Thought Worthy in The Great Voltiguer tomorrow at 7/1, which I think is a great price. Finished 3/4's of a lenght 3rd to Thomas Chippendale last time out at Ascot on ground that I dont think he liked and likely to come back fresher with a 2 month break under his belt and with the Gosden/Buick partnership I fancy him to go very close.

I was thinking the same but I probably won't go near the race. Had a dream last night, St Nic and Frankel draw clear, Frankel travels best, is carried right but St Nic battles on to win by a shade over a length. Come on St Nic!!!

on his day with a good ride, St Nich will be the best he has faced so far and he does have a finishing kick (just not as quick as Joeseph thinks he has).

After this race well know a lot more, combined with the race last weekend in france..

It's still a poor turn out its a bit disappointing.

You fancy any bi prices ones tomorrow Aidan? Think Fratellino in the first at 20/1 should run well and deauville flyer in the last at 16/1

St.Nic has no chance hes a 12f horse, He'll have nowhere near enough speed for Frankel. The freak by 5l.

Im thinking along those same lines myself, I reckon Twice Over will be Frankels biggest danger and even at that it would be a major shock if he got to within a couple of lenghts to him.

What do you think of Energizer in the Great voltiguer stakes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 621 ✭✭✭dave3004

St Nic gets too far back in his races. Could find himself 10L behind Frankel when the pace gets injected.

I wonder will Queally hold up Frankel to ensure he gets the trip or run him as if hes been running 10f his whole career.

Either way, there are alot of better horses than St Nic over 10f. He's a 12f horse as someone said earlier.

Thought Worthy is defo worth another look. Going to have to watch a re-run of his 2nd to Thomas Chippendale.....Not sure about that race.

I know two of these aren't York but didn't want to start a new thread! No time for write ups today either!

    4.15 York Deauville Flyer 14/1
5.05 Linfield Lunar Deity 16/1 NB
5.50 Kempton Livias' Dream 18/1 NAP

I reckon robin hood and Windsor palace are going to make it a test from the start.frankel could race to prominently with the pace they set and that could give st nic a chance to close.

Energizer who was campaigned over 8f-9f in Germany and has always been there or there abouts (just touched off a head by Amaron over 8f who went on to run well in a Group 1 in France just beaten a 1/4 of a lenght) over a trip judging on breeding that would of been on the sharp side for him. His last run at Ascot was eye catching, stepped up to 10f and beat the very handy Stipulate nicely by 2 1/2L. Should improve further for the step up to 12f and eyecatching that Frankie Dettori is on board.

Very interesting runner but my only concern would be that the ground is on the fast side.

Using Betfair lay prices as fair for St Nic there could be a bit if juice in backing him each way at 11/2, 1/4 the odds. ala excelebration at Ascot

Win part pays 11/2 but Betfair lay price is 13.5. EV is -0.519

Place part pays 11/8 but Betfair lay price is 1.39. EV is +0.709

Overall EV is +0.19 on the each way bet

Robin hood will set the pace with Windsor palace and bullet train behind him.
I really am hoping frankel is at least put at full stretch. I'd hate to see him on a canter half a furlong out

Powers 2/1 Frankel to win by 7l or more. Stan James 11/10 to win by up to & including 6l

Coupled pays 1.235, 1.12/1.13 on Betfair.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

    Evs with Stan James now

200 max in Powers but Hills also go 2/1.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 713 ✭✭✭newuser89

I would be surprised if he won by more than 6 lengths so 11/10 looks a gd bet

afaik once it's over 5L they don't measure in halves.

Yea I taught that aswell but yesterday I saw a race at sligo with a 6 1/2 L
    winner.

maybe its different in Ireland or different over the jumps

    Frankel's SP?

I'm gonna guess he'll be 1.14 Betfair SP (possibly 1.15) but the industry SP will be 1/12

I've seen 14 1/2l winners, I think he might have been referring to the bookies

Easy peasy, Tom Queally barely had to squeezy.

baraca, don't worry they'll be along shortly ;)

Everyone else is running for place money - a moral victory would be to make Frankel work hard.

That was a strong pace and he cruised it, The Arc has to come into the agenda now he'd canter all over them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

    1/4 for the Arc

(off topic) is anyone else watching a rather pixelated Channel 4 SD picture?

Flat racing isnt my thing really, but that was stunning.

Backed Farhh each way and without, but didnt care whether he was getting up to beat St Nicholas Abbey from a furlong out.

I dont neccessarily think it was his best performance. It was another amazing performance in a sequence of amazing performances. If people want to crab the rating, fair enough, they are missing the absolute joy of the sport.

Would he have been caught in another 2f?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

I backed St Nic each way, was a +EV bet but didn't really think he'd beat the beast that is Frankel

Wonder will they still aim to bow out at Ascot or will they think to hell with it let's go for the Arc

Cant see them deviating from the plan, and especially in soft ground (not always) its a fools errand to do so just for the sake of racing fans. The horse owes no body nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,016 ✭✭✭Hulk Hands

I arbed Frankel last night, 7l or less 6/4 in lads, 7l or more 2/1 in WH. He won by exactly 7 :D

One of my biggest ever wins and all off a no risk bet

Connections have gone above and beyond duty to fans by giving him a second years racing. Fair play to them nobody should expect any more

I bet if you asked the horse, he would rather keep racing! God damn stupid animals!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 937 ✭✭✭swimming in a sea

yep i see the media are trying to say its full steam ahead for the Arc, I hope they can convince connections to change their minds and go for it.

But I just saw Khalid Abdullah on RUK and in his broken english said he did not think Frankel would get any further than 10f, mind you i can't agree with that after seeing him run today.

Frankel is a pure freak, there is no telling what he could do if trained to do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,998 ✭✭✭Shane732

Pffftt - it was a decent performance I suppose. :p

I still doubt he'd win the Champion Chase.

In all seriousness he's just amazing. It was a very strong pace and he just walked by them all.

Whatever he does nothing will get near him.

I'm still not convinced until he goes and wins at 1m 4f :D:D:D

    Not bad, SP's were:

    Frankel: Betfair 1.16 Industry 1/10
St Nic: Betfair 12.74, Industry 5/1

More of the same bull from the bookies, how can a horse drift from 1.12 to 1.16 on Betfair yet shorten on course FFS

The manner of how he won suggests not. He never had to break sweat and it certainly proved conclusively that he comfortably stays 10F, and hinted that he'd probably get 12F too if ridden patiently like he was today.

Can't see them running him in The Arc though.
