The first leg of the fed ex playoffs kicks off at the notorious Bethpage Black course in New York.

Harrington (60), McDowell (26) & McIlroy (2) carry Irish hopes in the tournament. The top 125 players in the fed ex standings tee it up so the quality of the field is assured. The top 100 in the rankings will progress to the Deutsche Bank championship next week.

My selection for this week is Adam Scott e/w @ 25/1 with Bet365.

Last weeks winner Garcia is going well as is McIlroy and Harrington. I think Harrington's motivation will be strong and he will have a point to prove this week even more so with Garcia saying what he did regarding his Ryder Cup chances. I'm looking forward to seeing the Pro's hitting long irons into greens this week at one of the most difficult courses in America. I also fancy Jason Day to start making a comeback in the next few weeks!

Harrington going well, -3 and one off the lead after 12.

KJ with an eagle to go to 5 under

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,082 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

Harrington birdie to get to -4 after 13.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭AloKildare

Just birdied 13, now -4 and T2. Going by shot tracker he seems to have mastered the putting, holing pretty much everything he has a sniff at.

    4 in a row now, -5 after 14.

    Putter on fire -5 T1

Another on 14th, It's all about putting isn't it.

Socring pretty decent, over half of those on the course under par.

Garcia and Mcilroy both showing up well again!

Is there a half way cut in this or is it like the WGC events?

An 80 for Poulter would be awful:p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,082 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

    Great going by Harrington.

It's a standard event, half way cut, I believe.

Another birdie for Paddy -6 now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭AloKildare

Yet another birdie -6 T1, brilliant putting!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,082 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

Harrington should be guaranteed to make the cut now.

    Another on 17!!! What a run -7.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭AloKildare

    Yet another birdie, unreal

 relax..great round but Harrington has done this before, only to fade on the weekend. Remember the 61 on the PGA tour earlier this year in his opening round.

    Brilliant. Nothing won yet, though.

Paddy will know that better than anyone, shot something like 11 under earlier this year and didn't really stay in contention. I think the Ryder Cup factor is at play here though

    EDIT: Beat me to it

Sure he had a bogey on the 3rd today....

(Thread was missing a bit of begrudgery :):o )

It's a shame we can't watch this live. Alot of the top players will be done before sky's (not their fault- american tv) coverage starts. Would have been some back 9 of Paddy's to watch... -6 through 7 holes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

    Round of 64. Good shooting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭big_drive

Talk about making the ryder cup picks interesting! Haha!

I reckon if he finishes top 3 Olly will come under big pressure to pick him.

I said after uspga that I feel something big is close for Harrington. Maybe this week is it

You can watch Mcilroy & Woods live on PGAtour.com (they have 2 holes to go). Should be some other marquee group later.

29 on the back 9 at Bethpage black is very impressive

A good first week would be a great step towards making this years tour championship :)

Plenty golf to played yet though

Steady start by Tiger !! It's great to have him at least back in the mix competing every week even if he's nowhere near his best.

If both players continue playing as they did in the first round, there's every chance Harrington and Garcia could be paired together at some stage over the weekend. Spicy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Good scoring conditions seem to be around again today judging by the early starters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Singh showing all his pedigree on this course with another good round today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 484 ✭✭AldilaMan

Harrington having a mare. 4 over after 6 back to -3 and 23rd place

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

From overnight leader to 6 off the pace. Horror show but not surprising.

Why is it that people can't resist having a dig at Padraig? Drives me mad.

"McIlroy, no wonder he can't get the ball in the hole because he was whacking tennis balls up the tunnel of the stadium"

Some would say that is a metaphor for lobbing it into Wozniacki.

It's not surprising. He has plenty of previous in this situation this season.

Put the green jersey down and watch a bit more golf.

Yes, I heard that and I wondered if it was intended as a double entendre.

i think eldrick will ditch his caddy soon for a hospital

Nice to see Watney playing so well, a guy I like to watch. He'll take the lead in to the weekend.

Garcia continuing his good form and Woods and Johnson just a few shots back. A good weekend ahead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,185 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

I think Woods is injured . Maybe that bunker shot at the open .

Listen, the problem here is people being over protective of PH,he's right,it wasn't surprising, that doesn't mean he's happy PH played bad tonight.

All the better for you I suppose because Harrington dropped a few shots.

yes maybe that, but it is not too often we have no tricolour on the team. i'm being genuine . it is a weak inexperienced team . we need paddy in the locker room . without him we will lose . but at this stage who cares about Europe .
