The second leg of the fed ex playoffs takes place at TPC Boston from Fri - Mon. Nick Watney took the first leg and shot straight to the top of the standings. The positions of the Irish players after leg one are:
Padraig Harrington (48), Rory McIlroy (4) & Graeme McDowell (33).

The top 70 in the standings after this leg will advance to the BMW Championship next week.

Luke Donald at 16/1 is my selection for this week. Top 10 last week and a joint 3rd finish here last year.

    MASHED POTATOES!

Won't be McIlroys week, he'll be busy consoling Caroline.

    Dustin Johnson for me.

I'm hoping Bradley makes a run and Simpson goes as close as he can to defending. My other two picks would be Snedeker & Harrington

harrington and louis oost for me... might as well stay long with the odds.
Louis has had a 4th and 5th already in august and i think is value at 28/30

my heart always has me putting something small on paddy.... and also good value at 50 IMO.

Some of the others may have one eye on the RC.

This tournament is usually a birdie fest so I would imagine someone who makes a lot of birdies is going to win it. For that reason I have got to go with Keegan Bradley, Charles Howell 3rd & for some reason I am going to go with Dustin Johnson, he just seems to be picking up form now after his lengthy lay off with injury.

Paddy will not feature this week but hopefully I am wrong.

Steve Stricker has a good record here aswell so might be worth a punt. And an honourable mention goes to TW as he won Arnolds Tournament this year, this is an Arnie course.

I hope so too. He's going to put four rounds together sooner or later - why not here?

I see pp are betting on the web.com tour this week,I only spotted it now.
I fancy Kevin Kisner @12/1,small win bet as they are very much bunched at the top.

Fancy a few outsiders to get involved.

Scott Stallings a Massachusetts native who won only a month or 2 ago!! He struggled a bit this year after a decentish year last year but is well capable of going very low.
Ben Crane also struggled ridiculously with injury. Claims to be fully fit now and is surely worth a chance at what is a massive price for a player of his quality.

Only problem is they had to delay the start of the tournament for him as he was still lining up his last putt from last week:D:D

Poulter is the third in that group, He is not one bit impressed based on his twitter comments anyway!

I have to admit i like Poulter but mentioning his dislike regarding playing partners before the comp is a no no big time imo,it's kinda like giving himself an excuse for playing bad before the comp.
He should be looking at it a different way,if he can play well with those 2 goons he can play well with anyone.
I play off 5 and i actually love playing with some high hcp'ers just so i can work on my patience, they have a pre conceived idea that low lads don't want to play with them but it really doesn't bother the majority of players.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,733 ✭✭✭SnowDrifts

I didnt see any comments by Poulter in twitter regarding his playing partners, can someone quote the said "twitter comments"?

The only thing i saw him mention was to Luke Donald - "That's a nice group you've got".

Yeah, prior to that he posted the following.

"I've just seen my tee time for Friday. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha..."

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,733 ✭✭✭SnowDrifts

Oh ok. Probably not the best idea to tweet that but you gotta feel bad for him. I know I would not have the patience to play with players who are so ridiculously slow.

Big Ben had a lovely 7 on the opening Par 4:D.Might speed him up a bit.

Their placings in the fed ex standings decide who they will play with.

where did i say he had a terrible year ? 3 wins is fantastic year for most golfers. It's been noticed by most that his recent closing rounds at the weekend have been terrible. There's no need to be smart about it.

you can't expect him to close every tournament out ;)

Awesome stuff from Tiger. Donald also well placed at -4.

Up and down stuff from Harrington but -1 is something to build on for tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,086 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

24 putts from McIlory, lurking with intent at -6.

His putting has been top notch the last couple of months and that was the only area of concern for a long time. Ominous!

Rory going well today ... -6 thru 14. Despite bogies on his 11th and 12th holes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,086 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

Rory had another 65 to get to -12. Early days but projected No 1 in the FedEx cup.

    Rory Tops. Tiger one back.

Harrington and GMac both make the cut on the mark, +2.

Top 70 go through to the BMW next week. PH needs to put two good rounds together to climb back up the rankings in order to give himself a chance at making the tour championship in a few weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,830 ✭✭✭abff

It's going to have to be next week. Even a really good round tomorrow will only get him into the top 50 or 60.

Harro +6 and out of the top 70 as it stands. Looeyes(Thanks Feherty:rolleyes:) on fire,7 under trough 8!!!

McIlroy doing fine, just needs to hang in there while Louis is having a dream round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,821 ✭✭✭blockic

See Schwartzel's 4 putt there from about 4 feet, madness! His head just completely went.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Wow. Anyone just see that meltdown from Schwatrzel on the 18th? He had a putt of about 3 ft for birdie, it lips out, he then lips out the par putt of the same distance, barely waits for the ball to finish before hitting the bogey putt and the same result. He then knocks in for double bogey.

Thats about 3 or 4 times on twitter now that Poulter has said he HATES this course. I'm sure the tournament organisers are pleased with him. Obviously a player can dislike a course, but to be so vocal and arrogant about it....well, thats IJP for you.

I have to say I also thought it was highly unprofessional. Maybe say after the event that the course doesn't suit you, then fine, but to be so strong as to say you hate is ott.

Bad form alright. So who do you think will take it tonight? it's hard to look past louis with how well he is playing

Think Rory will win, he did well to post -16, he is only 3 back and when he's on, he is capable of shooting -7/-8. Winning score should be around -22 I would think.

He has a great chance alright if he brings the game he had the first 2 days with him. Putting was a bit off yesterday compared to his recent high standards!

Great that it's on a monday too, something to watch for the evening!

I think McIlroy will come through, yesterday was a special round from Oozthuizen, don't think he will come close to repeating it.

Tiger was saying in his post round interview that in present conditions a real low score was out there. Therefore it's possible someone will come out of the pack, don't rule out Dustin Johnson.

Surely Oosthuizen (and Bradley) is enough proof?? I agree it's hard to follow up such a great round, Noh did something similar on Friday and fell away badly. I see McIlroy having another solid mid-60 round and pipping Oosthuizen by a shot.
