    Hey, just a thought after reading some threads on after hours. In addition to the thanks button there could be another button to either rate the comment down, or a GTFO button, opposite of thanks button etc.

    This has been done ad nauseum in Feedback. You'll find many threads in there even as far back as March 2010. The general consensus is that it's too open for abuse, rather the same principle that Facebook cite for not having a dislike button.

    Until that consensus in the community changes we probably won't be spending any time modifying the thanks function :)
