NFL on Sky Sports?

Does anyone know if Sky Sports have the NFL rights for the upcoming season?

I just assumed they had, but there's been no mention of it on their channels or website.

The NFLUK website states, "Sky Sports air live games at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. every Sunday night through the 2011 NFL season...."

I know the American TV rights were recently renegotiated, but have the UK and Ireland ones?

I have UPC, so I was going to sign up for Sky Sports HD, but if there's no NFL on, there'd be no point!

The Sky rights to the NFL ran out at the end of the last season, as far as I know. It was a 3 year contract signed in 2009. I haven't heard of any negotiations or new contracts being signed as yet.

Personally, I'd like to see ESPN and/or ESPN America get more coverage than just the MNF shows.

Me too, I have ESPN HD for free! Sky Sports HD is an extra €10 a month!

I have a feeling Premier Sports might get it if Sky don't increase their offer.

If nobody gets it, will that mean no blackouts on GamePass?

If that the case we wont be able to watch the games as ROI customers cant watch their games even though its on our Sky Boxes. They are a shambles of a channel though they cut away from games all the time to show something else. Google them and you will find half the sh1t they have done. It doesn't surprise me though considering they are run by some of the same guys who ran Setanta in the UK.

Id say the NFL have put it in their terms and conditions now just to cover their asses but that should be the case. It would seem pointless causing blackouts when no one is actually covering it or in competition with Gamepass.

Channel 4 will be continuing their coverage of the late games on Sunday night

wow, this is interesting....disaster for me if sky dont get it.

the red button thing where you see all the action is mega and I'd be gutted if I have to pay someone else to watch it.

If sky/espn don't get it, I think I will have to fork out the money for gamepass

    Sky will renew it.

    No doubt about it.

It's also a setback for those who watch games via non official interweb sites.

Many take their feeds from Sky and if a less popular broadcaster get the rights then the number of sites streaming from the UK/Eire will decrease.

I'd be shocked if Sky don't renew it. Popularity has been only increasing and I can't see the other channels being able to compete with that.

Sky will have it by the first game. No doubt about it. They're probably playing hardball with the NFL at the minute regarding price.

I cant imagine having to watch it online....

Thats what I have a giant lcd tv for. the ipad and computer generally are just for checking scores & stats whilst watching (simultaneously).

This could screw my sunday nights up royally!

You could always hook up a laptop to the TV, but yes sky not getting NFL would be a nightmare.

Computer with HD stream, hooked up to "giant lcd tv" = success!

Sky will take it guaranteed folks.
It's actually pretty popular on Sky

Hope Sky get it sorted. Was actually thinking about this the other day and thought it was strange that there was no but coverage. Fingers crossed anyway. Dodgy results aside of late, but 49ers all the way! :-)

Heard a rumour that Sky will be showing games from 9/9. ESPN America will show Cowboys @ Giants, but this has been unconfirmed.

Been checking the Sky TV Guide for the Thurs night game, but there's nothing there, only CFB. Might this be subject to schedule change I wonder??

It's on the Wednesday night :pac:

And I'd like to know how you can check Sky for 10 days time?

Would you chill. Sky are going to show it. They'll leave it until the very last minute as it'll bring the price down. It's pretty obvious. NFL need Sky to show it, Sky want to show it, but because Sky know NFL need it shown, they're playing hardball.

You can check ESPN listings on their website 10 days in advance, and beyond

Ring them up and tell you want to cancel as you can't afford it any more. Often they'll give you a reduced rate for a year or so. Of course sometimes they just say ''ok'' and then you have to backtrack or just accept it but then just subscribe to Flash Sports Streams for a year for 40 quid and you'll be much better off any way as you'll get to see more sport.

To be honest, I would if it was my own. But its the parents, wouldn't be able to do without sky and operate a laptop or something hooked up to the tv.

Been customers since sky was first in Ireland, always had the full package and the last few years have multiroom too. The odd time we have gotten half price multiroom but always had to ring up.

Ah, I know what you mean.

We were about to get the full package with multiroom etc installed a few years ago. Sky rep had been around, everything was ready to go but we asked for another day to decide if we definitely wanted it. Something happened that night which meant we couldn't afford it any more so had to decide not to get it. Best thing that ever happened in the long run as I found out about Flash Sports Streams and Live Online Footy a couple of weeks later and never looked back. Now downstairs has the English and Irish channels and I have the aforementioned sites on my laptop for my sport and can easily connect it to the TV if I want so everyone's happy. Frightening to think of how much I've saved over the years, and I actually get to pick and choose what teams I want to watch every week etc.

In fairness to Sky their product is very good. Their sports coverage and HD blows everything else out of the water, but it's just far too expensive.

Lads, i wont say to much and some know why, but if you were running a company why would you give something away for free/cheaper when someone will happily pay for it? Especially when what they want costs you (the company) money.

Sky like Vodafone, o2, UPC etc will only give you the good deals if you threaten their revenue stream.

If you are paying 70 a month and you threaten to cancel, they can give you something for 15 a month which protects the 70 a month revenue stream.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,370 ✭✭✭✭Son Of A Vidic

That new Sky offer comes as no surprise, I rang them last September to cancel everything and they bent over backwards giving me special offers. I ended up getting something similar to the current 6 month offer they have.

I was just going to stick with Gamepass this season, but I'll probably take the new Sky offer which takes me nicely past the Superbowl. Then I'll cancel the Sports package for the offseason.

Ha, i know the business reasons why they do it, still doesnt mean its not annoying to receive sweet FA for being a loyal customer for around 20 years.

Most businesses that have customers for tha long would like to try and please them but perhaps large corporations dont care as much. Ohwell, i get to enjoy sky player for free :)

Yeah I completely agree with you mate, I would do the exact same thing and fair play to them as they're making an absolute fortune. Their accounts are absolutely frightening when you see how much they make:

    http://corporate.sky.com/documents/pdf/latest_results/fy_press_release_1011

I don't watch much TV these days apart from (a lot of) sport so it's just as handy, and much cheaper, for me to use a streaming site.

Actually have a really good deal with eircom but could be slightly different as my dad was a business customer for I dont know how long and despite retirement they still give him business deals.

Anyway this is going off topic. And as for AIB, with all my millions, they do me great deals. I love sky, great product just expensive, ha. Have to have something to complain about

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 21,693 Mod ✭✭✭✭helimachoptor

Raoul/Paully I agree, if it wasnt for what i do i wouldnt pay for Sky, mainly because i watch very little soccer (prefer to play) and the ball i do watch are generally against my mates teams so im in the pub for it. With that and the times of NFL i couldnt justify it, in my previous life I would have spent Mondays watching highlights on NFL.com

Now I record the games that are on, watch them and then watch the highlights on monday evenings :)

It is expensive no doubt, but Sky Sports is a good service no doubt about it

Those are last years results paully, this years are better ;)
