Things that "Annoy" you about Airsoft

I mean this in a light hearted way but what things about airsoft annoy you??

For me what drives me mad is no sooner that I have bought an aeg, pistol or item of clothing and all the accessories to go with it I am already looking into my next purchase. This really is down to me at the end of the day on what I buy or dont but the airsoft drug has firmly taken hold and I'm always looking for a new fix.

So I ask again what annoys you about our beloved debt inducing hobby?

The lack of a decent military surplus shop in Dublin. I just want to walk into a bricks-and-mortar shop somewhere I can get to by public transport and try on kit for size.

Case in point: I have no Gore-tex BDUs. I want some, but since I can't try them on, I've held off buying them online. Now with the Rionegro weekend coming up (and the forecast dire) I'll probably be playing in an old raincoat and hiking overtrousers.

Shipping being more than the price of the item. Not unique to airsoft, but it does drive me cracked. Oh and the biblically epic internet endurance quest sometimes required to find the correct replacement mag for a pistol.

tell me about it i got 6 mids for an aeg and the cost was nearly more than the gun itself!

For me, it has to be the window lickers. I'm all for a bit of escapism but the lads who make like they're hot **** because they've played a few games get a bit annoying. Nothing like being talked down to like you're 5 by a 14-year-old in overalls.

    That, and aggro.

bb's that find their way from the bag to the inside of your car, down the side of the seat, and where it's impossible to get them. Everytime I brake and I hear bb's rolling around, well annoying. I find them everywhere!

Mega whinge post so may get some TLDR replies :D
I have no doubt I might annoy or insult someone reading this
but its not personal. (If it was I'd name you :D )
Things that annoy me about airsoft.... there are more things
that annoy me than things that don't annoy me.

Being Honest I actually don't like "everything" that goes along with the actual participation of the game/sport and playing of it. I'm happy out just
collecting the guns and discussing and reading about how they work and perform without any involvement with skirmishing.

If I was to narrow down what exactly that annoy's me:

No.1 The Walter Mitty's (some types of people that play airsoft)

Geeky nerds with poor social skills who play computer games with much more
hours clocked than any sane average person and their sense of reality blurs with fantasy land. The type of person that confuses internet friends with real life friends.

The Type of Person who is in the "Reserve Defense Force" and some how thinks that they get training akin to the actual army. For some reason having fired a real gun a few times a year can give some types an inflated ego that somehow they know more than someone that's never fired a real gun. That ego transfers into games with lots of puffed chests and war stories and make
believe expertize. (WOW have I heard some amount of bull**** from these types) I was in the reserves for 6-7 years but I always felt grounded to reality and knew I was not getting any training to become some super soldier.

Also the amount of talk between games about feckin computer games.
Its Playstation this, xbox that, Call of duty/metal of Honer. The foothold
that that FPS shooters for Console game players has on airsoft is unreal.
While I LOVE computer games it annoys the hell out of me when it comes
to airsoft magazines having sections dedicated to games or when people
are comparing their Load outs to computer games.

All of the above Walter Mitty types ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Why cant you have a simple Game/Event/Sport/skirmish without
having to add fantasy elements/storylines/make believe. Less Drama
and more focus on airsoft skills.

    No.2 Everybody's an expert.
The sheer amount of conflicts online when it comes to airsoft that arise from clueless people trying to pretend they know more than they actually do
because they google a few pages before starting an technical argument.
Bull****ting will catch you out as your arch Nemesis is only a google search away. Seriously there are people with actual experience like guntechs who have been repairing and modding guns daily as part of their jobs and other people with vast experiences with tweaking then you have people that
just are blowing smoke and talking pure ****e. Its the ****e talkers that annoy me.

No.3 Dressing up & Load outs. (each to their own and I'll be hated for this)
I can say its NOT for me. while I've no issue with playing a game of airsoft
and having practical camouflage etc I really dont like the whole "LARPING" aspect of things where someone will dress up in full gear, with patches/extras and almost like a full uniform, with bells whistles and extra gear.

People that wear camel bladders and try and justify the use of them in Little ol Ireland I have to take with a pinch of salt. Sure they might be convenient but they are not essential, its not like your in a dessert and going to die of thirst or your going to get SOooooooo DE-hydrated that you cant make it to a resting zone in order for you to take a swig out of a bottle of water.
Again Reality vs fantasy. If you need water you can get it between games.
If you feel you need water that desperately during a simple game then WOW! you wimp.

People with tac vests that hold about a million magazines. Fer feck's sake
surely you dont need all that crap bolted onto your chest. Same goes for the types that carry a fake medic pack or have Glow Sticks during the day time.

Beret's I don't like when I see people wear these.

Irish Army DPM. It annoys me when I see photos online where sites
have allowed skirmishers turn up and play with Irish DPM when they should not be wearing it.

    No.4 Kids/Children.
I've no problem with Parents playing with their kids as long as they are present with them during a skirmish.

What I cant stand is when the Mammy or Daddy of little Johnny that's a child drops them off their SUV or BMW in the morning and collects them that evening. It more or less making the skirmish site a bloody creche!!!!!!
I've seen this when it comes to KIDS!! NOT Teenagers actual pre-teens.

I felt uncomfortable to see Men in their 30's/40's and sometimes 50's running around the place with unsupervised children with no parents present. If I was a parent I would never leave my kid unattended for a day out with strangers.

    No.5 Pot Metal/Monkey Metal/fake plastic wood.
I hate the feel of pot metal. Its crap, weak and small pieces can snap all to
easy and be difficult/impossible to solder back together. I long for more
actual steel bodies or even more full Au bodies. Same goes for plastic made to look like wood I HATE it.

    No.6 Photos and Videos.

Photos of Guns look nice Photos and video guides for techy stuff is great.

For some reason I've never felt Photos or Video's of Skirmish's or Players
    come out looking right.

I dislike photo's where people decide to post photo's of them aiming a gun
(even if its a an airosft gun thats unloaded) at peoples heads.

I dislike when I see people "pose for a photo" inside their house in their bathroom or bedroom in full load out. It just looks way over the top too nerdy and just wrong. GO OUTSIDE!!!!! or get your photo taken while you play!! not when stuck inside your house.

I dislike skirmish video footage. Despite people running about the place and
trying to execute text book tactics the sound of AEG just ruins everything for me when watching. Its an anti-climax. I don't think skirmish's video well
    without post production.

    No. 7 Price.
Since 2007 I've spent at least 30,000 Euro's on airsoft.
That's a lot of money I could have paid off my mortgage.

It sickens me to my stomach that some guns are soo much more
expensive than others purely because of the model.

A cheytac m200 intervention that looks like some drain pipes glued together or a fairly simple looking barrett sell for crazy prices yet something like an M60
or M249 sell for much less.

Some models of airsoft guns can be more expensive to purchase than
if you were to be able to purchase an actual Real De-activated gun or in some cases the actual real firearm itself. That's CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!

Irish Price. while I understand its more expensive for Irish retailers to
operate and import, pay overheads, pay staff, vat and make a profit but
on some occasions they can still take the piss when it comes to marking up prices on guns that they may be able to get cheaper than the average joe due to deals made with suppliers. In an ideal world you want to be able to
support your Irish Retailer and be able to purchase airsoft guns at ""around"" the same price as you could get them if you ordered them directly from abroad yourself.

Gas Price. Co2 ampules a little expensive in most shops.
134A(or its replacement) used to be always cheaper than green gas.
Now its more expensive than green gas.

No 8. That bullets character he really is an ass

"Snipers" who stand/kneel in wide open areas to engage, and b*tch about being nailed by someone with a pistol.
"Snipers" who bolt a scope onto an carbine with a hicap, and call it their "my sniper".
"Snipers" who call MP5k's "back-ups" or "sidearms".
"Snipers" who carry a bolt action rifle, assault rifle, two pistols, and a plastic bottle half full of spare ammo, then complain about being found.
    "Snipers" in woodland wearing ACU.
"Snipers" with an €800 rifle, dripping in Gucci, who b*tch about the guy with the haggard looking BAR10 being able to nail him for fun.
"Snipers" who b*tch about 1J limits.
"Snipers" who don't know the difference between FPS and Joules.
"Snipers" who bitch about AEG's having the same range, or better, than their bolt action.
    "Snipers".

I agree with 99% of Bullets points but I had to pick this one out as a specific thing that I too dislike seeing...if some fool wants to point a gun at their mates head in their back garden or such...I don't really care but when they pull a gun out of a bag at a site and wave it around the entire safezone with their finger on the trigger that pisses me right off.

ffs keep your finger off the trigger...I haven't skirmished in a good while now but I guarantee if I went this weekend I would see a lot of people playing with the trigger in the safe zone, it might have no mag, chamber cleared, safety on...whatever...but I can't see into the chamber or see your safety from across the room so keep your finger locked straight out across the trigger guard for the love of christ.

This really bothers me too. I cannot fathom what kind of parent would dump a child that young, totally unsupervised, anywhere for a whole day like that. Nevermind on a site for a sport as physically rough as this one, where they're going to be playing among and against grown ass adults. It boggles the mind.

  • Registered Users Posts: 36,751 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

    Ok who's been poking bullets.

Leaving kids on a site unacompanied is insane never mind the sport being roughish seriously id be extremely worried about unvetted adults being around said children ,as a parent I'm shocked a first on here

I was pretty shocked too when I first saw it, but I don't know if it's common to sites or just the one I have in mind. I can't think of any comparable situation where it would be considered acceptable to leave kids - young kids - on their own for hours at a time, in a very physical environment like that - even if we did live in a perfect world of only the best intentions.
