I'm graduating this year from the Level 8 Business course. Gives you a broad range business areas and you get a great understanding of it all. The lecturers are great. Like any course, if you put the work in, you will be rewarded.

With regards to the college, you will really enjoy it. Its small so you get to know everyone. There are a lot of great nights out. Go out during Freshers Week and get to know your new classmates and make new friends. Its a brilliant college and I hope you enjoy your time in NCI because I sure did

No it's not a full day, just few hours, then there are some activities after it for which you can stay or go.

Mostly it will be the same for everyone, but a bit differ for each faculty (business, computing etc..). For computing (which I am) we were brought around to rooms in which we were told we will spend most of our times (truly those rooms became like a 2nd home for me :D ), you will be introduced to some of your main lecturers (for computing it was programming lecturer named Frances, shes teaching programming for us), you will be brought around college, gym, shown around, students union and told about rules, activities and so on. On the day you will come to college for orientation day there will be a queue of people lined for a desk from which you will be directed to specific group, say B2, B3, etc.. So each group will be like 20 people (not whole course in 1 group). So technically your first friends/friend will be one of those 20 (that's the time when I met 3 people I am communicate a lot now with). It's really made up in a great way, easy.

The next friendlying session will be in your lecture, in our lecture I remember, whole our course (like 80 people) got tossed around room) then said turn around and talk to person about that and that, very nice and funny way to meet people :D

I can guarantee if you are sociable and not like "forever alone" meme you will know all your course and talk to them by the end of october.

have fun, if you have anymore questions just ask.

you're not the only one :L nervous as well, won't know anybody either. one of my friends is going to UCD and he starts on the 6th, so I guess NCI isn't the only college starting early.

Oh it must be just NCI and UCD that start early and I know Trinity starts late.
I'm hoping I'll speak to people in the queue if it's really silent I won't want to break the silence. Are you gonna go the the freshers events the week after? not sure what they will be though.

on freshers week, I might just sign up to a club/society or whatever :L doubt I'll be doing much else though cus a lot of the events take place in the evening (last year they did anyway) and I live down in Meath, so I doubt I'd be able to make it to any of them.

Oh I don't live too far but taxi fare is a bit expensive on my own. You might find a few others who live in meath and you could maybe go to maybe a Friday event in the evening or Wednesday if one is on. Is freshers from the 17th-21st just saw it on the facebook SU page. I'll probably just sign up to a few club/soc too not quite sure what yet? What you gonna sign up to?

I wonder what actually happens on the first orientation day , it looks like just loads of talks.
I'm going to try and speak to people on the day not sure what I'll say I'll talk as long as there isn't a awkward silence around there.

yeah, first orientation day is pretty much just talks and an introduction. on registration day, you're only in for an hour I think. Yeah, awkward silence Is what worries me the most :L what most people are doing on facebook is sending friend requests to people doing the same course. I got a couple of friend requests from people doing the computing course which I'm doing. makes it easier to get to know people beforehand, and a good way to strike up a conversation :)

I haven't found anybody doing my course yet , how'd do you find them?
I'll probably see you around as NCI is pretty small, even though I haven't go you on facebook :L . I'm not sure if I'll be in on registration day yet I have to see if I can get the money by that date might not have it until 8th-10th and I just register later. The Friday the one which is the whole day is the one I'm most nervous for.

NCI put up a status on their facebook page, just asking what courses people would be doing, I just said I was doing computing, and couple of people liked my comment who were also doing the same course and added me as a friend :L yeah, friday is the day I'm most nervous for too. In a group for the entire day...hope it won't be too awkward, lol.

People here are getting nervous over nothing.
Having just finished over 2 years in the NCI with a H.Dip and Postgrad under my belt theres a lot going for the place.
The induction is a general tgalk about facilities and policies and procedures.
If you need a laptop, its the time to get it configured to the college wifi network and get your access to moodle.

There will also be a slot about the policies on plagiarism. The college take it very seriously. Dont try pass off someone elses work as your own. The college have software that checks your work and they DO enforce the policy.

The Italian restaurant accross the road does the best coffee and a takeaway is cheaper than the college canteen.
7 wonders around the corner does a bagel and coffee special for €4.
Subway also does coffee for a euro. get your card from them and build up points.

College is a great time in a person life. Just remember that though you have lots of clubs to join, you're there to get a qualification that will prepare you for the real world. Don't waste it.

    Good Luck:D

Wow, it's mad seeing people post about starting the level 8 Business degree when I was posting the same thing 3 years ago! Time goes by so fast.

Starting a masters in Marketing in two weeks' time. Bricking it because I feel like this is a whole different ball game compared to a level 8 degree, but nonetheless I am prepared to accept the challenge :D

    Thanks :)

They didn't say anything, but just in case, all I'm bringing is maybe just a notepad with a pen.

Does the Registration Fee have to be paid by tomorrow? or by the 10th? I'm terrified that it has to be paid by tomorrow :(

It's by the 10th and then you have to pay extra if it's later than that. I'm not sure I'll have mine paid by my registration day on the 4th and you know you have to pay the gym fee €80 + €562.50 registration I tried to pay it online I couldn't pay it because I only had enough for the registration but not the gym fee included
