My 10 year old wanted to start a website on his favourite passtime at the moment, which is Minecraft the game.

I was explaining to him that to setup a website involves a lot of work and also costs some money due to hosting and domain name buying for whatever address he would like to use.

Therefore i suggest he starts off with a blog where he could just post up pictures and embed youtube videos etc.

Problem is i dont know which blog site he should start on as i have no experience of this at all.

The only thing i can think of is wordpress, but i dont even know where to start with him.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

You could try www.blogger.com - a lot simpler than Wordpress, just go to the site and follow your nose, no need for software etc.

But the age limit is 13, so you would need to do the work with him on your account. Actually, I'd suggest setting up a dedicated account (with your age etc) and then give him the password once he's 13 (if he still cares about it).

Ha ha! so true... i was thinking he might lose interest some day! :D

Hence i was kinda thinking a free blog site over hosting and domain charges out of my pocket :D:D:D

Thanks for that... will look into the blogger site so.

Would that particular site be popular/easy enough to start on in general?

Edit: scrap that last question... just clicked on it and spotted its a google blog site, so id say no need to worry about it being popular!

Happy days, will work on that so with him.

    Thanks for the help.

    Cool.

This is my getting-started notes re Blogger: http://blogger-hints-and-tips.blogspot.com/2010/05/getting-started-with-blogger.html

You've already had my advice about getting a dedicated account, but might like to think about privacy controls etc.

    Hope you both have fun.

I assume you're going to pre-vet every post he puts up? And any contact details will go to an account that only you have access to?

I know with wordpress you can set it up so that any comments on blog posts have to be pre-vetted by an admin account, you should also do that if it's possible with blogger.
