Ladies strength training in Dublin

    Hi all...

Hoping someone can point me in the direction of a trainer/class/gym that is good for ladies strength training.

I'm in a run of the mill gym at the moment, and have been paying a PT to do 2 strength training sessions a week, and doing 2 extra session myself whilst continuing with my cardio. I've noticed a slight improvement in body shape over the past 10 weeks or so, but nothing major. We've gradually increased weights over the 10 weeks, but I feel like he's not keen to increase weights any more cos I'm a 'lady'!

For me, the enjoyment in lifting is seeing the progress, and the challenge of increasing the weight I'm lifting.

Can anyone recommend a trainer who can help me push myself harder?

Edit: I've lost c. 9.5 stone, and really want to be pushed HARD to finish the job!

    Hey,
It's great hearing about other ladies who like to lift!! For me the right training environment and a good trainer to help you set and achieve goals is REALLY important.

I would strongly recommend the PT Hanley from boards. He has set up his own personal training studio in North Dublin...not sure if that's close to you, but it'd be definitely worth the travel.

He knows his stuff and has high expectations for both female and male clients. He has offered me plenty of advice and coaching..(and still does:D) and even helped me get ready for a strength competition.

Here's a link to the FB page for the gym:

Or you could just PM him here

    Good Luck!
PS..when you do get yourself sorted with a trainer...ya might start up a log in the fitness logs section :) It's nice to see what other females do for their training!!

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm based in South Dublin, so would ideally like to find something a bit closer to home.

I've found my work outs getting a bit tedious, with me feeling a little underwhelmed by them. I want to avoid this, since I could find myself skipping training and I know my sessions aren't pushing me hard enough.

Would the Dun Laoghaire area suit you tatumkelly? I could recommend an excellent female PT who puts a great emphasis on weight training (she's a boxer/ fire fighter/ bit of a superwoman herself :pac:)

Shame you're so far away from Revolution Fitness!! Not to worry :)

On the south side, considering your goals, this place could be an AWESOME fit if a suitable location http://www.southdublinsc.ie/

Dun Laoghaire is a bit of a trek, I'd probably be faster getting to Revolution Fitness. Thanks for the suggestion.

What type of training programmes do those guys offer? Basically I'm doing 4/5 spinning sessions, 4 weights sessions p/w and walking about 20km at the weekends. The PT in the gym just isn't pushing me hard enough, I could do a session with him and then skip off to spinning without a second thought. I want someone ruthless who will really challenge me.

@ Hanley, I'd happily trek to Richmond Road if I thought I'd see the results. What do you offer?

On their website if you look under the "workouts" tab you will see what each level of class offers

fundamentals - beginners basically, where you can get comfortable with the compound movements

S&C - main difference here is that the conditioning would be at a tougher level than the fundamentals class

Strength - does what it says on the tin
