too much protein?

    how much protein in a day is too much?

    i thought my diet was healthy enough but I just put what I've been eating for the past few days into livestrong's myplate thing and apparently after lunch and breakfast i'm already at 55g protein.. quite a bit higher than my rda of 33g

    should I only have half a tin of tuna with my lunchtime salad? the tuna seems to be the biggest protein source so far in the day


    i've probably got the wrong tuna in the myplate calculator so i'm most likely not at 55g but either way i'm probably over my rda anyway and there's still dinner to go which I'll be loading up with broccoli,carrots and mushrooms.. maybe not incredibly protein heavy but i have a lot of them.


    am I fine to go over my protein allowance day by day?

    Yes go over it, the rda for protein on those things are stupidly low. How much you should have is somewhere in the stickies, I normally go by 1g of protein per 1lb lean body mass. I haven't worked out my LBM in ages but for me I get somewhere between 100g-140g.

    Yes, and it would be receommended to do so :)

    (recommended by people who are a lot more knowledgeable about RDA's than the people who put them together that is :D)

    For anyone who has healthy kidney function you'll be more than capable of breaking down significantly more protein in your daily diet than the RDA dictates.
