Maybe 3D films at no extra cost?

FYI as well; I didn't realise I had this, but it was in my junk mail folder; so check that out folks!

I got the email as well, and i just assumed it was a way to get everyone to get a new standard card.

Thought it was spam at first.

what this email say. i have the unlimited card which is fantastic by the way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

I got the email. Although a few card holders I spoke to have not. Perhaps only people who have been with them a certain time are getting the upgrade for free? (I've had a card for +2 years)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,592 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

Got the e-mail in my spam box as well. No details as to what it is. New card, anyway.

I'll be happy enough if we can book tickets online and get 3D films at no extra cost (even though I try to avoid the 3D versions as much as possible!).

I'd hazard a guess it's online booking (which'd be great!). Not having to pay extra for 3D movies would be a nice bonus too. I actively avoid 3D movies because of the charge.

The only reason I dont have an unlimited card is the online booking. If they managed to bring that out I would sign up straight away!

They used to have it but discontinued it because people would book and not show up so they were losing out on potential ticket sales.

I don't see why they'd bring it back in at this stage.

But if that's the only reason you should really sign up. The overwhelming majority of screenings don't sell out so it's just a case of showing up on time to ensure you get a seat. The only time it works against you is for big event releases like Batman or that if you want to go on the first night.

Besides that, the card is well worth it if you watch a lot of films. Saves you a heap of money.

Its the queuing that pains me. The screenings might not sell out but there anyways seems to be a queue to buy tickets so I just buy online and skip the queue.

Fair enough. It depends on how much you hate queuing really.

If you go to see 4 films a month at peak times that's 44 euro as compared to 20 euro. With an average queue time of 5 minutes or so around peak times that's 24 euro you've spent to save on 20 minutes queuing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,630 ✭✭✭The Recliner

The queues move pretty quickly in fairness to them as well

Online booking would be great as well very handy but even as it is currently the saving you can make on the card if you go regularly outweigh any downsides imo

To be honest I know im being pedantic and id prob see 6 or 8 films a month so the saving would be even greater. There is an element of laziness and I dont always go to Cineworld aswell.

I'm on my third annual card and I didnt get the mail :( (checked my spam folder) and in fact have noticed that I haven't been getting the "oh look at unlimted offers this month" emails for a while... hmmmm.

    Edit:
Okay So I called to see what the craic is, and its a loyalty for people who have had the card for over a year, as I am on my 3rd annual card... i.e. 3x1 year cards and not 1 card for 3 years I'm not eligible. Boo :( Seemingly if you ring them before your card expires you can renew, I thought you had to let it expire and apply again, as there is no option online for renewing. Didnt get info on what the benifits actually are... sorry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

That's odd Skinfull. mine's been autoupdating on its own. I'm sure you could weasel one from them if you could prove you've been with them for 3 years. Make a bit of a fuss. i'd imagine they'd relent rather than lose a good customer.
They used to have it but discontinued it because people would book and not show up so they were losing out on potential ticket sales.

I don't see why they'd bring it back in at this stage.

I was thinking a solution could be to charge people extra for uncollected tickets? That way people could use their cards to book online and Cineworld wouldn't be missing out on sales through 'taken' empty seats.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,417 ✭✭✭Miguel_Sanchez

I've had the same card for about 6 years and haven't been contacted about this at all.

Still though, it'd be nice if they actually stated what will/won't be available with it.

I've parked there for years and never had any bother -- no worse than anywhere else in the city.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,760 ✭✭✭Theta

Parking is only 6 euro for the whole evening anyway so you could be there from 6 till 1am and it would cost you less than euro an hour.

I wouldn't. A mate of mine had her car broken into while parked there once. Coulda been an isolated incident but I wouldn't all the same.

Strange that some others are not getting the email. I had a card for 2 years, cancelled for about a year and resubscribed only last October and I got an email. On the cineworld twitter feed it said that any customer thats subscribed for over 12 months will be upgraded so I'd ask them about it when the card comes out (if its even worth it!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,209 ✭✭✭maximoose

Hmmm, just found out about this and checked my spam folder, sure enough the email was there.

Checked my details, it gave me errors the first 3 times entering my card number but then on the 4th go (with exactly same details, wasn't making any errors) it let me in and I confirmed them all, said my card will be on its way in nov

Now trying to do the gfs card and it wont let me in at all damnit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,324 ✭✭✭✭Cathmandooo

I had deleted the email, I knew my newsletter came through to my inbox so when I saw it in my spam filter I assumed it was spam :D

Clicked on the link above and it wouldn't accept my card number, despite putting it in at least 10 times. I rang the helpline there and the man said it was just to update my details, nothing had changed though. Didn't get to change my picture so boo to that. Card should arrive in November with my lovely original webcam landscape photo in a portrait box?! Wohoo!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

My details were accepted first time. Cineworld must love me.

Hey guys, do u know if there's a way online to check which screen a particular showing will be in? i.e. I want to go to Screen 17 showings if possible regardless of the time.

If you go to book tickets does it not show what screen its on in? You obviously don't have to book any tickets but it's a handy way to check!

So any word on what this new card will actually do that's different to the old one?

Also want to know this. Would love one some time, if I thought the newer one was better. ie included imax or 3d.

How do you go about getting this upgrade.? Have my card 12years now I think I should probably get an honourary membership by now .

Are they actually in Dublin that long??

They announced today that those with the new card get 25% off food, drink etc and will not have to pay the surcharge on 3d films. Pretty good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭Sarxos

    And it's black!

Can new customers get this or just existing ones? MUCH better than the old card.

Also noted this on the announcment on FB page:

    "Just to clarify...

When advance/online booking goes live before the end of the year this will be for ALL Unlimited customers
All customers who have been with us over 12 months will receive a new black card whether you have received an email or not – if you have changed address please update with Unlimited Helpline to ensure you receive."

It seems advance booking will be making a comeback also and this will be available to ALL unlimited customers.

I hope the new digital IMAX screen will have the same 3D surcharge and will be avoidable with the new card (or preferably no surcharge whatsoever but thats wishful thinking)

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,110 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

I've seen you have to have a card 12 months to get this new deal, hence will never be buying the card in it's current form.

Also note 3d glasses are't included so hang on to yours!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,209 ✭✭✭maximoose

    Advanced booking, sweet!

Is this in Dublin? Haven't heard about it.

The new card sound good, especially no 3D surcharge. Also, advanced booking will be brilliant.

This actually sounds like a good deal... pretty happy with that!

Advanced Booking, thank f*ck. Nothing worse than wanting to see the very film NOBODY else wants to see, yet being stuck at the back of a huge queue, even though you're a "member".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Might be tempted to give some 3D movies a chance now that the surcharge is gone :)

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,282 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

So with advance booking, we can skip the queues and get the tickets from the machines? Cause that'd be fantastic.

Yeah, they posted it on their FB page a while back. Screen 17 will be closed for about 2 months and it'll be ready in time for The Hobbit release in December.

Pretty sure they said they will be sent out in November.
