    Meteorological situation at 0300: A strengthening unstable east to southeast airflow develops over Ireland as a deepening depression of 978 hPa approaches from the south. The depression will track northwards close to the west coast this evening. Associated fronts will move northwards across the country.

    Forecast for coasts from Carnsore Pt to Roches Pt to Valentia
    Wind: East to southeast force 5 to 7, increasing force 7 or gale force 8 early this morning, increasing southeast gale force 8 or strong gale force 9 this afternoon and occasionally reaching storm force 10, becoming south to southwest this evening and decreasing force 7 or gale force 8 later tonight

    Forecast for coasts from Valentia to Erris Head to Fair Head
    Wind: Easterly force 5 or 6, increasing force 7 or gale force 8 this morning, becoming cyclonic variable south of Slyne Head for a time this evening, becoming south to southeast gale force 8 to strong gale force 9 early tonight, decreasing force 7 or gale force 8 overnight.

    Forecast for coasts from Fair Head to Howth Head to Carnsore Pt and for the Irish Sea
    Wind: Easterly force 4 or 5, increasing east to southeast force 7 or gale force 8 later this morning, becoming south to southeast towards evening and increasing gale force 8 or strong gale force 9, decreasing force 7 or gale force 8 tonight and decreasing southerly force 6 or 7 overnight

    Weather for all sea areas: Heavy rain spreading northwards this morning and afternoon. Heavy or thundery showers following

    Visibility for all sea areas: Good, decreasing moderate or poor in rain or showers

    Warning of heavy swell: Nil

    Outlook for a further 24 hours until 0600 Friday 17 August 2012: Strong to gale force southerly winds, strongest in the west, gradually decreasing moderate to fresh, but increasing strong again in the east. Scattered showers, heavy rain spreading from the south in the evening and night.
