    Hey,

I'm hoping to start into some jogging soon. It'll be a couch to half-marathon effort, will start a log when I get started.

Anyway I'm big into my gadgets and like the idea of documenting progress with some good data. I've seen on some logs people using a Garmin watch with attachments, I've also seen some Nike+ devices, also some mobile apps (I have an android mobile, but might be bit big to put on arm).

What have people tried and recommend?

    Thanks!

i've used the Garmin from couch to half...cant fault it never had issues...still use it today every week for running..and the HRM most sessions...

actually come to think of it...it was a very good investment..

What model is your Garmin? Assuming there's a range available!

Rather than getting a Garmin watch - wouldn't it be a good idea to get a Vodafone Smart android phone (€29.99) which has GPS, put it on an armband and run an app like Map My Run?

No, it'd be a good idea to get the piece of equipment specifically designed for the purpose!!

Why so if the above does the same thing and is much cheaper?

Well, it doesn't do the same thing. And you're the one that loves data.

The garmin software is highly specialized and gives great feed back.

    This.

I use endomondo on my "smart" phone. I also recently got a GPS watch because endomondo frequently fecks up. For example last weekend I ran 17 miles and endomondo took a bit of a skitso in the middle of it and ended up logging only 12. The watch has never let me down and I have logged 350 miles with it so far.

Digging up an old thread here but can anyone recommend a good/reliable but relatively basic and inexpensive HRM for power walking? Once I get my fitness up I intend to do some weight training as well so does anyone have a little device in mind that would fit these purposes! Cheers all! :)
