If you want to spend the extra on a Gibson, which would certainly have its own merits, there are better options than the Classic Custom. You could get a new Traditional for that kind of money at the moment, depending on colour.

A certain gibson dealer told a friend of mine Tokai are like good epiphones!! He would wouldn't he!!

Depends on the Tokai whether made in Japan, China, Korea
I think the Japanese ones will definitely be on par with Gibson

    I don't believe that one!
The Chinese Burny I had was an improvement on Epiphone quality
My Orville jr was better than its Gibson equivalents
Ive played a few Tokais but never did a side by side comparison.

At present Ive 2 Gibsons so I'm not biased, a good guitar is a good guitar no matter what name is on it.

I've been looking hard lately. I had the cash in hand for a brand new studio, then i saw this..

I chickened out in the end, but it looks unreal. It would be twice my budget to buy gibsons equivalent. I noted that some of the tokais on that site had quilted maple or sycamore "tops"s, as distinct from "caps". I'm not sure I like that idea.

Can anybody tell me about the new Epiphone Nighthawk? I was looking to buy it for my second guitar (got my first handed down to me) and it seemed to have the best specs for the money, and I'm on a low budget. If not, what else should I be looking at for 300 euro?

nice one ash, you'll have to post a picture!

do you find the p90's hot pickups?

privilidged to play a very expensive old les paul with them in it recently and the pickups were really hot and the guitar had sustain forever.

surprisingly wide range with the p90..turn off the tone and it's pure classic fuzz!
At a push i might try a bareknuckle p90, saw one on youtube in a jnr and it was an unbelieveable lead sound!

Make you shield it & then ground the shielding , It will eliminate most of the hum
Gibson P 90s are excellent pickups, I'd give it a chance before splashing out on the BK
Raising the dogear with a few small washers should improve the tone, worth a bit of tinkering

"Vintage" from John Hornby Skewes. The Slash model and the Peter Green model are supposed to be very good guitars. Even the V100 standard model is supposed to be not bad for the buck. Off point of the original post, but supporting and relevent to my remarks about "vintage" guitars, I played the strat model in this video:

Was as good as any Mexican, Korean or Japanese Fender guitar so i can attest that this brand are not just good for the money you pay for them, they are just good guitars. I am willing to believe what I have heard about the Les Paul models by this brand. Any of the Japanese brands like Burny and Orville are supposed to be good too.

Haven't pushed the duncans enough to get a good feel, but it's a savage guitar, looks great too. Fast neck, chambered body, so isn't heavy and sustains for ever! got it for €550

Edwards are really good guitars. (sadly no connection to me!)

you don't see a lot of them outside japan......
