I am thinking of trying Crossfit. I am totally unfit

I have lost a lot of weight and want to get strong and fit - is Crossfit a mad thing to do - or should I start with something easier?

Also I have read that some crossfit places are really not very good - does that apply here in Ireland or how can I evaluate the one nearest me?

    Thanks

    Hi there,

Lucky I stopped by boards.ie today. I'm involved in CrossFit Ireland (www.crossfit.ie) based in Sandyford. We've been open in our location for 2.5 years and we'd be delighted to offer you a trial so we can answer any questions you have.

Most CrossFit gyms (Ronin CrossFit in Fairview, CF North Dublin in Malahide, CF Dublin in Blackrock) will offer you a trial so you can pick the place that you prefer.

Mods - hope this is okay,
    Colm

It is yes, thanks. And it was the one I was thinking of. I have been trying to contact them to ask a few questions but there is no telephone number on the website and they don't reply to the email address they give.

I just wondered if there were any independent reviews anywhere as I have read a load of stuff about some Crossfits not being as good as others and as I haven't a clue about this kind of stuff, I wanted a review before I drive 20 miles out of my way. (Broke! :() The bad reviews have been of ones in the States so I am not suggesting it is not good, I just wondered how to find out.

Membership of a crossfit affiliate can be quite expensive.
Read the stickies and threads. Plenty of good ideas and information in there to get started for free. Everything from Couch to 5K to bodyweight exercises.

Thank you. I have actually read the stickies and am aware that it is expensive, I just thought it would be better to be taught how to do it properly before I attempted to do it myself. I am nevous of hurting myself. But thanks for your advice.:)

Cool, well Ger McAuliffe is the guy to talk to, you can contact him through the CF Mallow facebook page if the web email isn't being answered.

with the right gym\box this is an excellent way to train. You will be though how to lift and move with good form and the group atmosphere will keep you motivated. There are several strength and conditioning gyms around that work in a very similar way and are just as good but cheaper.
