here we go again.....

First thing's first (just in case someone tries to shove it down my throat after the tingle creek) if you were to bet evs each of 2 Sprinter Sacre and Sanctuaire I'd be backing Sprinter Sacre. However....

Sanctuaire was a very smart hurdler on his day, and in his pomp was rated 5lbs higher in that sphere than SS. He lost the plot somewhat however, there were numerous times I thought he'd run well for him to flop, but Nicholls never seemed to lose faith

His record over fences is 3-3 when he's blitzed the opposition each time. He has won 2 chases at Sandown, even if one was an egg and spoon race. While his end of season romp may have been slightly accentuated by some horses being OTT had SS done that people would be wetting themselves now. He beat Somersby (a grade 1 winner) 17l with French Opera another 5l back

I will repeat, bet the match evs each of 2 in the Tingle Creek and I'm on SS but to totally dismiss Sanctuaire is ludicrous

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,142 ✭✭✭akelly02

100% agree with Colonel Sanders. Just something to think about lads. Cue Card was still within a few lengths of SS coming to the last in the arkle..he only started going away the last 100 or so yards...i can safely say Sanctuaire would beat Cue Card 10 lengths every day of the week and twice on Sunday

Exactly SS is my favourite horse and i hope he wins well. But i just think Sanctuaire will give him a big test. Sanctuaire e/w at 8's looks a better bet to me.

Listened to Mick Firzgerald give his 6 to follow for the NH season on ATR today

Among them Last Instalment. Said it was wise of connections to "skip Cheltenham" last season. Someone obviously forgot to tell him the horse was injured & some commentators have wondered out loud if he'll recover from such a serious injury

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

Sea Of Thunder makes a successful chase debut. Serious punt too was 2nd favourite this morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,438 ✭✭✭Morgans

Byrnes only gambles those with tonnes in hand. Davy Russell saved punters bacon, but would be surprised if he doesnt end up Grade 1 standard. Looked a very good jumper apart from the mistake.

Looked quite a good horse last year until running poorly in the Albert Bartlett

I'd say connections couldn't believe their luck with the ground

Plenty short enough, 5/4 from 6/4

Art of Logistics looks interesting in the bumper at Roscommon. Form of his punchestown effort took a boost over the summer with Cul Baire winning a couple. Trainer/Jock combo won the bumper yesterday (albeit by a very short head :)). Stable in form. Not a wild price but 11/4 does look tempting.

ALBERTAS RUN is fit and well after a summer break and could follow a similar path to the last few seasons with his campaign set to start in the Betfred Monet's Garden Old Roan Chase at Aintree on October 27, according to connections.

China Rock, Sizing Europe, First Lieutenant, Forpady & Joncol all line up in Gowran tomorrow.

The 5th place horse from the Cheltenham bumper goes in a 2m 4 maiden hurdle. Nigel Twiston Davies horse who was 6th won just this week

That NTD horse was very impressive

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,873 ✭✭✭RichieLawlor

Sad to see that plank Twiston Davies bringing Imperial Commander back. He's rising 12 and has had a serious injury. And tbh he's no Kauto Star, let him enjoy his retirement. I'd hate to see something go wrong.

Also Nicholls and Clive Smith better hurry up and retire the GOAT before they harm him aswell.

Can't wait to see Simonsig devour a fence, I hope they aim him at the arkle

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

Chanced a small bet on Joncol at 10/1

Ground & trip should really suit. Sizing is rarely wound up 1st time, neither are Mouse Morris' & both his (especially First Lieutenant) would surely prefer better going

Going at Gowran today is good?

I'm a big First Lieutenant fan but I have it in my head that he is better going left handed. I know he won a bumper around Gowran before but he has disappointed at Cork and Fairyhouse (twice) in the past.

Bet365 still putting up major gaffs on Irish racing when pricing up Sunday's races on Saturday (as was the case last year)

5/2 Rebel Fitz & 2/1 Whateverjacksays didn't last long. Powers opened Rebel Fitz at 11/10

FWIW I backed Thousand Stars at 4/1 so not gloating over prices I've managed to nab

Cannot wait to see Fingal Bay. Followed him since his bumper win & have always been impressed by him. I recall when he took the hurdle nearly out of the ground in the Open meeting and still went on to win - which was no mean feat. He'll need to have more respect for fences if he wishes to stay upright.
