Best way to use a cross trainer?

    I generally spend 20 minutes on a cross trainer with max resistance and average around 90 strides a minute. Is it better to vary resistance (Thus increasing your strides per minute ratio) or keep a steady number of strides at a high resistance like I'm doing?
