    Hey,

Sorry if this is quite long winded, but bare with me.

So My Dad had his gall bladder removed a few years back, because of gallstones and the pain with them.

He also had a triple heart bypass 10 years ago, he has ttpe 2 diabetes and is on 14 tablets a day for various things (cholestrol/bp)

Thats a bit of background info..

Since he has had the op to remove his gall bladder these are the only food he can eat

    -Potatoes/carrotts/peas/brownbread/flora/sliced ham (from Aldi)

and thats it, he may eat a small bite of something else but basically EVERYthing other then those foods listed give him severd indigestion and he loses the ability to pass wind in any form.

He has been to a doctor and all that and they say just stick to that diet and they prescribe Gavascon etc

But serosoulty anyone can see it is not right just to live on these foods, a plant based (vegan) diet would no doubt help him, but thats for another day as untile he can eat fruit/veg or anything... its kinda pointless as he wouldnt eevn try it for fear of messing the system up.

has anyone else who has had their removed had to live on such a restricted diet?
He has been told by the health shop that something called Galaxar (dont know proper name/spelling of it) could be taken to replace the enzymes lost and lack of bile in his system.

he is also giving up smoking soon so hopefully that will help too.

Please dont close the thread (unless of course you really feel that it should be) I'm really just looking for feedback and experiences from other people.

    Thanks.

I was reading about the gall bladder earlier today. I wouldn't agree that a plant based(vegan) diet would be the best however it maybe better than now.
Some things that I read earlier were to eat short and medium chain fatty acids rather than long chain as they'll be easier to break down. Flora should be a no go area for anyone, I call it chemical spread.
Then there's supplementing with bile salts and digestive enzymes(lipase) the name Galaxar might be a brand name.

I saw this blog a few days ago, the guy's had his gall bladder removed.

    Okay Thank you :)

Well Personally as I am a vegan I always think a plant based diet is healthiest but obviosuly people have divided opinions on that and thats fine, the reason I think it would be as a vegan diet is very very low in cholestrol which would be good for him, i agree about flora and even those flora/probiotis plant drinks because they have dairy in them which undoes any good work that plant sterols are doing.

and then meat is not good either but as I said, thats just my opinion.

I will check that blog out for sure, I think you could be right about the galaxar just being a brand name, bile salts and the lipase are 2 other things that was mentioned.

I'd disagree with you on the low cholesterol for heart health too! but with the flora drinks I know my father has gotten those in the past and the dairy isn't the biggest problem in there, they have glucose fructose syrup aka high-fructose corn syrup, when I saw that on the side of the packet my jaw dropped.

I might be wrong in this part but I think a lot if not all the bile salts come from animals, I could easily be wrong on that one I don't know that much about gall bladder stuff.

Coconut oil doesn't need bile to be digested, and it's actually good for cholesterol.

Any reason he can only eat ham from Aldi as a protein? It's so processed and he'd be better off eating fresh meat. White fish is very gentle on the digestion.

Avoid the flora, it's incredibly processed and if you believe the latest research, more likely to cause heart disease than prevent it.
