I go every year. Not sure i will be able to make it this year. Very informative though and a great day out. Best of all you can bring your pet and chat to other owners.

Is it better than the Pet Expo in Mallow this year? The Mallow one was OK, but could've done with more stalls and more people showing their pedigree dogs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,003 ✭✭✭SillyMangoX

The mallow show was part of a home and garden show and from what I heard it didnt have half the stuff there. The one in punchestown is a stand alone show so it should be much better :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,411 ✭✭✭ABajaninCork

Yeah. Just debating whether to load up wagon and dog to go to Punchestown from Cork...

It was a bit crap last year compared to the year before imo so hopefully there'll be more space and free stuff this year. God last year I was going to buy cheap Robbies and vet bed ready for crate rest! The year has flown by!

It says on the website Punchestown. I assume this is the racecourse?

Yay! Another opportunity to see Cooper the big loveable cuddlemonster :D

I'm the girl who recognised him at the Paddy's Day show!! I've recognised so many dogs from boards IRL that it's bordering on sad :o

Are puppies welcome at this and where do you buy tickets?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,822 ✭✭✭Morf

Oh dear. I just had a look through the World of Cats" section and now I'd like several pedigree cats. 3 cats is probably enough though.

Yep as long as they're vaccinated - they tell you to bring the vaccination card but I've never been asked for it. You can buy tickets online In advance or there on the day.

I'm hoping to get out to this this year- I've never been. In two minds about bringing the woof though- he's tiny (chihuahua cross) and gets a little nervous in crowds so don't think it'd be worth putting him through the stress. I've a doggy carry bag for him but I only use that if I have to get a taxi with him, don't think he'd like to be carried around for an hour or two in it :p.

wow i really want to go to this, it looks awesome. My baby pug is only half way to house training at the moment thow..not sure i fancy bringing a mop. Think ill have to leave her behind

Yeh it can be very tiring for young pups so it's easier to leave them behind although at the same time it's a great oppertunity to expose them to crowds and other animals and all that. I always thought pet strollers (why do I say strollers..they're buggies)..anyhoo..always thought they were a bit of a barmy idea but last time we went we could of really don't with one. Even though our Pap is fully grown (2 at the time) he got very tired (he's a country boy not used to the hussle and bussle of a city) and carrying him around for hours was no fun (for hubby) even he (think he's lost the plot when it comes to the Pap) thought a stroller would be a great idea for trips like pet expos.

...Have to agree there and maybe Santa Paws will get one for him....

:Di want to bring a bike with one of those tents on wheels behind it... people use them for kids and dogs...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,985 ✭✭✭Dunny

Where would you be cycling from? :D I think we should get a sponsorship going for Papillon :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,000 ✭✭✭andreac

We used to use one of those for transporting our two when they were (much) smaller. If anyone wants it for 1-2 small/medium dogs (not exceeding combined weight of ~30 kg) they're welcome to it ;)

Thanks for the heads up on that...just exchanged 1500 Piggypoints for a pass so it's Pet Expo for free this year :D

My mam is refusing to bring the dog from Clare to punchestown in the car so I guess I have to resign myself to fawning over everyone elses dogs instead of parading around with my girl!

Might bring my rattie boys this year! Animal people usually are okay with the rodents :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,009 ✭✭✭SingItOut

I'd love to take moone with me this year, I couldn't last year because I wasn't sure she would be allowed on a bus.
As I don't drive I'll be taking the train up, can anybody tell me if the racecourse is near the train station or how long a taxi would take to get there?

Only a week to go, yay :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 854 ✭✭✭BullBauld

I'm gonna bring Rufus to this on Saturday. He's at the stage though where he just wants to cock his leg and have a pee on everything so don't stand too close :)
Do say hello though if you see myself and my Airedale.

Need to get a few bits too....car harness etc.

Will take in Kildare Village too...they have kennels there to leave your dog in while shopping so handy that.

    Looking forward to it.

anyone going from the city centre?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,512 ✭✭✭baby and crumble

I really want to go to this! I'd love to bring Isabella but she's only a little hamster and while she'd have a ball (she's very nosy and active!) I'd be terrified something would happen her! Be great to get to handle more rodents though, I really want to handle some rats, I think I want to get them next... Exciting!

You can get the train to Sallins. Think it goes from Heuston Station.

Theres a shuttle bus going from Naas too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,003 ✭✭✭SillyMangoX

I think the actual station is called sallins and naas :) does anyone know what exit would be best from the motorway coming from the other side of the country or is punchestown sign posted?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,000 ✭✭✭andreac

Are you coming up from the South on the N7? If so, just take the Naas exit, not the one that has Newbridge on it. The one closer to Dublin. The one where the big round ball is at. It should be signposted Naas/Sallins as far as i know.

Just checked Google maps for you there, its def Exit 9 and its sign posted Naas/Sallins.
