    some good offerings there.

eg: Thanksgiving to Chicago was €150 cheaper than Aer Lingus (booked a couple of months ago in their last "sale")

if you choose your flights you can oay 15euro 'time to think option' which allows u to keep the fare for a week before u have to pay if that helps. i see some of their other offers say they are until september 3rd but i dont see the dub san fran offer on their website

Not true... I have flown Delta a number of times and only once did they lose my luggage :P

I did get it back though, thankfully it was coming home and not going so it was no loss to be without it for a few days.

It has to be return to get those prices, one way is something like 800 otherwise.

I still can't find when this deal is expiring or any link to the deal announcement

my friend recently went from san fran to Vancouver return to visit a friend , was shocked at how dear the flights were compared to the likes of ryanair/easy jet.

If folks don't fancy adding on a stop-over in NY or elsewhere Stateside, it's a far easier option to connect through Ams Schipol imo. First flight to Amsterdam with Aer Lingus, then onto San Francisco with KLM. Your bags will be checked through from Dublin.

Schipol is a single terminal & though gates can be some distance apart, it's hassle-free and easily traversed. Connecting via a US airport involves queueing for Customs & Border Protection, collecting your baggage and then re-checking same for your onward flight. Depending on connection times, that can be stressful for many travellers.

That is the way I was thinking about doing it as going using the Air France deal comes in well over €1,000!!!

I heard that Jetblue are cheap but not sure if they do San Fran\Vancouver.....

You're right, brain freeze - if you pass CBP in Dublin, you're treated as a domestic passenger on arrival in the US. I do all my travel via LHR and AMS, so that Dublin benefit doesn't register high in my consciousness (despite the HUGE American flag in T2 :o).

If that's to San Fran, I would highly doubt you'd get lower than €400 at any time.

This is a great deal, looking at visiting San Fran, LA, Vegas next February and previous flights we had looked at were coming in around €700 pp!
Does anyone know is preferable to go via Amsterdam with Aer Lingus/KLM? It seems to be the shortest route at around 14.5 hrs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,822 ✭✭✭tipp86

Throw in the 25th of June for 2 weeks should see you ok.

You'll have to clear CBP procedures at your point of arrival in the US, as opposed to doing so at Dublin Airport. After a long flight, that can be a pain in the ass.

The plus side is you'd be flying KLM as opposed to Delta and Schipol is a nicer place to transit than Atlanta or JFK.

Hmm I see its possible to go out via Atlanta/New York and come back via Schiphol, might be our best bet. I've never had to go through US customs on the US side, is it really that bad or just takes a little longer?

Also I presume its not possible to get a few days stop over if you go via New York?

I had to go through US customs in JFK last year and it was a nightmare. No proper system in place at all, pure shambles compared to doing it in Dublin.
I could have just been unlucky.

Booked return flights to San Fran for next Feb €410, amazing value. Decided to go the Amsterdam route in the end with Aer Lingus/KLM, times suited us more and going through Atlanta/NY adds an extra 3/4 hours onto the journey because of the length of the layovers.

Anyone flown KLM before, are they any good? Flew with Delta to the US last year and they were okay, no personal tv and not a lot food given to us but comfortable enough.

great prices but where is everyone staying?.I've priced for 10 days in May and coming up at €800:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,822 ✭✭✭tipp86

Im doing 4 days in San Fran, 1 camping in Big Sur, 4 in LA, 4 in Vegas, 1 camping death valley and yosemite, 1 san fran airport.

San Francisco in general is pricey for accomodation. €800 seems a little bit to much. There is decent hotels for in and around €600. If ya want a little gamble you could get a great place by using pricelines bidding.

Check it out over here. The bidding is complicated if it's done correct but can work out excellent.

How did you do this? I can't find a multistop or way of leaving from a different airport. And if you select one way, the price is triple what it is for return.

    Try this for the multi-stop.

I'm going return SF to Dublin, via Amsterdam on way out and via LAX( Airbus A380) and Paris on way home but am going to skip the SF - LA flight as we are hoping to drive the coast road down to LA and try do Disney for a couple of days.
Flight from San Fran-la-paris-dublin was cheaper than just the la-paris-dublin fyi.

Anyone any good deals regarding car hire ???

Just so you're aware - if you don't show up for the first flight on your itinerary for the return trip (in this case, SFO-LAX), the airline will normally cancel the rest of the itinerary. So you may have trouble in trying to just check in at LAX.

For car hire, try www.carhire3000.ie - normally have good prices.

Big thanks for informing me of this as otherwise I would have just gone to LAX expecting to get on the plane.
Have e-mailed airfrance to see if I can miss connecting flight and still board 2nd flight and am waiting response.
Dont really mind if I fly from LAX or SFO i will just have to change some trips I was thinking of doing to other dates.

Looking at going with Budget but they have so many different sites that I will have to contact them direct to get best price.

And if anyone is looking for cheap car rental/hotels checkout priceline.com. I'm planning to bid on car rental and hotels through them. Here are some tips: http://budgettravel.about.com/cs/auctions/a/reveal_price.htm

And the groupon sites for the city for some money off things to do: http://www.groupon.com/san-francisco/all

Used Budget.com and got minivan(7 seater) for €430 for 14 days which I think is pretty good :)

Need 2 child seats as well and they were priced at €52 each for the rental which is half what some were charging.
