I seem to be in the minority when I say Thor was by far my least favourite of the lead up films to The Avengers.

Here's hoping this isn't as cheesy as the first :)

I loved Thor, pity Branagh isn't returning, and I don't particularly like Eccleston as an actor, but looking forward to this, Avengers is basically a sequel to Thor anyway given how much of it revolves around Loki.

    Natalie Portman
    This is all I need.

Im not into comic book films, they're more lads films I think but I actually liked this, of course the fact that Chris Hemsworth is in it, helps

Like most of the related Avenger movies, I enjoyed the first Thor film although I always thought that the character was a stupid superhero ("pfftt...what kind of weapon is a hammer?") - having said that I was never into any superheo comics etc.. so I've learned a lot over the past few years.

Hemsworth is very good in the role and if it helps in getting a good solid story for Avengers 2 - then knock yourself out!

Thor was one of those movies I wasn't expecting much from. As above, "Hammer WTF?", not to mention the madkap setting of it all. So I was pretty damn well impressed with Thor's first movie outing. Hopefully they can build on the first film and up the anti a bit.

I was curious about the first one because Branagh was such an odd and interesting choice. He brought a lot of weight to a story with a lot of fantastical elements, and I'm disappointed they couldn't hang onto him for a sequel. They've retained a good cast - Hemsworth in particular looks a huge star in the making - but I'm still not confident that lightning will strike twice.

(It's ante, by the way. Weird word; comes out of card games, I think.)

I Liked the first one. I felt it had the most humour from any of the avenger stable of films

Liked the first as well. I think it benefits from being partly set on another world, making it feel more high fantasy and less superhero-like, and ergo less familiar and jaded. Hope the sequel is just as fresh.

Going a little off topic here, but are there any Thor comic book fans out there? I remember as a kid reading a Marvel annual from the 60s where Thor had a human alter ego - a crippled doctor if memory serves?? Did they just decide to make that non-canon in the comics, or was it just omitted from the movie?

When Natalie Portman lies and says he's a doctor or something in the first film the name she gives them is the name of the alter ego in the comics, was a little nod to it. There may even have been a name tag if memory serves.

Haven't read much Thor stuff but I remember the doctor alter ego too, in The Incredible Hulk TV movie he shows up in (along with Daredevil) they had it too. Not sure if or when they stopeed doing that, I know it wasn't the case in THe Ultimates where Thor was an environmental activist and everyone just thought he was completely delusional about being a god.

Sick to heaven of these neverending comic book movies but Chris Hemsworth is always excellent in whatever he's in (Home and Away excepted) and Thor was better than expected so I'm kind of looking forward to this.

Has anyone read this interesting article about why Loki actually won at the end of Avengers? It'd be brilliant to see whether this is what will happen in Thor 2, or will it be left for the Avengers 2.

Thats a pretty good article and it should make for some very good movies for phase 2 of the Marvel Universe. I for one can't wait :D

I do believe Kat Dennings is returning for the sequel also :)

nice one, i thought it was gonna be based away from earth, if it is itll be interesting to see how they get portman dennings and skarsgard off earth, maybe paying thor a visit,

so Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 next year and Captain America 2 and (hopefully)
a ruffalo Hulk film in 2014 and Avengers 2 in 2015, and maybe a S.H.I.E.L.D film in between or Black Widow film or a Nick Fury film:D:D

i wonder if max will bring caroline:p

S.h.i.e.l.d would make a good movie. It's good in the ultimate spider man

Another addition to Thor 2,Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje( Mr Eko) has joined the cast of THOR, reports The Hollywood Reporter, as the most powerful of the Dark Elves, who is coerced into fighting the God of Thunder by Malekith (Christopher Eccleston)

    Loved Thor to be honest..

.. outside of Iron Man, my favourite of the lead-up movies.

    Looking forward to more.

I quite liked the first film, but I hope they keep Thor's 4 friends participation to a minimum. They were awful characters.

I don't know about the others but I do know the actor who played Fandral [the blonde one with the goatee] has been replaced by Zachary Levi so that should be an improvement.

finally they released the film version of this, its different on the soundtrack

Can't remember where I read it, but I think Levi was supposed to play Fandral in the first movie too, but couldn't because of a scheduling change or something like that?

Yeah he was meant to play him first but i think it was either work on chuck, theatre work or Tangled that caused him to not be able to take it

Now its the other way around in that the guy who did play him in the first movie has scheduling conflicts, so Levi was brought in.

If they dont it raises the issue that has come up before. If its on earth , what are the other Avengers doing while Thor is figthing enemies?

Same goes for the others that have their own movies too.:)

I'd imagine they'll all have cameos in each others movies from now on, I wouldnt be surprised to see Banner turn up in Iron Man 3. I like this who Avengers universe thing, opens up the possibilities of the sequels to the individual movies.

Sure we've already had Hawkeye in Thor, albeit it was to introduce him but still

I'd imagine the earth bound bits will be jane still trying to find a way to get to thor and not much interaction between them at all

I doubt it, she'll have seen him on the news in New York. Could make for an awkward situation when they're reunited :P

    . Guess he's learning.

That looks great. Darker in tone to the first it seems and the Asgard stuff looks a lot more toned down from what little we see there. Looking forward to seeing the grudging alliance between him and Loki. I love Hiddleston as Loki.

I rewatched the first one last night and I still enjoyed it quite a bit, I still reckon its the best of the lead up films to the Avengers. I really hope they keep the theme music for this one, it's a great score.

Especially this, which annoyingly was different on the released soundtrack, hate when they do that and the film version is much superior

Not sure, maybe it was a temp score and they prefered it that way, or the sequence changed in editing and the version they had didnt fit. Must be annoying for composers when they've scored a sequence then its shortened or shots are moved and they have to rearrange the music so it fits what happening onscreen.

Even though it's only a short dialogue they show, Eccleston's voice sounds great as a villain. I think British actors in general sound good in that role, Cumberbatch etc.
